『캐스터브리지 읍장』, 세 겹의 애도

This paper attempts to read Thomas Hardy`s The Mayor of Casterbridge as a book of threefold mourning. First of all, it is a mourning for Michael Henchard, who meets a lonely death long after selling his lawful wife to a strange seaman. The confrontation of Henchard and Farfrae, however, provides an additional meaning for his death; that is, the transition from the old order represented by Henchard to the new one embodied in Farfrae. Thus, Henchard`s fall and death point to a sort of grieving over a vanishing civilization. This composes the second mourning of the book. The third mourning is concerned with classifying the work as a tragic novel, as the author attempted to introduce some key elements of the classical tragedy. The experiment is only half-successful, for it turns out to be an impossible task to build a house of classical tragedy on the precarious foundation of the 19^th century realist fiction. As a result, the novel presents further evidence of the so-called death of tragedy, and this forms the third and final mourning in The Mayor of Casterbridge.

원격근무 환경에서 직원 간 유대관계 증진을 위한 메타버스 소통 창구

코로나 19 이후, 원격근무와 하이브리드 근무의 비율이 급속도로 증가하였다. 많은 근무자들이 원격 혹은 하이브리드 근무 형태에 만족하고 있으나, 사내 구성원과의 소통 단절과 친밀도 저하는 원격근무의 효과적인 도입을 위해 해결되어야 하는 가장 큰 문제점으로 여겨진다. 이와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위해 본 연구에서는 원격 근무자들을 대상으로 원격근무에 대한 태도에 대해 설문하고, 설문 결과를 토대로 원격근무자들이 가상의 환경에서 만나 소통을 하고 소속감을 증진시킬 수 있는 메타버스 소통 창구를 제안한다. 해당 연구는 원격근무 환경 연구의 이해 폭을 확장하고 원격 근무자들을 위한 환경 개선에 기여할 수 있다.

방송대 튜터제도 개선 방안 연구 - 과제물 평가와 연계하여-

한국방송통신대학교는 낮은 학업지속률을 개선하기 위해 2005년부터 학과튜터 제도를 운영했지만 이 시도는 그리 성공적이지 못한 것으로 밝혀졌다. 결국 튜터제도는 대학의 전반적 교수학습의 질을 향상시키는 방향으로 전환해야 하고, 이를 위해서는 튜터들에게 과제물 평가 업무를 맡기는 것이 가장 효과적인 방안으로 보인다. 이렇게 되면 일회적, 단절적 활동의 성격을 지니는 과제물 평가가 튜터의 지도를 통해 학기초부터 진행되는 지속적 학습 과정으로 바뀌면서 교수학습의 질이 높아진다. 구체적으로 특정 과목에 일정 수의 튜터를 배정하여 학습지도, 평가, 피드백 등의 활동을 하게 하는 ‘심화과목’ 도입 방안을 장기적으로 검토할 만하고, 단기적으로는 신편입생 중심으로 운영되는 현행 학과튜터 제도의 취지를 살려 튜터들에게 과제물평가 역할도 함께 맡기는 방안이 있다. 두 방안 모두 관건은 튜터들에게 평가권을 부여하는 것이며, 장기적으로 출석수업, 과제물 평가, 튜터링 등 준교수요원의 업무를 통합하는 방안을 모색해야 할 것이다. In 2005, Korea National Open University launched a new tutoring system with the purpose of preventing the chronic high dropout rate. However, the idea has proved unsuccessful and it seems reasonable to remodel the tutoring system toward enhancing its quality of teaching and learning. The key to the remodelling must be to grant the evaluation authority to the tutors who have worked as mere assistants or supporters until now. The first suggestion is to select a kind of ‘advanced course’―not all the courses of the department―whose students are not only evaluated by the course-based tutor for their mid-term assignments but receive their feedbacks also. The second one is to maintain the present department-based tutoring system, whose tutors will be also given the evaluation rights for their tutees. From a long-term perspective, it’s recommendable to combine the roles of the following three associate faculty of the university: the part-time lecturers, assignment evaluation panel and tutors.

