• An analytical framework for consensus-based global optimization method

Carrillo, José,A.,Choi, Young-Pil,Totzeck, Claudia,Tse, Oliver World Scientific Publishing Company 2018 MATHEMATICAL MODELS & METHODS IN APPLIED SCIENCES Vol.28 No.6

In this paper, we provide an analytical framework for investigating the efficiency of a consensus-based model for tackling global optimization problems. This work justifies the optimization algorithm in the mean-field sense showing the convergence to the global minimizer for a large class of functions. Theoretical results on consensus estimates are then illustrated by numerical simulations where variants of the method including nonlinear diffusion are introduced.

Antiulcerative Activity of Milk Proteins Hydrolysates

        Wilman Carrillo,Karin Maia Monteiro,Daniel Martı´nez-Maqueda,Mercedes Ramos,Isidra Recio,Joa˜o Ernesto de Carvalho 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.4

Several studies have shown the protective effect of dairy products, especially α-lactalbumin and derived hydrolysates, against induced gastric ulcerative lesions. The mucus strengthening represents an important mechanism in the defense of gastrointestinal mucosa. Previously, a hydrolysate from casein (CNH) and a hydrolysate from whey protein concentrate rich in β-lactoglobulin (WPH) demonstrated a stimulatory activity on mucus production in intestinal goblet cells. The aim of this work was to evaluate the possible antiulcerative activity of these two hydrolysates in an ethanol-induced ulcer model in rats. All tested samples significantly reduced the ulcerative lesions index (ULI), compared with the saline solution, using doses of 300 and 1000 mg kg−1 body weight with decreases up to 66.3% ULI. A dose–response relationship was found for both hydrolysates. The involvement of endogenous sulfhydryl (SH) groups and prostaglandins (PGs) in the antiulcerative activity was evaluated using their blockage. The antiulcerative activity of WPH showed a drastic decrease in presence of N-ethylmaleimide (from 41.4% to 9.2% ULI). However, the CNH antiulcerative properties were not significantly affected. The cytoprotective effect of WPH appears to depend on a PG-mediated mechanism. In conclusion, CNH and WPH demonstrated in vivo antiulcerative properties and represent a promising alternative as protectors of the gastric mucosa.

Changes in the oral environment during four stages of orthodontic treatment

        Lara-Carrillo Edith,Norma Margarita Montiel-Bastida,Sa'nchez-Pe'rez Leonor,Alani's-Tavira Jorge 대한치과교정학회 2010 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.40 No.2

Objective: To identify clinical, salivary, and bacterial changes during orthodontic treatment with follow-up to 24 months. Methods: In 30 patients, clinical (decayed, missing, and filled surfaces [DMFS], O'Leary's plaque index, and plaque pH), salivary (unstimulated and stimulated saliva, buffer capacity, pH, and occult blood), and bacterial (Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus) markers were evaluated. A questionnaire was employed to evaluate their hygienic-dietary habits. Data were analyzed by ANOVA, logistic regression and Spearman?s correlation. Results: DMFS increased significantly, whereas the plaque index diminished, plaque pH was more acidic (p = 0.23), and unstimulated salivary flow showed significant differences during the treatment (p = 0.013). Stimulated saliva flow increased in females after the placement of appliances; buffer capacity was diminished in males during the therapy; salivary pH remained at basal values. Bacterial levels and occult blood increased to high-risk levels and were not statistically significant different between genders (p > 0.05). Two major relationships were confirmed: initial plaque with use of dental aids (r = 0.429; p = 0.018) and final DMFS with unstimulated salivary flow (r = -0.372; p = 0.043). Conclusions: The increase in retentive surfaces increased the bacterial levels, plaque pH became acidified, and gingival damage was greater. Buffer capacity was altered but maintained a healthy salivary pH during the treatment.

Trade Blocks and the Gravity Model: Evidence from Latin American Countries

( Carlos Carrillo Tudela ),( Carmen A Li ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 (구 세종대학교 국제경제연구소) 2004 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.19 No.4

We apply the gravity model to examine the effects of the Andean Community and Mercosur on both intra-regional and intra-industrial trade in the period 1980- 1997. After accounting for size distance and competitiveness effects, the Andean Community preferential trade agreements had a significant effect on the reference products but only a marginal effect on the differentiated products, in particular capital-intensive goods. Mercosur preferential trade agreements had a significant positive effect only on the capital-intensive subcategory of the reference products.

