The Impact of Geopolitical Risk on Financial Conditions of Emerging Economies
Namarta Kumari BAJAJ(Namarta Kumari BAJAJ ),Tariq AZIZ(Tariq AZIZ ),Sonia KUMARI(Sonia KUMARI ),Marim ALENEZI(Marim ALENEZI ),Naif Mansour MATHKUR(Naif Mansour MATHKUR ) 한국유통과학회 2023 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.10 No.1
The detrimental impacts of financial instability on the world economy during the financial crisis highlighted the requirement to understand the existing financial circumstances. Stability and developments in financial conditions are important for economic prosperity. This study analyses the impact of geopolitical risk on the economic conditions of some specific emerging economies using monthly data from January 1999 to September 2016 by applying a fixed-effects panel data model. The estimation results demonstrated that geopolitical risk has a significant, negative impact on financial conditions. It shows geopolitical risk could be seen as a key factor that contributes towards financial conditions. Further, it implies that negative shocks of high geopolitical risk experienced by emerging economies are one of the primary reasons for the financial conditions’ deterioration. The findings provide important insights for governments, policymakers, and investors. For instance, governments and politicians should refrain from expressing or producing tension, economic discomfort, or news that is likely to increase a high geopolitical risk. Maintaining a close eye on geopolitical risk and its sources may also help to stabilize financial conditions and develop a well-functioning financial system. As a result, investors would be better informed about an economy’s economic and financial conditions, allowing them to diversify their international portfolios and devise investing strategies during uncertain economic times.
Of ban, use, and misuse: Young women and emergency contraceptive pill in contemporary India
Bajaj Himani 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2022 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.28 No.3
After the emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) became available in India, it has received significant attention from several social, religious, and political groups and institutions. The increasing use of the ECP as a hormonal birth control method by women has not only bothered medical institutions due to its short-term and possible long-term side-effects, but some social and religious groups have also demanded an outright ban on its sale. This paper is based first on the limited public discussion on the ECP, which has focused on morality; and second, on my semi-structured interviews with women that illustrate the gendered contexts within which they have exercised choice regarding its use. Feminist scholarship on heterosexuality demonstrates that the social context of gendered power relations affects contraceptive choices and negotiations between partners. Using this as a framework, this article there by highlights young women’s negotiation regarding their sexual desires and safe sex within spaces of intimacy and power.

<P>Electrospun carbon nanofibers (CNFs) decorated with copper oxide nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using a one step and modified hydroxyl ion assisted alcohol reduction method. The X-ray diffraction pattern reveals the presence of (−111), (111) and (−202) crystal planes of monoclinic copper oxide (CuO). The CuO coated CNF air annealed at 250 °C exhibited an electrical conductivity of 251 S m−1. The CuO coated CNFs were employed as a novel flexible matrix for a cholesterol biosensor. The biosensor exhibited a high sensitivity of 75 μA mM−1 cm−2 over the linear range (0.12 mM to 12.93 mM) of cholesterol. This coating method offers easy and inexpensive processing with a flexible and robust supporting structure for biosensing applications.</P>
One-Step Continuous Coating of Silver Nanoparticles on Well Aligned Fibers of PAI/PTACM
Bajaj, Bharat,Kim, Bin,Yoon, Sangjun,Lee, Jaerock,Park, Byungki THE KOREAN FIBER SOCIETY 2014 FIBERS AND POLYMERS Vol.15 No.1
Highly aligned ultrafine fibers of Poly (amide-co-imide) PAI (torlon)/Poly (trimellitic anhydride chloride-co-4, 4'-methylene dianiline) (PTACM) blends have been prepared by using mechano-electrospinning. Employing a mixed solvent system of DMSO and THF alongwith water coagulation bath as a medium, continuous fibers with improved mechanical properties have been obtained. The continuity of the fibers is strongly dependent on the solvent mixing ratio of DMSO and THF (6:4). Continuous fibers with the most uniform diameter are obtained when a 30 % of PAI and PTACM (1:1) resins by weight is used in the blending solution. The aligned fibers are further coated with silver nanoparticles using a one-step process by passing the electrospunned fibers through PEG solution and a silver precursor solution followed by reduction in a continuous process. The advantage of our method lies in a uniform silver coating on a single fiber that can be coated continuously on a larger length scale (~Km). The mechanical properties of these fibers are dramatically improved after their alignment. Better electrical conductivity is obtained for these fibers after they are coated with silver nanoparticles. The highly aligned silver decorated fibers utilizes a novel electroless continuous process using Polyethylene glycol (PEG), which shows good binding properties and can be used for various bio and electronic applications.
Necrotizing pancreatitis in a COVID-19 patient managed with endoscopic AXIOS stent placement
Suryansh Bajaj,Unnati Bhatia,Stevi Barrett,Jordan LeGout,Yan Bi 소화기인터벤션의학회 2022 International journal of gastrointestinal interven Vol.11 No.1
As coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a relatively novel infectious process, atypical presentations like acute pancreatitis (AP) are still being studied and a clear association between pancreatic injury and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has yet to be established. This makes the diagnosis and management of such conditions exceedingly difficult. Although several cases of severe AP with concurrent SARS-CoV-2 infection have been reported, to the best of our knowledge, ours is the first COVID-19 case to present with necrotizing pancreatitis and the first reported case requiring intervention for associated local complications.

Purpose Epileptic seizure is generated by abnormal synchronization of neurons of the cerebral cortex of the patients, which is commonly detected by electroencephalograph (EEG)signals. In this paper, the intracranial EEG signals have been used to detect focal temporal lobe epilepsy. Methods This paper presents a new method based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) of EEG signals for detection of epileptic seizures. The proposed method uses the Hilbert transformation of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs),obtained by EMD process that provides analytic signal representation of IMFs. The instantaneous area measured from the trace of the windowed analytic IMFs of EEG signals provides rules-based detection of focal temporal lobe epilepsy. Results The experiment results on intracranial EEG signals are included to show the effectiveness of the proposed method for detection of focal temporal lobe epilepsy. The performance evaluation of the proposed method for epileptic seizure detection has performed by computing the sensitivity (SEN),specificity (SPE), positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV) and error rate detection (ERD). Conclusions The proposed method has been compared to the existing methods for detecting focal temporal lobe epilepsy from intracranial EEG signals. The proposed method has provided detection of focal temporal lobe epilepsy with increased accuracy.
Ascent and descent of composition operators on Lorentz spaces
Daljeet Singh Bajaj,Gopal Datt 대한수학회 2022 대한수학회논문집 Vol.37 No.1
In this paper, we provide various characterizations for the composition operator on Lorentz spaces $L(p,q)$, $1<p\le \infty$, $1\le q\le\infty$ to have finite ascent (descent) in terms of its inducing measurable transformation. At the end, in order to demonstrate our outcomes, some examples are given.