실패하는 이상주의자들

This paper attempts to classify Thomas Hardy`s three major characters as so-called `idealists` and thereby to explain the particular world of his novels. These idealists are Clym Yeobright, Angel Clare, and Sue Bridehead, The main points are, firstly, Hardy has a persistent `partiality` for the people classified as idealists; and secondly that he paradoxically holds a `prejudice` against his characters` pursuits, which are destined to be frustrated and defeated. Their pursuits are accompanied by a strong moral enthusiasm, but unfortunately tend to retreat to conventional values and rules at crucial moments. Their idealistic vision and practices escalate from Clym to Angel and Sue, and so do their destructive influences on their partners. Hardy`s `partiality` for the idealist character traces back to his unpublished early novel, The Poor Man and the Lady, whose dramatic satire of society is carried out by a young man with a passion for reforming the world. George Meredith`s negative comment of the manuscript`s socialistic bent and the difficulties regarding its unsuccessful publication are assumed to have had much to do with Hardy`s unique `prejudice` against the idealist project.

교환기 UIMS의 UI 관리를 위한 데이타베이스 이용 방안

본 연구는 교환기 UIMS의 사용자 인터페이스 정보를 관리하는 데 데이타베이스의 자료 관리 기능을 이용하는 방안을 제시하는 것이다. 이를 위해 교환기 응용을 포함한 일반적인 응용의 정적 동적 사용자 인터페이스를 분석하여 이를 구성하는 기본 사용자 인터페이스 객체를 분석하고 이를 데이타베이스로 저장 관리하기 위한 스키마를 설계한다. 다음 사용자 인터페이스를 설계 실행 관리하는 데 필요한 사용자 인터페이스 관리 정보를 정의한다. 그리고 이를 데이타베이스를 운영하는 방안을 제시하고 사용자 인터페이스를 관리하는 기본 연산으로 사용자 인터페이스 검색, 삽입, 삭제, 갱신을 제시한다.

Blended Group Tutoring

Tutoring has been considered a focal point of learner-support in distance universities. Korea National Open University, however, has had difficulty in establishing a good tutoring system due to shortages in the budget. Fortunately, it is now endowed with the opportunity to utilize its own strengths : the information and communication technology and the on-line learning environment. First of all the new scheme is characterized by blended tutoring. The blending of on-line and off-line tutorings produced considerable synergies and presented a shortcut to the innovation of the tutoring system of KNOU. Another important aspect of the new tutoring is group tutoring. Grouping enables students to get a sense of companionship, to be motivated into competitiveness, and to share and enjoy what they have learned with other tutees. A kind of learning community is constructed within the tutoring system. Thus the new tutoring system shows a happy marriage of technology and psychology, which proposes the new tutoring system as an alternative to the traditional tutoring at mega- open universities.

위상 관계 분석을 위한 공간 객체의 중첩 영역을 고려한 문자열 표현 기법

본 논문은 대량의 좌표정보를 비교해야 하는 위상 관계를 좌표 비교 없이 분석하기 위해 2M5R 문자열을 이용하는 방법을 제안한다. 이차원 그림에 포함된 공간 객체들은 객체의 MBR을 기준으로 넷 또는 다섯 개의 영역에 투영한 후 그 결과에 따라 분할하고, 이들간의 중첩 정보와 방향 정보를 문자열로 표현한다. 본 논문에서는 이를 2M5R 문자열로 정의한다. 2M5R 문자열을 이용하면 객체의 MBR 과 2M5R 문자열에 표현된 소량의 공간 정보만으로 위상 관계를 분석할 수 있다. 이는 객체 MBR을 비교하여 가능한 위상 관계를 여과하는 단계와 여과된 위상 관계에 해당하는 규칙을 2M5R 문자열에 적용하여 하나의 위상 관계를 결정하는 두 단계로 진행된다. 따라서 좌표값을 비교하지 않고 위상 관계를 분석하므로 분석 시간이 단축된다. This paper presents a novel method to use a 2M5R string to analyze a topological relationship without geometric matching. Spatial objects in a picture are projected in four or five region based on their MBR and split into some number of subobjects. The 2M5R string, defined in this paper, is produced from those subobjects and their spatial relationships. By using the 2M5R string, it is possible to analyze a topological relationship bet ween objects with small information. The analysis process is done by two steps. The first step refines candidate topological relationships by comparing the MBRs of objects. The second step decides a unique topological relationship by applying rules for candidate topological relationships to the 2M5R string. This method doesn't need geometric matching, therefore reduce the time to analyze a topological relationship.

