      • Inhibition of Microglia-Derived Oxidative Stress by Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor Protects Dopamine Neurons In Vivo from MPP <sup>+</sup> Neurotoxicity

        <P>We demonstrated that capsaicin (CAP), an agonist of transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1), inhibits microglia activation and microglia-derived oxidative stress in the substantia nigra (SN) of MPP<SUP>+</SUP>-lesioned rat. However, the detailed mechanisms how microglia-derived oxidative stress is regulated by CAP remain to be determined. Here we report that ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF) endogenously produced by CAP-activated astrocytes through TRPV1, but not microglia, inhibits microglial activation and microglia-derived oxidative stress, as assessed by OX-6 and OX-42 immunostaining and hydroethidine staining, respectively, resulting in neuroprotection. The significant increase in levels of CNTF receptor alpha (CNTFRα) expression was evident on microglia in the MPP<SUP>+</SUP>-lesioned rat SN and the observed beneficial effects of CNTF was abolished by treatment with CNTF receptor neutralizing antibody. It is therefore likely that CNTF can exert its effect via CNTFRα on microglia, which rescues dopamine neurons in the SN of MPP<SUP>+</SUP>-lesioned rats and ameliorates amphetamine-induced rotations. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed also a significantly increased expression of CNTFRα on microglia in the SN from human Parkinson’s disease patients compared with age-matched controls, indicating that these findings may have relevance to the disease. These data suggest that CNTF originated from TRPV1 activated astrocytes may be beneficial to treat neurodegenerative disease associated with neuro-inflammation such as Parkinson’s disease.</P>

      • Synthesis and Rust Preventing Properties of Dodecyl Succinate Derivatives Containing Triazole Groups

        <P>Green corrosion inhibitors, <I>n</I>-dodecyl succinate derivatives containing one (HSE) or two triazole groups (DSE), were prepared by three step reactions, that is, nucleophilic substitution reaction, click coupling reaction, and esterification reaction. The characterization results obtained from <SUP>1</SUP>H NMR, FT-IR, and elemental analysis indicated that the succinate derivatives were synthesized successfully. The rust preventing properties of the final products were also investigated using both ASTM D665 and weight loss methods. It was found that the strength of rust-preventing property due to the presence of succinate derivatives in paraffin oil was largely determined by the concentration of alkyl chains, not by their length or by the types of functional groups.</P>

        Spinal Cord Stimulation in the Treatment of Postherpetic Neuralgia in Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease: A Case Series and Review of the Literature

        Background: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is usually managed pharmacologically. It is not uncommon for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to suffer from PHN. It is difficult to prescribe a sufficient dose of anticonvulsants for intractable pain because of the decreased glomerular filtration rate. If the neural blockade and pulsed radiofrequency ablation provide only short-term amelioration of pain, spinal cord stimulation (SCS) with a low level of evidence may be used only as a last resort. This study was done to evaluate the efficacy of spinal cord stimulation in the treatment of PHN in patients with CKD. Methods: PHN patients with CKD who needed hemo-dialysis who received insufficient relief of pain over a VAS of 8 regardless of the neuropathic medications were eligible for SCS trial. The follow-up period was at least 2 years after permanent implantation. Results: Eleven patients received percutaneous SCS test trial from Jan 2003 to Dec 2007. Four patients had successfully received a permanent SCS implant with their pain being tolerable at a VAS score of less than 3 along with small doses of neuropathic medications. Conclusions: SCS was helpful in managing tolerable pain levels in some PHN patients with CKD along with tolerable neuropathic medications for over 2 years.

        Large Dose Dexmedetomidine in a Patient during Sedation for Invasive Oral Procedure

        Certain oral procedures require a sedated patient who is responsive to allow for the mouth opening and position change. Dexmedetomidine is a relatively selective alpha2-adrenoceptor agonist with sedative, analgesic, amnestic, and anesthetic-sparing effects. Large dose dexmedetomidine is suitable as a single agent for sedation and anxiolysis for plate removal in a patient with bilateral sagittal split osteotomy and Lefort 1 osteotomy with genioplasty.

