The umbilical cord (UC) is a platform for fetal nourishment and growth. The fetus, mother and placenta with UC form a triad, which contributes to pregnancy outcome. When pregnancy is complicated by a medical condition like hypertension, affects both maternal and fetal health. Being a fetal structure it can be used as a window to know the maternal dysfunctions and their impacts on fetal wellbeing. The present study is to explore the histomorphometric changes of the UC and its vessels involved in the development of hypertension during pregnancy. Sixty UCs were used and the following parameters, total UC area; total vessel area; jelly area; wall area, luminal area and wall thickness of umbilical arteries 1 and 2 and vein were studied using ImageJ software. From the results, the mean differences of above parameters of hypertensive UCs were found to be lesser than control and it was significantly higher in cases of severe preeclampsia (P≤0.05). From the present study, we conclude hypertensive cords and its vessels are associated with significant structural changes. Since it is a global health issue it is important to know the factors contributing it to diagnose and prevent.

This work reports the judicious screening of various ionic liquids for the extraction of pentachlorophenol (PCP) and dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) from aqueous solutions. COSMO-RS model was used for the prediction of selectivity of these compounds in aqueous medium at infinite dilution. Initial benchmarking studies were done by comparing experimental logarithmic octanol–water partition coefficient values (log KOW) with COSMO-RS predicted data on 13 poly chlorinated biphenyls (PCB’s)similar in structure to that of PCP and DDT. 1015 possible ILs were then used to determine the best extractant for the removal of these two EDCs from aqueous solution.

In this paper, we introduce the notion of $L$-fuzzy sublattice of a bounded lattice with truth values in a complete lattice satisfying the infinite meet distributive law and prove certain general properties of these, by observing that these form an algebraic fuzzy set system.

In this paper, we study the notion of prime $L$-fuzzy filter of a bounded distributive semilattice S with truth values in a frame $L$. A characterization theorem of prime (maximal) $L$-fuzzy filters of $S$ is established and, the set of all prime $L$-fuzzy filters of $S$ is topologized and the resulting space is discussed.

The CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein-alpha (CEBPA) is a transcriptional factor that plays a crucial role in the control of proliferation and differentiation of myeloid precursors. This gene was recognized as the target of genetic alterations and were associated with clinical complexity among AML. We here analyze the frequency and types of CEBPA mutations and polymorphisms in a de novo AML patients from South India and tried to find out associations of these variations with different clinical parameters and the prognostic significance in AML. Study was carried out in 248 de novo AML patients, cytogenetic analysis was performed from the bone marrow samples and was karyotyped. PCR-SSCP analysis and sequencing was performed for the detection of CEBPA gene variations. All the statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 17 (statistical package for social sciences) software. Pearson Chi-square test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and log rank tests were performed. CEBPA mutations were detected in 18% and CEBPA polymorphisms were detected in 18.9% of AML cases studied. Most of the mutations occured at the C terminal region. Polymorphisms were detected in both N and C terminal region. with most common being, c.584_589dup ACCCGC and c.690G>T. A significant association was not observed for the mutation and polymorphism with respect to clinical and laboratory parameters. Survival advantage was observed for the mutated cases compared to non mutated cases, especially for the normal karyotype groups. Polymorphisms has no effect on the survival pattern of AML patients. CEBPA mutation and polymorphisms were observed with similar frequency and was identified in all the FAB subtypes as well as in cytogenetic risk groups in our study population, but CEBPA mutations alone confer a prognostic value for NK AML patients.

microRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that execute regulation of gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Information on turmeric miRNAs is very rare. In the present study, we have identified 27 conserved and 40 non-conserved miRNA families by high-throughput Illumina sequencing and downstream in silico analysis. We could also identify 97 novel candidate miRNAs specific to turmeric. Selected miRNAs were validated by stem-loop RT-PCR and northern blotting. The targets were predicted for identified miRNAs and were found to be involved in plant growth and development, stress response and metabolism. Expression pattern of selected conserved miRNAs in response to drought stress was analyzed by stem-loop qRT-PCR. This is the first report on miRNA content of turmeric transcriptome, which might serve as a foundation for more future work on miRNA based gene regulation in this medicinally important spice crop.
Development of fontanelle and paranasal sinuses in the skull of prenatal buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)
Lakshmi, M. Santhi,Rao, T.S. Chandrasekhara,Rajalakshmi, K. The Korean Society of Veterinary Science 2013 大韓獸醫學會誌 Vol.53 No.2
The maxillary sinus appeared first among the sinuses of the skull at 92 days of prenatal stage. The early formation of frontal sinus was observed at 157 days in the cranial most part of the frontal bone while the early formation of palatine sinus was observed at 170 days. A total of five fontanelles were observed in prenatal skulls of buffalo. The largest and unpaired fontanelle was anterior fontanelle. The mastoid and sphenoidal fontanelle were paired. The ossification of anterior fontanelle was first observed at 164 days. All the fontanelles were ossified completely prenatally.
