Educating Interpreters/Translators and International Broadcast Bureau Staff at NHK
Takahashi Hiroyuki 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 2022 한국외국어대학교 통번역연구소 학술대회 Vol.2022 No.01
This presenter, currently with Inspection Bureau of NHK in charge of inspecting NHK WORLD JAPAN's news programs, have held number of positions in international news broadcast at NHK including senior political commentator, newscaster and news commentary. This presenter has experience in using interpreter/translator in news programs while working as Editor in Chief of NEWSLINE, a news program at NHK WORLD JAPAN. He has been in the responsible position of writing news articles, as well as hiring interpreters in case of live events, such as news conference by the prime minister, or election results. He can also present his views from user perspective as to the qualities necessary to be a good interpreter/translator. Recently this presenter was instrumental in setting up a committee called Review Committee on Terminology comprised of experts in order to educate International Broadcast Bureau staff to transmit quality news programs in English. At NHK, as of yet there is no set career path for those who go to work for the International Broadcast Bureau. NHK, a public broadcaster hires its staff based on hiring system practiced by most major companies in Japan, that is, mass hiring of new college graduates and not on specific job descriptions. With the ever-changing world in terms of globalization and need to convey news out of Japan in English, educating International Broadcast Bureau staff in issues of translation in the broadcast is one that this presenter feels is quite urgent. With the endeavors at recently created Review Committee on Terminology, together with what is a continued endeavor at NHK Training Institute, the presentation will detail what are the needs and necessary issues in terms of translator (interpreter) at NHK International Broadcasting Bureau, as well as to outline the challenges ahead to train and secure interpreters/translators for NHK WORLD JAPAN from training perspective.

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine retail brand equity driver and equity components, and discuss the differentiation of retail branding strategy of three types of supermarket (national chain, local chain and specialty chain) especially in Japan. Design/methodology/approach -The empirical study is based on a sample of 3,062 customers usually using supermarket chain stores (total 58 chain stores) via Internet research household panel to develop this model, and using multiple-group structural equation modeling. Findings - First, store equity driver influence the retail brand equity than policy of corporate driver, and the most affect factor of store equity driver is a service and support. Second, Retail brand equity components were distinctiveness, emotional loyalty, experience value, and trustworthiness. Emotional loyalty and experience value influences the behavioral loyalty. Third, three types of supermarket have different equity drivers, and they influence the purchase behavior. Specialty chain has a strong store driver, which increases of price per unit. National chain and local chain has a strong covariance policy of corporate driver and store equity driver, which influences the retail brand equity. Originality/value - Understanding the retail brand equity in Japanese supermarkets. Retail brand equity is made from a holistic aggregation of some components, and equity driver is made from store attributes and corporate attributes, which are attribution level of operational activities. Consumer recognizes the store as a holistic brand but company wants to know how to increase the behavioral loyalty (purchase behavior), this retail brand equity model integrates the retail brand as holistic and attribution level approach follows retail-marketing activities.

Surgical procedures for atlantoaxial (C1–C2) fusion in young children are relatively uncommon. The purpose of this study was to report on a surgical treatment for a case of atlantoaxial instability caused by os-odontoideum in association with quadriparesis and respiratory paralysis in a 5-year-old girl. We present the patient’s history, physical examination, and radiographic findings, describe the surgical treatment and a five year follow-up, and provide a literature review. The instability was treated by halo immobilization, followed by C1–C2 transarticular screw fixation using a computed tomography-based navigation system. At the five year follow-up, the patient had made a complete recovery with solid union. The authors conclude that C1–2 transarticular screw fixation is technically possible as in a case of atlantoaxial instability in a five-year-old child.
Thermal rectification of asymmetrically-defective materials
Hiroyuki Hayashi,Yohei Ito,Koji Takahashi 대한기계학회 2011 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.25 No.1
We conducted numerical simulations of heat conduction in one-dimensional (1D) nonlinear lattices to reveal the mechanism of thermal rectification of asymmetrically-defective materials. A decreased spring constant simulates the defective lattice and the obtained temperature profile suggests a thermal resistance existing at the interface of two linked segments with different spring constants. Our numerical results suggest that the thermal rectification of two-segment system is dependent on the spring constant and temperature gradient. Introducing the estimated phonon band, most of the rectification mechanisms are clearly explained and performance limit as a thermal rectifier is found for the defective/pristine materials.
Over-expression of PPARα in obese mice adipose tissue improves insulin sensitivity
Takahashi, Haruya,Sanada, Kohei,Nagai, Hiroyuki,Li, Yongjia,Aoki, Yumeko,Ara, Takeshi,Seno, Shigeto,Matsuda, Hideo,Yu, Rina,Kawada, Teruo,Goto, Tsuyoshi Elsevier 2017 Biochemical and biophysical research communication Vol. No.
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα) is important in the regulation of lipid metabolism and expressed at high levels in the liver. Although PPARα is also expressed in adipose tissue, little is known about the relationship between its activation and the regulation of glucose metabolism. In this study, we developed adipose tissue specific PPARα over-expression (OE) mice. Metabolomics and insulin tolerance tests showed that OE induces branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) profile and improvement of insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, LC-MS and PCR analyses revealed that OE changes free fatty acid (FFA) profile and reduces obesity-induced inflammation. These findings suggested that PPARα activation in adipose tissue contributes to the improvement of glucose metabolism disorders via the enhancement of BCAA and FFA metabolism.</P>