Antiproliferative Activity of Walnut (Juglans regia L.) Proteins and Walnut Protein Hydrolysates

Wilman Carrillo,Jose Angel Gomez-Ruiz,Ana Lucia Ruiz,Joao Ernesto Carvalho 한국식품영양과학회 2017 Journal of medicinal food Vol.20 No.11

Proteins from Juglans regia L. were isolated. Then, proteins were hydrolyzed with different enzymes. Antiproliferative activity of proteins and of the protein hydrolysates of J. regia L. were evaluated using the sulforhodamine B method. Glutelin and prolamin proteins presented a high antiproliferative activity against cancer cells PC-3 (prostate) and K-562 (leukemia) with values of 43.9 and 84.4 μg/mL, respectively. The highest inhibitory effect observed was 50% at 0.25 μg/mL concentration in gastrointestinal digestion with pepsin and corolase pp in a dose-dependent manner against cancer cell UACC62 (melanoma). Pepsin hydrolysate showed inhibitory effects against cancer cell UACC62 (melanoma) with a concentration of 71.0 μg/mL. The effects were studied in a dose-dependent manner. The hydrolysate obtained with neutrase enzyme presented inhibitory effects against cancer cell UACC62 (melanoma) at a concentration of 25 μg/mL. Neither proteins nor protein hydrolysates presented cytotoxicity against normal cell assay VERO (epithelial).

Identification of Antimicrobial Peptides of Native and Heated Hydrolysates from Hen Egg White Lysozyme

Wilman Carrillo,Mercedes Ramos 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.9

Hen eggs are a source of bioactive compounds, of which the hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL) protein. HEWL has a demonstrated antibacterial activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of native and heated HEWL hydrolysates obtained through hydrolysis with pepsin and to identify their peptides using the reversed phase high performance liquid chromatography–electrospray ionization–tandem mass spectrometry (RP-HPLC-ESI-MS-MS) analysis. Native and heat-treated HEWL was hydrolyzed with pepsin at pH 1.2, and their antibacterial activity was tested against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus carnosus. Two of the hydrolysates obtained presented high antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Native HEWL hydrolysate was a bactericide at 2.0 mg/mL against E. coli. Fifty-one peptide sequences were identified on the two hydrolysates. Peptides identified are cationic peptides. These peptides are rich in Lys and Arg cationic amino acids and have Trp in their sequences.

La Industria de los Televisores en México : Integración y Proveedores Locales en Tijuana

        Jorge Carrillo 한국라틴아메리카학회 2002 라틴아메리카연구 Vol.15 No.1

The manufacturing transnational corporations (TNC) subsidiaries established in Mexico are playing a priority role within the labor markets in the Mexican economy, not only because of their participation in exports, generation of foreign exchange and employment in Mexico, but also because they are in command of a process of deep economic change. Although the impact TNC subsidiaries have on the local configuration of productive networks, business capacities and links with different sectors has not been studied well enough in Mexico, it is nevertheless widely criticized. In other words, TNC subsidiaries undoubtedly have a positive impact on different areas, such as employment, generating foreign exchange, technological and organizational capacities and labor skills, but it is based on a learning that takes place within the affiliated plants themselves and in intra-firm relations. In spite of government and private efforts, their local spill over effects on Mexican companies is still very weak. The purpose of this study is to identify the impact foreign TNC subsidiaries located in Mexico have on the development of local suppliers. The methodology is based on the application of three different types of questionnaires: one addressed to television TNC assembly plant workers in Tijuana, another to local suppliers, both foreign and national, and a third questionnaire geared to decision-makers and local business associations. We also considered results from other studies and analyzed different sources of information. The questionnaires were applied in Tijuana throughout January 2001. The results of the study shows that theres is an important industrial agglomeration in Tijuana and several institutions support this enviroment of clustering. Nevertheless, there are a major disadventages for increase local productive capabilities, but still a room for Mexican suppliers and for public and private policy.
