Objectives : This experiment was performed to determine the effects of the Jeseubsungi-tang(JSSGT) on hyperlipidemia-induced by hypercholesterolemic diet in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized with a hypercholesterolemic diet for 6 weeks. Experimental group was treated with $150mg/d{\ell}$ concentrations of JSSGT for 4 weeks (once a day). Results: JSSGT-treated mice showed a body weight decrease compared to normal group. JSSGT-treated mice showed a significant decrease in cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglyceride, ALT and LDL-cholesterol levels compared to hyperlipidemia-induced control group. However, HDL-cholesterol levels in JSSGT-treated group significantly increased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. Conclusion : These results suggest that JSSGT is effective in treating hyperlipidemia. Because only hyperlipidemic mice were studied, further research is needed.
가미자음강화탕(加味滋陰降火湯)이 SHR의 혈압에 미치는 영향

Objective : This study was done to investigate the effect of KJT on hypertension. Methods : Spontaneous Hypertensive Rats were sensitized and challenged with Kamijaeumganghwatang(KJT) for 5 weeks. Experimental group was treated with $200mg/day/2m{\ell}$ of KJT orally and control group was treated with $2m{\ell}/day$ of normal saline instead. Results : 1. KJT significantly showed significant protection against cytotoxicity and toxicity in the liver and the kidney. 2. KJT significantly decreased the blood pressure in SHR. 3. KJT significantly decreased the levels of aldosterone in SHR. 4. KJT significantly decreased the levels of dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine in SHR. 5. KJT significantly decreased the levels of sodium and potassium in SHR, but it did not decrease the levels of chloride in SHR. Levels of calcium in SHR increased, but only insignificantly. 6. KJT significantly decreased the levels of IL-6 in SHR, and significantly increased the levels of IL-10 in SHR. 7. For histological effects, KJT dillated capillary vessels in the kidney, significantly decreased eosinophilic changes in heart cells, and significantly decreased endothelial damage in the aorta. Conclusion: These results suggest that KJT is useful in treatment of hypertension.
고cholesterol 식이 자발성 고혈압 백서(白鼠)에서의 가미방풍통성산(加味防風通聖散)이 고혈압에 미치는 영향

This experiment was performed to determine the effects of Kamibangpungtongsungsan on hypertension in spontaneous hypertensive rats fed a hyperlipidemic diet (H-SHR). The results are summarized as follows : 1. Kamibangpungtongsungsan significantly decreased the blood pressure and pulse of rats in H-SHR. 2. Kamibangpungtongsungsan significantly decreased the levels of Aldosterone in H-SHR. 3. Kamibangpungtongsungsan significantly decreased the levels of dopamine and epinephrine in H-SHR, but did not significantly reduce the levels of norepinephrine, in H-SHR. 4. Kamibangpungtongsungsan did not significantly reduce the levels of electrolytes in H-SHR. 5. Kamibangpungtongsungsan significantly decreased the TNF-$\alpha$ and IL-6 levels in H-SHR but the IL-10 level increase no significant. These results suggest that the Kamibangpungtongsungsan might be usefully applied for the treatment of hypertension with hyperlipidemia.

This experiment was performed to determine the antihypertensive effect of Yangganhwadam-tang(YHT) on hypertension in spontaneously hypertensive rat. The results obtained were as follows : 1. YHT showed scavenging activity on DPPH free radical and SOD-like activity. 2. YHT significantly decreased heart weight. 3. YHT significantly decreased blood pressure and pulse. 4. YHT significantly decreased the level of plasma aldosterone. 5. YHT significantly decreased the level of norepinephrine. 6. YHT significantly decreased the levels of potassium and calcium. 7. YHT significantly decreased the level of BUN. 8. YHT decreased eosinophilic changes in the heart cells, and dilated renal arterioles stenosis. These results suggest that YHT might be effective in treatment and prevention of hypertension.
강지통맥음(降脂通脈飮)이 항산화 활성과 고지혈(高脂血) 유발(誘發) 백서(白鼠)에 미치는 영향(影響)

