2019 LHI journal of land, housing, and urban affairs Vol.10 No.3

In this study, the author suggests utilizing unsold and unused land as temporary commercial parking lots as a way to raise funds for active public transport use. In addition, reasonable parking fee scheme is suggested by estimating marginal parking fee and marginal parking distance for the commercial parking lots based on the CVM. The author conducts a survey to investigate citizens' opinion on utilizing unsold and unused land in the urban development project area as temporary commercial transport facilities such as parking lots. Based on survey outcome, travel behavior and requirements are analyzed and marginal parking fee and marginal parking distance are estimated through the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). The results are as follows: in the single-bounded dichotomous choice model, people are willing to pay 216 KRW for 165m in average for 10 minutes and their willingness to pay goes down against reaching distance to the parking lots from 365 KRW for 50m, 295 KRW for 100m, 173 KRW for 200m, and 51 KRW for 300m; in the double-bounded dichotomous choice model, people are willing to pay 285 KRW for 165m in average for 10 minutes and their willingness to pay goes down as well against reaching distance to the parking lots from 310 KRW for 50m, 297 KRW for 100m, 272 KRW for 200m and 248 KRW for 300m. It is clearly appeared that people's willingness to pay goes higher as distance to reach the parking lots goes shorter.

Postprandial hypoglycemic effect of mulberry leaf in Goto-Kakizaki rats and counterpart control Wistar rats

        Park, Ji-Min,Bong, Ha-Yoon,Jeong, Hye-In,Kim, Yeon-Kyoung,Kim, Ji-Yeon,Kwon, O-Ran The Korean Nutrition Society 2009 Nutrition Research and Practice Vol.2 No.3

Postprandial hypoglycemic effect of mulberry leaf (Morus alba L.) was compared in two animal models: Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rats, a spontaneous non-obese animal model for type II diabetes, and their counterpart control Wistar rats. First, the effect of a single oral administration of mulberry leaf aqueous extract (MLE) on postprandial glucose responses was determined using maltose or glucose as substrate. With maltose-loading, MLE reduced peak responses of blood glucose significantly in both GK and Wistar rats (P < 0.05), supporting the inhibition of $\alpha$-glucosidase by MLE in the small intestine. With glucose-loading, MLE also significantly reduced blood glucose concentrations, measured at 30 min, in both animal models (P < 0.01), proposing the inhibition of glucose transport by MLE. Next, dried mulberry leaf powder (MLP) was administered for 8 weeks by inclusion in the diet. By MLP administration, fasting blood glucose was significantly reduced at weeks 4 and 5 (P < 0.05), but then returned to values that were similar to those of the control at the end of experimental period in GK rats. Insulin, HOMA-IR, C-reactive protein, and triglycerides tended to be decreased by MLP treatment in GK rats. All other biochemical parameters were not changed by MLP administration in GK rats. Collectively, these findings support that MLE has significant postprandial hypoglycemic effect in both non-obese diabetic and healthy animals, which may be beneficial as food supplement to manage postprandial blood glucose. Inhibitions of glucose transport as well as $\alpha$-glucosidase in the small intestine were suggested as possible mechanisms related with the postprandial hypoglycemic effect of MLE.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Er3+-activated CdMoO4 phosphors were prepared by a traditional high-temperature solid-state method. The crystal structure, photoluminescence (PL) characteristics and performance in non-contact thermometry of as-prepared phosphors were studied in detail. Benefiting from the 3D network structure of CdMoO4 host, the desirable green emission of Er3+-based phosphors were observed. Especially, based on the thermally coupled energy levels, the obtained phosphors show enhanced emission intensity in high temperatures. When applied to the temperature sensor based on the fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR), the prepared CdMoO4:0.02Er3+ phosphor show an excellent sensitivity (0.875% K−1) at 483 K. Postdischarge growth assessment in very low birth weight infants

        Park, Joon-Sik,Han, Jungho,Shin, Jeong Eun,Lee, Soon Min,Eun, Ho Seon,Park, Min-Soo,Park, Kook-In,Namgung, Ran The Korean Pediatric Society 2017 Clinical and Experimental Pediatrics (CEP) Vol.60 No.3

Purpose: The goal of nutritional support for very-low-birth-weight (VLBW) infants from birth to term is to match the in utero growth rates; however, this is rarely achieved. Methods: We evaluated postdischarge growth patterns and growth failure in 81 Korean VLBW infants through a retrospective study. Weight and height were measured and calculated based on age percentile distribution every 3 months until age 24 months. Growth failure was defined as weight and height below the 10th percentile at 24 months. For the subgroup analysis, small-for-gestational age (SGA) and extremely low birth weight (ELBW) infants were evaluated. The growth patterns based on the Korean, World Health Organization (WHO), or Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) standard were serially compared over time. Results: At postconception age (PCA) 40 weeks, 47 (58%) and 45 infants (55%) showed growth failure in terms of weight and height, respectively. At PCA 24 months, 20 infants (24%) showed growth failure for weight and 14 (18%) for height. Growth failure rates were higher for the SGA infants than for the appropriate-weight-for-gestational age infants at PCA 24 months (P=0.045 for weight and P=0.038 for height). Growth failure rates were higher for the ELBW infants than for the non-ELBW infants at PCA 24 months (P<0.001 for weight and P=0.003 for height). Significant differences were found among the WHO, CDC, and Korean standards (P<0.001). Conclusion: Advancements in neonatal care have improved the catch-up growth of VLBW infants, but this is insufficient. Careful observation and aggressive interventions, especially in SGA and ELBW infants, are needed.

