Genomic Location of a Gene Conditioning a Miniature Phenotype in Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.]
Jeffery D. Ray,James R. Smith,Earl Taliercio,Felix B. Fritschi 한국식물학회 2012 Journal of Plant Biology Vol.55 No.1
The potential for global warming and climate change has increased the focus of research on plant genes that respond to high temperatures. Previous research identified a temperature-sensitive miniature soybean mutant that was controlled by a single gene. The objectives of our research were to confirm the single-gene control and to determine the genomic location of this gene. Segregation of the combined progeny of four BC6F5 plants heterozygous for the miniature trait in a Tracy-M background confirmed that the trait was conditioned by a single gene (1:2:1, χ2=4.38, P=0.1120). Molecular marker analysis identified three SSR markers and a SNP marker on molecular linkage group B2 (chromosome 14) associated with segregation for the miniature trait. One of these, marker Satt560, cosegregated perfectly with the miniature trait. The data from these four polymorphic markers indicated that the gene conditioning this miniature phenotype is at or near Satt560. Given this newly identified location of the gene and the recently published soybean genomic sequence, it may be feasible to isolate the gene and determine its mechanism of action in responding to temperature. Such knowledge may be of use in understanding how plants respond to increased temperature.
A vanishing theorem for $L^2$ cohomology on complete manifolds

We establish a vanishing theorem on thesquare-inte-grable cohomology associated to the Cauchy-Riemanncomplex on some complete Kaehler manifolds. The hypothesis neededfor this result is a growth condition on a primitive of theKaehler form.

The approach to teaching young children know as developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) is a culmination of educational techniques that have attempted to create the most beneficial environments for the education of young children. Built with a foundation of early childhood development, this comprehensive approach to improving the lives of children emphasizes the individuality of each child as seen in their learning styles and developmental progress, as well as their needs and interests. It is the purpose of this article to describe what the theory of DAP means to early childhood educators. To illustrate th process of constructing developmentally appropriate curriculum and environments, examples are provided from the University of Missouri-Columbia Child Development Lab. To determine DAP‘s value and effectiveness, this article offers the research conducted in the fifteen years since its inception that indicates that the standards of developmental appropriateness have improved the quality of early education as well as children‘s outcomes across developmental domains.

Ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is a rare but potentially devastating cause of degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM). Decompressive surgery is the standard of care for OPLL and can be achieved through anterior, posterior, or combined approaches to the cervical spine. Surgical correction of OPLL via any approach is associated with higher rates of complications and the presence of OPLL is considered a significant risk factor for perioperative complications in DCM surgeries. Potential complications include dural tear (DT) and subsequent cerebrospinal fluid leak, C5 palsy, hematoma, hardware failure, surgical site infections, and other neurological deficits. Anterior approaches are technically more demanding and associated with higher rates of DT but offer greater access to ventral OPLL pathology. Posterior approaches are associated with lower rates of complications but may allow for continued disease progression. Therefore, the decision to pursue either an anterior or posterior approach to surgical decompression may be critically influenced by complications associated with each procedure. The authors critically review anterior and posterior approaches to surgical decompression of OPLL with particular focus on the complications associated with each approach. We also review the recent work in developing new surgical treatments for OPLL that aim to reduce complication incidence.

Many strategies have investigated increasing self-esteem, improving comminication skills and building friendships and trust within the classroom through the use of extensive modifications, However, these solutions require extensive time and monitoring by the educator. This article will provide educators with a method tha can be implemented to assist stuents in improving social emotional skills, perceptions, attitudes, and behaviots through classroom meetings.

The Insider Movements (IM) is a phenomenon that has been observed, discussed, expounded and intensely critiqued for the last twenty-some-odd years.1 This article examines IM from a missiological perspective by asking two fundamental questions (part one and part two). The first question is quite broad: what is religion, especially from the pro-IM view? The conclusion to part one is that IM does not have a solidly biblical view of religion and its effects upon mankind. Part two explores just one of the possible results of a poorly founded view of religion: is there biblical support for IM? The conclusion for the second question is, again, negative, thus leaving IM without biblical support for what is allegedly being observed and reported by the advocates of IM.
