Review : Does MSG Cause Adverse Clinical Effects?
( Denise C Hsu ),( Constance H Katelaris ) 대한천식 및 알레르기학회 ( 구 대한알레르기학회 ) 2008 천식 및 알레르기 Vol.28 No.4
Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a naturally occurring substance found in many foods. It is also widely used as a flavour enhancer. There have been many reports of adverse reactions associated with its ingestion. We searched for the available literature on MSG symptom complex, MSG induced asthma and MSG induced urticaria, and came to the conclusion that symptoms attributed to MSG are inconsistent and poorly reproducible. The scarcity of reports on adverse effects associated with MSG in Asian populations suggest that unfamiliarity and belief in adverse effects may play a role in perception of adverse reactions in Western populations.