This experiments was performed to determine the effects of Gangzitongmaekeum(降脂通脈飮 : GTE) on antioxidation activity and hyperlipidemia induced by hypercholesterolemic diet in mice. The results obtained were as follows : 1. GTE showed a safety in cytotoxicity and toxicity of human fibroblast cells and liver. 2. GTE showed DPPH scavenging activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD)-like activity and inhibitory effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS). 3. GTE treated mice showed body and liver weight decrease, compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 4. GTE decreased total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels significantly, but HDL cholesterol levels not significantly. 5. GTE decreased triglyceride levels significantly. 6. Glucose levels in GTE treated mice significantly decreased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 7. Albumin levels in GTE treated mice were similar with the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 8. The lipophagy in liver compared with the control group tended to be decreased in GTE treated mice. In the change of aorta, the cell was regular and boundary of vessel wall was clear, compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 9. TBARS levels in GTE treated mice significantly decreased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 10. The change of SOD and catalase activity significantly increased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. 11. ACAT mRNA level and HMG-CoA reductase mRNA levels in GTE treated mice significantly decreased compared to the hyperlipidemia-induced control group. Conclusion : These results suggest that Gangzitongmaekeum is effective in antioxidation activity and dietary hyperlipidemia-induced mice.
가미옥녀전(加味玉女煎)이 고혈압백서(高血壓白鼠)의 혈압(血壓) 유관인자(有關因子)변화에 미치는 영향(影響)

Objective : This study was done to investigate the effect of Gamioknyeo-jeon (GOJ) on spontaneously hypertensive rats. Methods : Spontaneously hypertensive rats were sensitized and challenged with GOJ for 4 weeks. the experimental group was treated with 56.7mg/kg/day of GOJ orally while the control group was treated with 56.7mg/kg/day of normal saline instead. Results : 1. GOJ significantly showed safety against cytotoxicity and toxicity in the liver. 2. GOJ significantly decreased the heart rate and the blood pressure in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 3. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of aldosterone in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 4. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of dopamine and norepinephrine in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 5. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of potassium and chloride in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. 6. GOJ significantly decreased the levels of uric acid, BUN and creatinine in Spontaneously hypertensive rats. Conclusion : These results suggest that GOJ might be useful in treatment of hypertension.
백부근(百部根) 약침(藥鍼)의 천식억제(喘息抑制) 및 면역조절효과에 대한 실험적 연구

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of SR-HA(Stemonae Radix-herbal acupuncture) at Joksamni(ST36) on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks(once a week). One of the two experimental groups was just treated with needle-prick on Joksamni(ST36) and the other group was treated with 1% concentrations of SR-HA at Joksamni(ST36) for the later 8 weeks (3times/week). The weight of lung of the mice group treated with SR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group, and significantly increased compared with those of normal group. The total cells of lung of the mice group treated with SR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. Total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated wtih SR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. Eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated wtih SR-HA in Photomicrographs decreased significantly compared with those of control group. According to histological analysis of lung sections, adhesion of collagen in SR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. The concentration of IgE, IL-4, IL-5 in BALF of the mice group treated with SR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group, and significantly increased compared with those of normal group. The concentration of IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in serum of the mice group treated with SR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group, and significantly increased compared with those of normal group. The number of Gr-1+/CDl1b+, CO3-/CCR3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD3e+/CD69+ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with SR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. These results suggest that Stemonae Radix Herbal-acupuncture at Joksamni(ST36) in 057B146mice may be an effective part to OVA-induced asthma in C57BL/6 mice.

Objective : Ssanggang-tang(SGT) is noted as an effective method to treat hyperlipidemia in China. The main purpose of this study was analysis of the effects of Ssanggang-tang(SGT) on rats induced with caused hyperlipidemia. Methods : We observed 3 experimental groups: normal, control, and SGT. Rats were provided a normal diet in the normal group, and the other groups were provided a hyperlipidemic diet to induce hyperlipidemia. After 2 weeks, SGT was treated in the SGT group. For 6 weeks, values related to hyperlipidemia were observed in the 3 experimental groups. Results : SGT decreased some values related to hyperlipidemia like total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL cholesterol), triglyceride, acetocoenzyme A acetyltransferase(ACAT), and 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase(HMG-CoA reductase). However, it showed no effect on weight change or high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL cholesterol). Conclusion : These results suggest that SGT might be effective in treatment and prevention of hyperlipidemia.

Objective : Therapeutic effect of Balance Appliance of functional cerebrospinal technique (FCST) for meridian and neurologic yinyang balance was observed in one neck pain case. Method : A neck pain one case with 3 months of duration was managed by the Balance Appliance on temporomandibular joint (TMJ), combined with acupuncture and manual medicine. Results : Assessment was made by self assessment of subjective symptoms and clinical observation. The patient reported over-90% remission and returned to ordinary daily life after 1 months of therapy. Conclusions : An impressive effect was observed and further clinical and biological research on FCST is expected.
