Sulforaphane protects against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity
Noh, Jung-Ran,Kim, Yong-Hoon,Hwang, Jung Hwan,Choi, Dong-Hee,Kim, Kyoung-Shim,Oh, Won-Keun,Lee, Chul-Ho Elsevier 2015 Food and chemical toxicology Vol.80 No.-

Abstract

Oxidative stress is closely associated with acetaminophen (APAP)-induced toxicity. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), an antioxidant defense enzyme, has been shown to protect against oxidant-induced tissue injury. This study investigated whether sulforaphane (SFN), as a HO-1 inducer, plays a protective role against APAP hepatotoxicity in vitro and in vivo. Pretreatment of primary hepatocyte with SFN induced nuclear factor E2-factor related factor (Nrf2) target gene expression, especially HO-1 mRNA and protein expression, and suppressed APAP-induced glutathione (GSH) depletion and lipid peroxidation, which eventually leads to hepatocyte cell death. A comparable effect was observed in mice treated with APAP. Mice were treated with 300 mg/kg APAP 30 min after SFN (5 mg/kg) administration and were then sacrificed after 6 h. APAP alone caused severe liver injuries as characterized by increased plasma AST and ALT levels, GSH depletion, apoptosis, and 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) formations. This APAP-induced liver damage was significantly attenuated by pretreatment with SFN. Furthermore, while hepatic reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were increased by APAP exposure, pretreatment with SFN completely blocked ROS formation. These results suggest that SFN plays a protective role against APAP-mediated hepatotoxicity through antioxidant effects mediated by HO-1 induction. SFN has preventive action in oxidative stress-mediated liver injury.

Highlights

SFN pretreatment increases the cell viability against APAP-induced toxicity.

SFN pretreatment protects depletion of cellular GSH after APAP treatment.

SFN pretreatment enhances Nrf2 target gene expression, especially HO-1 after APAP treatment.

SFN has protective effect against APAP overdose-induced liver injury in vivo model as well.

Egg consumption has been limited to avoid cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia, because the yolk contains high levels of cholesterol. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of the water-soluble component of egg-yolk on the growth efficiency, immune modulation, and changes in serum lipid levels in BALB/c mice. A total 5 wk old 120 BALB/c male mice were divided into 4 groups and were fed 0, 2, 10, and 20 mg/d water-soluble egg yolk extract (WSEYE) for 5 wk. Water-soluble egg yolk extract (WSEYE) uptake resulted in a significant reduction in daily weight gain and feed efficiency rate (FER). The mouse groups treated with 2 and 20 mg/d WSEYE showed a significant increase in populations of monocytes at the third wk and B-lymphocyte activity at the fifth wk. In addition, WSEYE uptake did not influence serum immunoglobulin E levels. In serum lipid-profile studies, treatment of WSEYE did not alter total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein levels; however, blood triglyceride levels were significantly diminished in mice treated with 2 mg/d at the third wk (p
Joule heating-induced sp2-restoration in graphene fibers
Noh, Sung Hyun,Eom, Wonsik,Lee, Won Jun,Park, Hun,Ambade, Swapnil B.,Kim, Sang Ouk,Han, Tae Hee Elsevier 2019 Carbon Vol.142 No.-

Abstract

Joule heating can instantaneously achieve high temperatures (>2000 °C) by applying electrical current on a resistive material. This ohmic heating by the passage of an electric current through a conducting domain may effectively heal the defective sites (i.e., vacancies, structural defects, and sp3 oxygen groups) of graphene oxide (GO) and revert them into sp2 domains. Indeed, the direction of electric field controls the texture of GO with preferential alignment, which significantly affects the transport properties along the fiber axis. Here we present electrical current-induced manipulation of resistive domain (i.e. Joule heating) as an effective healing method for the defect sites in GO fibers (GOFs). Systematic control of input current restores the sp2 lattice structures within fibers in a well-controlled manner. Structural evolution mechanism is proposed for multilayer stacked graphitic structures as well as graphene sheet plane under the reduction process. This defect-healing principle is rapid, environmentally benign and energy efficient, compared to other defect restoration methods, and yields tailored-aligned fibers with a high current-carrying capability and facile charge transport, which is potentially beneficial for power cables and other relevant applications.

Graphical abstract

Current-induced self-annealing on graphene fibers for the healing of defects in graphene fibers.

[DISPLAY OMISSION]

SYNTHESIS OF TERCYCLOPENTADIENYL DIMETALLIC COMPOUNDS
Noh, Sang-Gyun,Koh, Seung-Tae,Han, Won-Hee 동양대학교 1999 동양대학교 논문집 Vol.5 No.1
We synthesized tercyclopentadienyl dimetallic compounds which could be precursors of tercyclopentadienyl diheterotrimetallic complexes. The synthesis starts with taking dicyclopentadiene and sodium in ethylene glycol dimethyl ether(DME) to make cyclopentadienyl sodium-DME complex. Subsequent reaction of this complex with iodine and butyllithium furnished fulvalene dianion. The reaction of fulvalene(Fv) dianion and 3-chloro-2-cyclopentenone produces tercyclopentadienyl compounds. This mixture upon treatment with Ru3(CO)12 in DME gave tercyclopentadienyl dimetallic compounds.

In recent years, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Autonomous Vehicle Technology have actively studied around the world. In order to achieve the purpose of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) and Autonomous Vehicle Technology, it must be obtained accurate and reliable positioning. However, the problem of positioning in the urban area is a low position accuracy caused by the reduction of the number of visible satellites due to high buildings. In this paper, we analyzed the availability of precise positioning system in urban area are using GPS/BDS integrated system. For this study, GPS and BDS satellite signals were collected using two low-cost receivers in the open sky and a designed software based platform for precise positioning performance analysis. And we analyzed the precise positioning performance by changing the mask angle considering the urban area. From the results, it can be confirmed that the performance of precise positioning of GPS only and BDS only decrease in the environment where mask angle is $40^{\circ}$ to $45^{\circ}$, however, GPS/BDS integrated system maintains high performance of precise positioning.
Performance Analysis of BDSBAS and MSAS in Korea
Noh, Jae Hee,Lim, Deok Won,Lee, Ju Hyun,Jo, Gwang Hee,Lee, Sang Jeong 항법시스템학회 2020 Journal of Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Vol.9 No.3
China has deployed BDS along with the service of SBAS by 2020. Currently, the correction information for testing BDSBAS is provided through the BDS B1I signal. Many research on SBAS other than BDSBAS has been conducted in Korea. However, studies on BDSBAS are insufficient although Korea is included in both the coverage area of MSAS and BDSBAS. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously analyze the performance of MSAS and BDSBAS. In this paper, the performance of MSAS and BDSBAS in Korea, China, and Japan is analyzed in the aspect of positioning accuracy using the GNSS RINEX data provided by IGS. A Software platform is designed to analyze the performance of GPS-only, BDS-only, GPS/MSAS and BDS/BDSBAS. From the result, it can be concluded that the accuracy enhancement can be hardly seen when using the correction information of MSAS and BDSBAS in Korea
