Correlation Study between Seismic Intensity Measures and Nonlinear Response of Arch Dam via Endurance Time Analysis

        Chao Liang,Jianyun Chen,Qiang Xu,Jing Li 대한토목학회 2021 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.25 No.1

Predicting the structural response efficiently and quickly is a major focus in civil engineering. For concrete dams, due to the structure’s complexity, it is difficult to obtain the structural performance timely through a large number of calculations. In this paper, the relationship between structural responses and seismic intensity mesures (IMs) is established under the framework of endurance time analysis method (ETAM) with its good accuracy and high efficiency. Baihetan arch dam is selected as a case study, and the dam-reservoir-foundation system is excited under fourteen sets of endurance time acceleration functions (ETAFs) which are generated through the response spectra of ground motion records. The results show that, compared with displacement-dependent damage indices (DIs), damage-dependent DIs can better reflect damage characteristics of the arch dam under different damage levels. Among the ETA-related IMs, the combined spectral acceleration is the most practical and proficient, followed by acceleration spectral intensity (ASI) and effective peak acceleration (EPA). For high arch dam, the influence of the higher order modes should be fully taken into account when establishing the correlation between the structural response and the IMs. The sufficiency of IMs based on structural response should also be fully demonstrated.

Iterative Learning Identification and Control for Discrete-time Linear Time-varying Systems with Iteration Varying Lengths

Chao Liang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2023 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.21 No.6

In the paper, iterative learning identification (ILI) and iterative learning control (ILC) for linear timevarying systems (LTVSs) with iteration varying lengths are investigated. A new ILI algorithm is firstly proposed, which makes the best of the available information in the incomplete iteration process. The identification speed of system parameters is improved. Then, on the basis of zero-compensation mechanism, a norm optimal ILC is presented for LTVSs with iteration varying lengths. From the perspective of iterative learning gain, the relationship between the two algorithms is analyzed when iterative learning gain is designed by using the identification model. Further, different from zero-compensation mechanism, a new compensation mechanism based on identification model obtained by ILI algorithm is proposed and an ILC algorithm by using compensation mechanism based on identification model is designed. The convergence speed for tracking performance of ILC algorithm with compensation mechanism based on identification model can be improved in comparison with the existing method. The convergence conditions of all algorithms are analyzed. An example is used to validate the designed algorithms.

Selection of reference genes for Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) feeding on different diets

        Chao Liang,Shipeng Han,Hui Han,Feng Zhao,Yunzhuan He 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.22 No.4

The selection of a stable reference gene is vital to gene expression studies and to improving the accuracy of RTqPCR data. With the deep research on the artificial feed of the Harmonia axyridis, there is an increasing need to evaluate the effects of feed on insects at the molecular level. To identify a reference gene to assess the expression of related genes in Harmonia axyridis (Pallas), ensure the reliability of target gene expression analysis using realtime PCR. Especially for H. axyridis were fed Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) or an artificial diet. In this study, the expression profiles of nine candidate reference genes, including 28SrRNA, 18SrRNA, RPS23, EF1, Actin, ATPase, GAPDH, UBI, RPL13 from different H. axyridis tissues (head, thorax, wing, leg, ovary, and fat body) were investigated. The stability of the nine candidate genes was assessed using geNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper and RefFinder software, and a comprehensive analysis showed that EF1 is a suitable reference gene for eating different diets of different organizations from H. axyridis. 28SrRNA, 18SrRNA, and RPS23 can also be used as reference genes, but Actin, ATPase, RPL13 are not suitable as an internal reference gene

The Studies of Irradiation Hardening of Stainless Steel Reactor Internals under Proton and Xenon Irradiation

        Chaoliang Xu,Lu Zhang,Wangjie Qian,Jinna Me,Xiangbing Liu 한국원자력학회 2016 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.48 No.3

Specimens of stainless steel reactor internals were irradiated with 240 keV protons and6 MeV Xe ions at room temperature. Nanoindentation constant stiffness measurementtests were carried out to study the hardness variations. An irradiation hardening effect wasobserved in proton- and Xe-irradiated specimens and more irradiation damage causes alarger hardness increment. The Nix-Gao model was used to extract the bulk-equivalenthardness of irradiation-damaged region and critical indentation depth. A different hardeninglevel under H and Xe irradiation was obtained and the discrepancies of displacementdamage rate and ion species may be the probable reasons. It was observed that thehardness of Xe-irradiated specimens saturate at about 2 displacement/atom (dpa), whereasin the case of proton irradiation, the saturation hardness may be more than 7 dpa. Thisdiscrepancy may be due to the different damage distributions.

A study of predicting irradiation-induced transition temperature shift for RPV steels with XGBoost modeling

        Xu, Chaoliang,Liu, Xiangbing,Wang, Hongke,Li, Yuanfei,Jia, Wenqing,Qian, Wangjie,Quan, Qiwei,Zhang, Huajian,Xue, Fei Korean Nuclear Society 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.8

The prediction of irradiation-induced transition temperature shift for RPV steels is an important method for long term operation of nuclear power plant. Based on the irradiation embrittlement data, an irradiation-induced transition temperature shift prediction model is developed with machine learning method XGBoost. Then the residual, standard deviation and predicted value vs. measured value analysis are conducted to analyze the accuracy of this model. At last, Cu content threshold and saturation values analysis, temperature dependence, Ni/Cu dependence and flux effect are given to verify the reliability. Those results show that the prediction model developed with XGBoost has high accuracy for predicting the irradiation embrittlement trend of RPV steel. The prediction results are consistent with the current understanding of RPV embrittlement mechanism.

