Many factors may affect periodontal changes during the physiologic conditions of woman(e.g. puberty, menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause). Recently many research has focused on the immunological changes of host, but the exact mechanism is not clear. Collagen is a major constituent of periodontium, and collagenase specifically digests the collagen and plays a role in destruction of periodontal tissue. So, I suppose that it participates with the cytokines in the inflammation of gingiva and vascular response during the changes of female sex hormones. Because there are some evidences of the existence of the receptors of estrogen and progesterone in the gingiva, it may be a target tissue of female sex hormones. In this experiment, gingival fibroblast and periodontal ligament cell were cultured in the presence of various concentrations of estrogen or progesterone corresponding to the menstrual cycle and pregnancy. Collagenase activity of the supernatant of culture media was determined by Spectrophotometric collagenase assay. The enzyme activity was calculated by the % decrease of the coated collagen. 1. The estrogen at both concentrations had no effect on the activity of collagenase of the gingival fibroblast. 2. The progesterone had some effect on the collagenase activity of the gingival fibroblast at low and high concentration of menstrual cycle, and elevated the enzyme activity at all range of pregnancy concentrations. 3. In periodontal ligament cells, estrogen elevated the enzyme activity at the early pregnancy concentration and progesterone elevated at the concentration just before menstruation. In this experiment, pregesterone elevated the collagenase activity of gingival fibroblast and periodontal ligament cells. But the mechanism of the up-regulation of the enzyme activity was not confirmed. The more experiments of direct effect of progesterone on gingival at the molecular level(e.g. northern blot analysis) can reveal the exact mechanism.

We have screened available chromosomal deficiencies on the X chromosome for genetic loci whose zygotic expression is required for body-wall muscle development during embryogenesis in Caenorhabditis elegans. Previously, it had been reported that no sign of muscle development was detected in nullo-X embryos arrested at an early stage of embryogenesis. Based on this observation, it has been suggested that genetic loci exist on the X chromosome whose zygotic expression is essential for body-wall muscle formation. In order to identify such myogenic loci, 9 chromosomal deficiencies covering approximately 45% of the X chromosome have been tested. Homozygous embryos from these deficiency strains were collected and terminal phenotypes of arrested embryos were observed by Nomarski microscopy. As a secondary assay, monoclonal antibodies against two myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoforms, the products of the myo-3 and unc-54 genes, were used to detect body-wall muscle differentiation. All the homozygous deficiency embryos were positively stained with both MHC antibodies and muscle twitching movement was observed in most cases. Combined with previously analyzed deficiencies, our deficiency screen has covered approximately 70% of the X chromosome. We conclude that the regions covered by the available deficiencies on the X chromosome do not include any myogenic locus required for body-wall muscle formation. Alternatively, the possibility that nullo-X embryo may not form body-wall muscle due to a general failure to differentiate during embryogenesis remains to be tested.

The objectives of this study are to diagnose the reality of the existing university Korean liberal education and to suggest a new class modet of liberal subjects in accordance with the importance and necessity of education for speaking. Concretely, the improvement measures for <words & writing in our living> which was the Korean liberal course in Mokwon University were suggested as operating a new class model. Based on this, a class model <reading & expressions> which was newly reformed was suggested. Focusing on speaking which is currently dealt as imparlance, <reading & expressions> is the subject centered -integrated class combined with reading and writing. With a debate about suggestive subjects for a week and the correction of writings for another week, the actual participation in classes and feed-back were achieved. For this, the size of a class was limited as 30 people as strengthening the instructor's management system. The Korean liberal course in university in the current era is facing new turning paint. While the past Korean liberal course focused on reading and writing, now it is necessary to have curriculum to improve self-expression ability focusing on speaking. Based on the fact that the Korean liberal course is the basic knowledge that can include various major areas as being recognized as an essential tool for communication, it is needed to cultivate integrated Korean ability by crossing school system In this paint. this class case and the development plan of curriculum would be a precedent of current Korean course of university liberal education.
