A Short Note on Inclusive and Exclusive Plurals in Korean

Michael Jonathan Mathew Barrie(Michael Jonathan Mathew Barrie ),Éric Mathieu(Éric Mathieu ) 한국생성문법학회 2023 생성문법연구 Vol.33 No.1

The aim of this short article is to give a comprehensive analysis of number in Korean, adding a novel observation about the interpretation of plurals in that language. Based on the new data, our proposal is that number is distributed along the nominal spine with different effects depending on the type of functional head (and semantic features) it is associated with. In particular, we propose that number in Korean is associated with two number projections, NumP1 and NumP2, (see Watanabe 2010 for Japanese, Vazquez Rojas Maldonado 2012 for Purépecha (isolate, tsz), Dali and Mathieu 2021 for Tunisian Arabic (Afro-Asiatic, aeb)). By shedding light on the distinction between inclusive and exclusive plurals in Korean and the relationship between definiteness and plurality, we contribute to the current debate related to the distribution of the Korean plural.

      • Modeling and Design of a Gripper for a Robotic Surgical System Integrating Force Sensing Capabilities in 4 DOF

        Mathieu Stephan,G. Rognini,A. Sengul,R. Beira,L. Santos-Carreras,H. Bleuler 제어로봇시스템학회 2010 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2010 No.10

This paper reports the design of a Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) gripper with four degrees of freedom force sensing capabilities. It will be used to provide force feedback during surgical interventions in which the surgeon will remotely manipulate surgical instruments through the use of a robotic arm directly inserted into the patient’ insufflated abdominal cavity. Suturing, dissection and ablation instruments will be attached on this 8 mm x 9 mm x 3mm MIS gripper. Finite Element Analysis is used to model the gripper and determine the deformation matrix coefficients. Gripping and XYZ Cartesian direction applied forces can be measured with a resolution of 0.1N for a maximum force of 10N. However a significant difference between the predicted values by the Finite Element model and those obtained in the characterization of the force sensor is found. This divergence is due to misalignments of the strain gages located on the blades of the gripper. Future work will be focused on reducing misalignment of force sensors as well as other error sources.

Influence of Gas Metal Arc Welding Parameters on the Bead Properties in Automatic Cladding

        Mathieu TERNER,Tsend-Ayush BAYARSAIKHAN,Hyun-Uk HONG,Je-Hyun LEE 대한용접·접합학회 2017 대한용접·접합학회지 Vol.35 No.1

Gas Metal Arc Welding is a widely used process in Industry due to its high productivity and potential to automation. The present study investigates the effects of the welding speed, arc voltage, welding current and shielding gas on the bead geometry for a low-carbon steel. The Response Surface Methodology (RSM) is used to choose an experimental design and perform test runs accordingly in order to produce mathematical models predicting the geometry, the hardness and the heat input of the bead as functions of the welding parameters. The direct and interaction effects of the four welding parameters are represented graphically and allow to determine an optimum set of welding parameters.

Innovative 3D-Manufacturing of Complex Ceramic Parts by Means of Commercial Digital Light Processing Apparatus

        Mathieu Terner 대한용접접합학회 2019 대한용접·접합학회지 Vol.37 No.4

Additive Manufacturing technologies have been acknowledged for years as tremendous processing routes for the production of parts with complex shape. While the economic Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology was initially restricted to the production of photopolymer materials, it has a great potential for the manufacture of ceramic and metallic parts, half way between direct prototyping and the conventional powder processing route. The method consists in preparing a powder-loaded photopolymer slurry by conventional ball milling, processing green composite parts by DLP and carrying a debinding and sintering heat treatment. The present report investigates the preparation of a suitable slurry and evaluate the printability by DLP. It was found that viscosity of the slurry significantly increased with increasing powder contents, particularly over 25 vol.%. A 28 vol.% Al2O3 powder containing green composite was successfully processed using a commercial DLP apparatus. However, higher loads of powder are required to allow for appropriate sintering, which suggests optimization of the slurry by addition of solvents and use of finer powder particles to reduce viscosity and enhance printability.

The Current State, Outcome and Vision of Additive Manufacturing

        Mathieu Terner 대한용접·접합학회 2015 대한용접·접합학회지 Vol.33 No.6

Additive Manufacturing defines the fabrication of objects by successive consolidation of materials, layer by layer, according to a three-dimensional design. The numerous technologies available today were recently standardized into seven categories based on the general method. Each technology has its own set of advantages and limitations. Though it very much depends on the field of application, major assets of additive manufacturing compared to conventional processing routes are the ability to readily offer complexity (in terms of intricate shape and customization) and significant reduction of waste. On the other hand, additive manufacturing often suffers of relatively low production rates. Anyhow, additive manufacturing technologies is being given outstanding attention. In particular, metal additive manufacturing emerges as of great significance in industries like aerospace, automotive and tooling. The trend progresses toward full production of high value finished products.