Lipopolysaccharide alleviates liver injury induced by thioacetamide in rats

( Jeong Ran Park ),( Eun Jeong Kim ),( Jung Won Yang ),( Han Byeol Lee ),( Seok Ho Hong ),( Seung Koo Lee ),( In Bum Seo ),( Se Min Ryu ),( Sung Joon Cho ),( Heung Myong Woo ),( Sung Min Park ),( Se R 한국예방수의학회 2013 예방수의학회지 Vol.37 No.3

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major of outer membrane of gram-negative bacteria and one of the most potent microbial initiators of inflammation. From the previous study showed that exposure to a low dose of LPS renders animals tolerant to a lethal dose of LPS, and protects against the toxicity of various chemicals. However, the effects of LPS treatment in thioacetamide (TA) - induced liver injury remain largely unknown. Liver injury caused by various toxic chemicals such as carbon tetrachloride, alcohol, dimethylnitrosamine. Here, we induced rat liver injury by intraperitoneal injection of TA, a representative hepatic fibrosis inducer. In this study, we investigated the effects of LPS in TA group, LPS group, LPS/TA group and vehicle control group on Sprague-Dawely rats (five rats for each group). All rats at the end of the experiment were sacrificed, and liver and serum were obtained. Serological analysis and hematoxylin and eosin staining showed that LPS/TA co-treatment was associated with decrease of aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine transaminase (ALT) and totalbilirubin and fibrosis than in TA-treated rats. RT-PCR showed that the levels of IL-6 and Cox2 mRNA were lower in the liver of LPS/TA-cotreated rats than in TA-treated rats. There were no significant differences ALT, ALP, AST, total-bilirubin, IL-6 and Cox2 between vehicle control and LPS-treated rats. These results imply that LPS/TA cotreatment partially alleviates the TA-induced liver injury of rats by reducing inflammatory response.

Crystal structure, electronic structure and photoluminescence properties of KLaMgWO6:Eu3+ phosphors

        Ran, Weiguang,Noh, Hyeon Mi,Moon, Byung Kee,Park, Sung Heum,Jeong, Jung Hyun,Kim, Jung Hwan,Liu, Guangzeng,Shi, Jinsheng Elsevier 2018 Journal of luminescence Vol.197 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A variety of Eu3+-activated KLaMgWO6 phosphors were synthesized by a traditional high temperature solid state reaction method in air atmosphere. By using geometric optimization and Rietveld analysis, the detailed structural properties were derived for the first time. The band structure, electronic distribution and phonon dispersion were calculated using the plane-wave density functional theory (DFT). Meanwhile, the optical band gap of KLaMgWO6 host was measured with an ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV–vis DRS). The charge transfer band (CTB) of KLaMgWO6:Eu3+ phosphors is situated at ultraviolet and near-ultraviolet region from 250 to 410 nm. Combined with theoretical calculations and experimental results, the detailed luminescence process is deduced. The phosphors show intense absorption in near ultraviolet-blue region and exhibit strong red emissions with CIE coordinates of (x = 0.6474, y = 0.3360) under 344 and 394 nm excitation. • On-treatment and off-treatment efficacy of entecavir in a real-life cohort of chronic hepatitis B patients

Park, Chung-Hwa,Kim, Hee Yeon,Lee, Sung Won,Song, Do Seon,Song, Myeong Jun,Kwon, Jung Hyun,You, Chan Ran,Jang, Jeong Won,Kim, Chang Wook,Choi, Sang Wook,Bae, Si Hyun,Choi, Jong Young,Yoon, Seung Kew Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved. 2016 European journal of gastroenterology & hepatology Vol.28 No.10

<P>Background and aimsEntecavir (ETV) is a potent nucleoside analogue with high genetic barrier to resistance. In this study, real-life clinical experiences in the long-term use of ETV and the durability of its off-treatment effectiveness were analyzed.Materials and methodsThis study was based on a large real-life cohort of 2240 chronic hepatitis B patients treated with ETV between January 2006 and December 2012 using a centralized electronic data repository.ResultsAmong 2240 patients, 804 patients were treatment naive and underwent ETV monotherapy. Their mean treatment duration was 712493 days, with a cumulative proportion of patients achieving HBV DNA less than 300copies/ml in 85.8, 95.7, and 97.6% at years 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Predictors for earlier virologic response were female sex, lower HBV DNA, higher alanine transaminase, lower platelet count, and HBeAg negativity at baseline. In patients who achieved virologic response and HBeAg loss, the cumulative relapse rate was 91.3% in 2 years after the cessation of treatment. During the treatment, 34 patients developed hepatocellular carcinoma, among whom 30 patients had cirrhosis before treatment initiation. ETV treatment showed efficient virologic response as the treatment duration was extended, but off-treatment efficacy was not durable, and the antiviral treatment showed some limitation in preventing hepatocellular carcinoma among liver cirrhosis patients, implying that treatment cessation should be taken into consideration more carefully.ConclusionThis study from a real-life cohort may provide data on treating chronic hepatitis B patients more close to everyday clinical practice.</P>

Approximate Controllability for Semilinear Neutral Differential Systems in Hilbert Spaces

        Jeong, Jin-Mun,Park, Ah-Ran,Son, Sang-Jin Department of Mathematics 2021 Kyungpook mathematical journal Vol.61 No.3

In this paper, we establish the existence of solutions and the approximate controllability for the semilinear neutral differential control system under natural assumptions such as the local Lipschitz continuity of nonlinear term. First, we deal with the regularity of solutions of the neutral control system using fractional powers of operators. We also consider the approximate controllability for the semilinear neutral control equation, with a control part in place of a forcing term, using conditions for the range of the controller without the inequality condition as in previous results.
