The Maritime Dispute in Sino-Japanese Relations: Domestic Dimensions
( Mutsumi Hirano ) 경남대학교 극동문제연구소 2014 ASIAN PERSPECTIVE Vol.38 No.2
My aim in this article is to shed light on some domestic dimensions of the maritime dispute between China and Japan in the East China Sea, in particular those of the Japanese side. The domestic dimensions are important because many actors are involved and the dispute is multidimensional. We may need to set longer time frames in order to find exit strategies and at least mitigate the influence of this seemingly intractable dispute. I suggest mid- to long-term alternative approaches to resolving it.
Noninvasive Quality Estimation of Adherent Mammalian Cells for Transplantation
Mutsumi Takagi 한국생물공학회 2010 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.15 No.1
The noninvasive quality estimation of adherent mammalian cells for transplantation is reviewed. The quality and heterogeneity of cells should be estimated before transplantation because cultured cells are not homogeneous but heterogeneous. The estimation of cell quality should be performed noninvasively because most protocols of regenerative medicine are autologous cell system. The differentiation level and contamination of other cell lineage could be estimated by two-dimensional cell morphology analysis and tracking using a conventional phase contrast microscope. The noninvasive determination of the laser phase shift of a cell using a phase-shifting laser microscope, which might be more noninvasive, and more useful than the atomic force microscope and digital holographic microscope, was carried out to determine the three-dimensional cell morphology, and the estimation of the cell cycle phase of each adhesive cell and the mean proliferation activity of a cell population. Chemical analysis of the culture supernatant by conventional analytical methods such as ELISA was also useful to estimate the differentiation level of a cell population. Chemical analysis of cell membrane and intracellular components using a probe beam, an infrared beam, and Raman spectroscopy was useful for diagnosing the viability, apoptosis, and differentiation of each adhesive cell.
Investigation of simple electrochemical conditions for generation of ozonized water
Mutsumi Tanaka,김태일,김한주,박수길 한국전기화학회 2008 한국전기화학회지 Vol.11 No.3
An electrochemical generation of ozonized water was investigated by using β-PbO2 as an anode and tap water as an anolyte. According to the potentiometric ozone detection which utilizes potential differences arisen from a chemical reaction of ozone and iodide, increasing tendency of ozone concentration on electrolysis time could be observed to show the maximum value of 8 ppm at an electrolysis time of 10 min. Ozone could be generated promptly even at an electrolysis time of 10 sec., suggesting great advantages of this electrochemical process in terms of simplicity and readiness that might be applied directly to practical uses including medical and/ or food industries. Influences of electrolysis on the properties and surface conditions of a PbO2 electrode were also discussed from the results of cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffractometer
Efect of surrounding visual information on perceived distance of image presented on a display
Mutsumi Suganuma 한국디자인학회 2010 한국디자인학회 학술발표대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10
Portable display devices such as iPods/iPhones, mobile- phones with T.V. tuners, or portable game devices are becoming popular. When we see image/video with those devices, viewing circumstance is largely different from that of 'traditional' viewing circumstance. That is, the angle of the display surface against the ground (or wall) surface, and our body posture. We suspected that such difference of display surface and our body posture might affect our perception and recognition of the image shown on the display. Led by this motivation, we have been investigating the effect of new "viewing circumstance" on perception/recognition of image shown on portable display devices. In this study, we focused on the effect of misalignment of display surface and surface of the display surroundings (i.e. surface of wall), on recognition of distance of image. In the experiment, a panel with matrix texture printed was set behind the display device. According to the condition (aligned/misaligned conditions), the panel was set orthogonal to the ground surface, or slanted from orthogonal. Ponzo illusion figure was shown on the display, and the strength of visual illusion was measured for both conditions. We found smaller amount of visual illusion in misaligned condition, which suggests that the misalignment of the display surface and the wall surface resulted in distorting the distance of displayed image.
Investigation of Simple Electrochemical Conditions for Generation of Ozonized Water
Tanaka, Mutsumi,Kim, Han-Joo,Kim, Tae-Il,Park, Soo-Gil The Korean Electrochemical Society 2008 한국전기화학회지 Vol.11 No.3
An electrochemical generation of ozonized water was investigated by using ${\beta}-PbO_2$ as an anode and tap water as an anolyte. Influences of electrolysis on the properties and surface conditions of a $PbO_2$ electrode were also discussed from the results of cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffractometer.