‘웨섹스의 시인’ 하디 소고

이 논문은 토머스 하디 소설의 전원풍에 대한 재평가를 목표로 한다. 19세기 리얼리즘 소설 전통을 잇는 리얼리스트로 자리매김 되어 있는 하디이지만, 그가 영국에서 누리고 있는 대중적 인기에는 이른바 시골 향수(the rural nostalgia)에 근거한 특유의 전원풍이 적지 않은 역할을 한 것으로 보이기 때문이다. 이른바 ‘웨섹스의 시인’이란 하디의 별칭은 이를 압축적으로 보여주는데, 광란의 무리를 멀리 떠나 에 붙인 서문(1895)에서 하디는 웨섹스란 이름을 택한 배경을 설명하면서 특히 웨섹스의 자연과 지리, 민속과 전통의 소멸을 아쉬워하고 있음을 분명히 밝힌다. 하디 소설의 전원풍은 오독의 결과라거나 초기소설의 특징적 면모라기보다 작가의 핵심 집필 의도 속에 존재하고 있다고 보는 것이 옳다. 더욱이 이 문제가 리얼리즘 소설로서 하디 소설의 핵심 주제를 이루는 이른바 ‘중간계층’(the intermediate class)의 운명과 밀접하게 연결되어 있다는 점에서 전원풍은 하디 소설의 본령에 속해 있다고 판단할 수 있다. 아울러 당대 부상하던 문학사조로서 사실주의에 대한 하디의 비판적 태도 역시 그의 소설에 재현된 전원풍을 우호적으로 평가하는 데 일정한 도움을 준다. This paper attempts to reappraise the pastoral mode in Thomas Hardy’s fiction. It is true that he succeeded to the tradition of the 19^th century British realist fiction, but his popularity in Britain seems to have owed to the pastoral mode stemming from the rural nostalgia in the Wessex novels. His honorary epithet, ‘the poet of Wessex’, clearly demonstrates how he has been understood by the British reading public. In the author’s preface to Far from the Madding Crowd (1895 edition), Hardy strongly reveals his regret for the vanishing legend, folklore, close inter-social relations, and the attachment to the soil of one particular spot, which are supposed to compose the core elements of the so-called rural nostalgia. In conclusion, the pastoral mode did not result from misreading his novels, but was originally initiated by the author himself. Moreover it does also have much to do with the traditional realist understanding of Hardy the novelist, in that his heroes belong to ‘the intermediate class’, that is, the occupants who formed the backbone of the village life in Wessex. In addition Hardy’s critical attitude to the contemporary realism helps to reappraise his pastoral mode more favorably.

시뮬레이션과 군집 분석을 활용한 중소제약기업의 제품군 조정 사례 분석

This paper presents a case study to adjust the product group at ‘an SME (small and medium size enterprise) pharmaceutical company’. The company produces an excessive amount of different products using its maximum capacity, which causes inefficiency. Considering the fact that the company is growing fast, it needs to adjust its product group by removing inefficient products. In order to help the company, we carried out simulation to find out bottleneck process and after that we also conducted hierarchical clustering analysis to figure out which product causes inefficiency most severely, using three indicators consisting of the bottleneck contribution, sales, and contribution margins. Applying the ExtendSim simulation with the clustering analysis result, we substituted ‘better (i.e., causing less inefficiency) products’for the problematic ones and observed the increases in the sales and profits at the company in various scenarios. The paper shows how we can derive managerial implications useful for the SME’s production planning from these approaches.