        하드웨어의 성능 및 처리속도의 급속한 증가와 그래픽환경의 발전은 화려한 특수영상을 제공하고 있다. 특히, 입자시스템을 이용한 불꽃과 연기, 액체, 눈, 비, 먼지 등의 특수효과는 영화, 게임, 가상현실 등의 없어서는 안 될 중요한 구현효과이다. 그러나 이러한 특수효과 생성은 많은 비용과 제작시간이 소요된다. 본 논문에서는 저비용의 고품질로 각 콘텐츠에 다양한 형태의 입자 특수효과를 구현할 수 있는 입자시스템 라이브러리를 개발해 콘텐츠 산업발전에 기여하고자한다. This research results can be used in games or animation application programs that need special effects and can be used as education software in undergraduate or graduate courses. If we use this results effectively in application programs, we can expect no small ripple effect on growing entertainment industry because special effects enhance audience's interest in games, films, and amusements.

        그래프 데이터베이스를 활용한 정밀 도로지도 갱신 연구

        본 연구는 방대하고 복잡한 정밀 도로지도의 신속한 갱신을 수행하기 위하여 그래프 데이터베이스에 적용할 수 있는 정밀 도로지도 데이터 모델을 설계하고 이를 구현 및 검증하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위하여 국제 표준, 산업 표준, 기업 표준, 기관 표준인 기존 정밀 도로지도들을 분석하여 그 특징을 파악하고, 이를 토대로 그래프 데이터베이스에 적용할 수 있는 5개의 노드와 9개의 관계로 구성된 그래프 데이터베이스용 정밀 도로지도 데이터 모델을 설계하였다. 객체-관계형 데이터베이스와 그래프 데이터베이스에 해당 모델을 구현하여, 갱신 성능을 비교 및 분석하였다. 그 결과, 그래프 데이터베이스에서 최대 약 92ms까지 빠른 성능을 보였으며, 실시간 혹은 준・실시간에 가깝게 지도를 갱신할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 향후 연구에서는 경로 탐색과 같은 알고리즘을 그래프 데이터베이스에 적용하여 그 효용성을 분석하고 다른 공간 데이터에도 적용할 수 있는지 연구하고자 한다. The purpose of this study is designing data model of maps for highly automated driving(MHAD) which is suitable for graph database and verifying graph database for updating maps in real time or quasi real time. To this end, existing data models for MHAD that are international standard, industry standard, corporate standard and institutional standard were analyzed. Through this, the data model for graph database composed of five nodes and nine relations was designed. The data model implemented the object relational database and graph database. Also to check performance comparative analysis was conducted. As a result, the graph database showed faster performance up to about 92ms compared to the object relation database and suggested possibility of real time or quasi real time update. In future study, to analyze effectiveness of the graph database for the spatial field, applying an algorithm such as path finding and route planning to the graph database will be conducted.

        Adaptive Transmission Scheme for Mixed Multicast and Unicast Traffic in Cellular Systems

        <P>Wireless communication systems have been developed to support users' various requirements. Multicast and unicast transmission schemes are proposed for various types of services. The multicast transmission is known as an efficient method for group-data transmission. The data rate for multicast transmission depends on the instantaneous worst channel user. On the other hand, unicast transmission exploits wireless channel variation and achieves a multiuser diversity gain. In this paper, we evaluate and compare the system performance of multicast and unicast transmission schemes in terms of system capacity, worst average channel user's capacity, and outage probability for varying cell environments. We also propose a novel hybrid scheduling scheme for mixed multicast and unicast traffic services and compare the proposed scheme with the conventional scheme.</P>

        We searched for the literature of alopecia experiments for the systemic analysis on the research situations of alopecia experiments published in the journal of oriental medicine to understand the search trend in the area of hair and alopecia. prepare the basis for the in erests and basis on hair and alopecia in be oriental medicine area and above that, to support for the applications in the clinics through this. As a result. we found 26 literatures on the experiments about the alopecia treatment and hair growth and performed a systemic analysis on it to came to the following conclusions. 1. In the classification by pathologic model. the literatures on the experimen s inducing alopecia on C57BL/6N mice by animal hair clipper and depilatory took the biggest portion with 9.2.
