Azalli Bijay Lal Pradhan(Azalli Bijay Lal Pradhan ),Hemant Kothari(Hemant Kothari ),Tika Ram Chalise(Tika Ram Chalise ) KINFORMS 2023 Management Review Vol.18 No.1
Good governance is foremost in order to develop good corporate working culture. Governance includes all formal and informal rules under certain principles of accountability, transparency, and the rule of law. The implementation of corporate governance certainly influences the performance of the firm. This study focuses on the corporate governance practices implemented by the commercial banks of Nepal and their impact on the bank’s financial performance taking 11(2010-2020) years secondary data. The data were collected from Banking and Financial Statistics published by Nepal Rastra Bank. In addition to this, different published articles, reports, books, and magazines were also used. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the significance and importance of corporate governance in Nepalese Commercial Banks, where the dependent variable used was financial performance (ROA ROE and MB ratio), whereas the independent variables were Board Size, Independent directors, Board Meeting, Bank size, foreign ownership, government ownership, Bank Age. The result shows a positive relation of Age, Board size, independent directors, foreign ownership, firms’ size with the performance of the bank, whereas board meeting and government ownership shows negative relation.

By using the test fungus Macrophomina phaseolina, residues of triadimefon were found in straw collected after harvest from sprayed plants of wheat varieties Kharchia and Lal Bahadur but grains contain no such residues. Thin layer chromatographic method was developed to detect residues of the fungicide which was found to be present in straw of sprayed plants of both the varieties. No residues could be detected in grain samples. It was found that triadimefon was converted in triadimenol in/to host.

The present work deals with second order statistics of post buckling response of piezoelectric laminated composite cylindrical shell panel subjected to hygro-thermo-electro-mechanical loading with random system properties. System parameters such as the material properties, thermal expansion coefficients and lamina plate thickness are assumed to be independent of the temperature and electric field and modeled as random variables. The piezoelectric material is used in the forms of layers surface bonded on the layers of laminated composite shell panel. The mathematical formulation is based on higher order shear deformation shell theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear kinematics. A efficient $C^0$ nonlinear finite element method based on direct iterative procedure in conjunction with a first order perturbation approach (FOPT) is developed for the implementation of the proposed problems in random environment and is employed to evaluate the second order statistics (mean and variance) of the post buckling load of piezoelectric laminated cylindrical shell panel. Typical numerical results are presented to examine the effect of various environmental conditions, amplitude ratios, electrical voltages, panel side to thickness ratios, aspect ratios, boundary conditions, curvature to side ratios, lamination schemes and types of loadings with random system properties. It is observed that the piezoelectric effect has a significant influence on the stochastic post buckling response of composite shell panel under various loading conditions and some new results are presented to demonstrate the applications of present work. The results obtained using the present solution approach is validated with those results available in the literature and also with independent Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS).

Background: Sale of single cigarettes is an important factor for early experimentation, initiation and persistence of tobacco use and a vital factor in the smoking epidemic in India as it is globally. Single cigarettes also promote the sale of illicit cigarettes and neutralises the effect of pack warnings and effective taxation, making tobacco more accessible and affordable to minors. This is the first study to our knowledge which estimates the size of the single stick market in India. Materials and Methods: In February 2014, a 10 jurisdiction survey was conducted across India to estimate the sale of cigarettes in packs and sticks, by brands and price over a full business day. Results: We estimate that nearly 75% of all cigarettes are sold as single sticks annually, which translates to nearly half a billion US dollars or 30 percent of the India's excise revenues from all cigarettes. This is the price which the consumers pay but is not captured through tax and therefore pervades into an informal economy. Conclusions: Tracking the retail price of single cigarettes is an efficient way to determine the willingness to pay by cigarette smokers and is a possible method to determine the tax rates in the absence of any other rationale.

Lal, Shyam,Narasimhadhan, A. V.,Kumar, Rahul The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2015 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.10 No.3
The contrast enhancement is great challenge in the image processing when images are suffering from poor contrast problem. Therefore, in order to overcome this problem an automatic method is proposed for contrast enhancement of natural color images. The proposed method consist of two stages: in first stage lightness component in YIQ color space is normalized by sigmoid function after the adaptive histogram equalization is applied on Y component and in second stage automatic color contrast enhancement algorithm is applied on output of the first stage. The proposed algorithm is tested on different NASA color images, hyperspectral color images and other types of natural color images. The performance of proposed algorithm is evaluated and compared with the other existing contrast enhancement algorithms in terms of colorfulness metric and color enhancement factor. The higher values of colorfulness metric and color enhancement factor imply that the visual quality of the enhanced image is good. Simulation results demonstrate that proposed algorithm provides higher values of colorfulness metric and color enhancement factor as compared to other existing contrast enhancement algorithms. The proposed algorithm also provides better visual enhancement results as compared with the other existing contrast enhancement algorithms.

Performance prediction methodology for centrifugal submersible slurry pump has been presented in this paper. An in-depth study on various energy-head losses occurring through the pump flow in rotating reference frame has been carried out in this research work. Head-flow characteristics of the centrifugal pump have been accomplished in two stages. First performance of the centrifugal pump with clear water has been predicted by analyzing and deducting head losses from the theoretical head. Effects of solid particles size, specific gravity and concentration on pump slurry flow have been investigated. Additional head losses due to solid particles in the slurry have been predicted, analyzed and then deducted from clear water head to establish the performance of centrifugal slurry pump. The performance of centrifugal slurry pump has been predicted at with accuracy of 88 to 90 % for solid concentration of 18 % to 5 % by volume.

The present work proposes the thermo mechanically induced statistics of nonlinear transverse central deflection of elastically supported functionally graded (FG) plate subjected to static loadings with random system properties. The FG plate is supported on two parameters Pasternak foundation with Winkler cubic nonlinearity. The random system properties such as material properties of FG material, external loading and foundation parameters are assumed as uncorrelated random variables. The material properties are assumed as non-uniform temperature distribution with temperature dependent (TD) material properties. The basic formulation for static is based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear strain kinematics through Newton-Raphson method. A second order perturbation technique (SOPT) and direct Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) are used to compute the nonlinear governing equation. The effects of load parameters, plate thickness ratios, aspect ratios, volume fraction, exponent, foundation parameters, and boundary conditions with random system properties are examined through parametric studies. The results of present approaches are compared with those results available in the literature and by employing direct Monte Carlo simulation (MCS).