The Sociological Discourse on Human Rights

Mathieu Deflem,Stephen Chicoine 서울대학교 사회발전연구소 2011 Journal of Asian Sociology Vol.40 No.1

Since when, how, and why have sociologists discussed human rights in their work? In which forms of theoretical and empirical inquiry have such investigations been conducted, and what are some of their consequences for the praxis of sociology as well as for our understanding of human rights? We focus on the manner in which sociologists have conceptualized human rights and approached the topic from a number of analytical perspectives. In general, human rights have only recently begun to move sociologists in any noteworthy degree. This paper traces the difficult birth of a sociology of human rights relative to the place of the notion of rights in the sociology of law. This paper also ponders on the enthusiastic turn towards human rights in more recent times and criticizes some the reasons for this generous embrace of human rights. This critique is intended to enable rather than impede a truly sociological sociology of (human) rights.

Serotonin syndrome in a patient with chronic pain taking analgesic drugs mistaken for psychogenic nonepileptic seizure: a case report

( Mathieu Boudier-revéret ),( Min Cheol Chang ) 영남대학교 의과대학 2021 Yeungnam University Journal of Medicine Vol.38 No.4

Serotonin syndrome (SS) is a potentially life-threatening condition that is caused by the administration of drugs that increase serotonergic activity in the central nervous system. We report a case of serotonin syndrome in a patient with chronic pain who was taking analgesic drugs. A 36-year-old female with chronic pain in the lower back and right buttock area had been taking tramadol hydrochloride 187.5 mg, acetaminophen 325 mg, pregabalin 150 mg, duloxetine 60 mg, and triazolam 0.25 mg daily for several months. After amitriptyline 10 mg was added to achieve better pain control, the patient developed SS, which was mistaken for psychogenic nonepileptic seizure. However, her symptoms completely disappeared after discontinuation of the drugs that were thought to trigger SS and subsequent hydration with normal saline. Various drugs that can increase serotonergic activity are being widely prescribed for patients with chronic pain. Clinicians should be aware of the potential for the occurrence of SS when prescribing pain medications to patients with chronic pain.

Part tolerancing through multicale defect analysis

Mathieu Petitcuenot,Bernard Anselmetti 한국항공우주학회 2016 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.17 No.1

When manufactured parts undergo large deformations during the manufacturing process, the global specifications of a part based on the concept of tolerance zone defined in the ISO 1101 standard [1] enable one to control the part’s global defects. However, the extent of this tolerance zone is too large when the objective is to minimize local defects, such as hollows and bumps. Therefore, it is necessary to address local defects and global defects separately. This paper refers to the ISO 10579 standard [2] for flexible parts, which enables us to define a stressed state in order to measure the part by straightening it to simulate its position in the mechanism. The originality of this approach is that the straightening operation is performed numerically by calculating the displacement of a cloud of points. The results lead to a quantification of the global defects through various simple models and enable us to extract local defects. The outcome is an acceptable tolerance solution. The procedure is first developed for the simple example of a steel bar with a rectangular cross section, then applied to an industrial case involving a complex 3D surface of a turbine blade. The specification is described through ISO standards both in the free state and in the straightened state.

Performance Management Practices in the Sport Sector: An Examination of 32 Scottish National Sport Organizations

Mathieu Winand,Andrew Steen,Lobone Loyd Kasale 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Journal of Global Sport Management Vol.8 No.4

Although many studies state the benefits of performance man-agement systems within the sport sector, there has been littleresearch regarding the practical application and suitability ofthese systems. This study aims to answer this gap by analyzingnational sport organizations’performance management modelsand practices. A qualitative analysis of 32 Scottish national sportorganizations’strategic plans has been undertaken followed upby four interviews of governing body’s representatives and onefocus group including eight participants within the Scottish sportsystem. Ten common performance dimensions, twenty strategicobjectives and forty-two key performance indicators were identi-fied. Findings show that the performance management practicesof Scottish national sport organizations were affected by institu-tional pressures, making the use of performance managementsystems an institutionalized practice. Though, national sportorganizations showed pragmatic autonomy by ordinating theirbehaviors and practices for their own organizational gain, takingadvantage of their dependent position when opportunities pre-sent themselves such as securing funding.
