      • A design support system for making a novel and diverse interior plan suitable for a user impression

        The purpose of this study was to make a design support system that designs and recommends a novelty interior design suitable for a user’s interior impression. This study designed a system that has two-steps. In the first step, it makes many kinds of novel and diverse patterns by using expert knowledge of interior design. In the second step, it makes an individual’s model for estimating personal impression of interior design by using a machine learning method. Besides, it chooses the patterns suitable for a user’s impressions of the interior design by using the individual’s model. This study experimented with 14 subjects to evaluate whether the system could generate and select a modern and simple impression’s design pattern suitable for a user’s impression. Fourteen subjects answered a total of 294 design patterns using a six-point scale. They felt a simple and modern impression to 208 patterns and also, they felt novelty impression to 204 patterns. They also felt the unity of design from 247 patterns. The result showed that this system could offer users a novel interior design idea suitable for their impression.

        To transmit users`` intentions that vary with each person, intuitive and bi-directional interactions between users and a computer are necessary. We considered these interactions by dividing them into two spaces, physical space and informational space. Informational space supports human thinking process by arranging and visualizing much information. Physical space reproduces the real world where various restrictions exist to virtual space. From the viewpoint of three aspects - contents model, kansei model and context model - we defmed the style of the interaction between user and multimedia database. In this paper, for the purpose of examining the way to realize the interaction based on these models, we developed interior design coordination support system and garden coordination system, and then evaluated them.