Irradiation-induced BCC-phase formation and magnetism in a 316 austenitic stainless steel

        Xu, Chaoliang,Liu, Xiangbing,Xue, Fei,Li, Yuanfei,Qian, Wangjie,Jia, Wenqing Korean Nuclear Society 2020 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.52 No.3

Specimens of austenitic stainless steel were irradiated with 6 MeV Xe ions to two doses of 7 and 15 dpa at room temperature and 300 ℃ respectively. Then partial irradiated specimens were subsequently thermally annealed at 550 ℃. Irradiation-induced BCC-phase formation and magnetism were analyzed by grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). It has been shown that irradiation damage level, irradiation temperature and annealing temperature have significant effect on BCC-phase formation. This BCC-phase changes the magnetic behavior of austenitic stainless steel. The stress relief and compositional changes in matrix are the driving forces for BCC-phase formation in austenitic stainless steel during ion irradiation.

Biodegradable pH- and Temperature-Sensitive Multiblock Copolymer Hydrogels Based on Poly(amino-ester urethane)s

        Yongtai Zheng,Chaoliang He,Cong Truc Huynh,이두성 한국고분자학회 2010 Macromolecular Research Vol.18 No.10

A novel pH- and temperature-responsive multiblock copolymer consisting of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(amino-ester urethane) (PAEU) is reported. First, a biodegradable monomer, bis-1,4-(hydroxyethyl)piperazine mono-lactate (HEP mono-lactate), was synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide (LA) using HEP and Sn(Oct)2 as an initiator and catalyst, respectively. The multiblock copolymers were synthesized further from PEG, HEP, HEP mono-lactate, and 1,6-diisocyanatohexamethylene (HDI) in the presence of dibutyltin dilaurate as a catalyst. The resulting copolymers were characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). At pH 6.8 or higher, the copolymer aqueous solutions showed gel-to-sol transitions with increasing temperature, and the gel window covered the physiological conditions. After a subcutaneous injection of the multiblock copolymer solution into SD rats, a soft gel was formed in a short time. The degradability of the copolymer was adjusted by varying the LA content in the PAEU block.

pH-Responsive Drug Delivery Systems Based on Clickable Poly(L-glutamic acid)-Grafted Comb Copolymers

        Jianxun Ding,Xuesi Chen,Chaoliang He,Chunsheng Xiao,Jie Chen,Xiuli Zhuang 한국고분자학회 2012 Macromolecular Research Vol.20 No.3

Five pH-responsive alkyne-poly(2-aminoethyl methacrylate)-graft-poly(L-glutamic acid) (alkyne-PAMA-g-PLGA) comb copolymers were synthesized through the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of γ-benzyl-L-glutamate N-carboxyanhydride (BLG NCA) and the subsequent deprotection of benzyl group from BLG unit. The chemical structures of copolymers were confirmed by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra (1H NMR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The pyrene-probe-based fluorescence technique and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements revealed that the comb copolymers could spontaneously self-assemble into micellar or vesicular nanoparticles in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) at pH 7.4. Doxorubicin (DOX), an anthracycline anticancer drug, was loaded into nanoparticles as a model anticancer drug. The in vitro release results showed that the release behaviors could be altered by adjusting the composition of the comb copolymer and pH of the release medium. In vitro methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assays demonstrated that the copolymers were biocompatible, and DOX-loaded nanoparticles showed effective inhibition of cellular proliferation. Hemolysis tests indicated that the copolymers were also hemocompatible, and that the presence of the copolymers could reduce the hemolysis ratio (HR) of the DOX significantly. In addition, the comb copolymers could be modified through versatile Cu(I)-catalyzed “click chemistry” between the terminal alkyne group and azide-modified functional agents. These properties indicate that the pH-responsive clickable comb copolymers are promising candidates for multifunctional nanocarriers in cancer diagnosis and therapy.

Case Study on Tunnel Settlement Calculations during Construction Considering Shield Disturbance

        Fuxue Sun,Zhouzhou Jin,Chaoliang Wang,Changfei Gou,Xiaochun Li,Cheng Liu,Zheng Yu 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.5

Shield construction in structural soft soils inevitably disturbs the soil around the tunnel leading to tunnel settlement instead of tunnel uplift due to soil unloading rebound during construction. In this paper, tunnel settlement prediction in structural soft soils during construction has been studied by adopting Oujiang Beikou shield tunnel as an example. Firstly, disturbance degree calculation method based on effective stress was introduced and the disturbance degree due to shield construction was numerically simulated. Secondly, combined with one-dimensional consolidation test results, a “two-fold line” settlement calculation model was developed for disturbed soil. Finally, tunnel settlement during construction was predicted through one-way compression layer-summation method and compared with experimentally measured results. Research results demonstrated that the developed method was suitable for the prediction of shield tunnel settlement in structural soft soils.
