Pathological findings of natural cases of rabbit hemorrhagic disease was investigated. Clinically inappentence, increase in body temperature, depression, bloody foam from nostrils, and sudden death were recognized. Characteristic anatomical findings were hemorrhages in the lungs, liver, kidneys, and heart. Intestinal catarrh nd retention of turbid urine in urinary bladder were also often observed. Severe necrosis of hepatic cells, massive hemorrhages in many organs and membranous glomerulonephritis with hyaline droplet formation were characteristic changes under the microscopy. Perivascular cuffing of brain and catarrhal enteritis were also seen in many cases.

The persent investigation was focussed on the observations of the gross lesions of 30 pigs naturally infected with hog cholera from two cases. The gross lesions of 27 pigs in case No. 1 were pneumonic ecchymosis(77.7%), pneumonia(48.1%). renal petechiation(44.4%), cystic petechiation(44.4%). hemorrhage of larynx and epiglottis(40.7%). large intestinal hemorrhage(37.0%), splenic infarction(37.0%), peripheral hemorrhage of lymph nodes (29.6%), epicardial hemorrhage(25.9%), gastritis-hemorrhage(18.5%), colitis and cecitis(18.5%), small intestinal hemorrhage(14.8%), exudative conjunctivitis(11.1%), erythema(11.1%). subcutaneous hemorrhage(11.1%), diffsue hemorrhage of lymph nodes(7.4%), hemorrhage of tonsil(7.4%) and hydrothorax (3.7%).

This study was taken to clarify the histopathological changes of pigs naturally infected with hog cholera. Microscopic observations of the necrotic lesion and inclusion body in the lymphoid organs were carried out in the natural cases of hog cholera and experimental cases inoculated with ALD virus and isolated virus strains. Electron microscopic findings of the intranuclear inclusion bodies in the reticular cell of spleen and lymph node were also observed in the experimental cases. The results obtained are as follow, As the histological findings necrosis of lymphoid organs was observed mainly in the lymph follicle. The necrotic lymphoid organs were found to contain 35.0% in the natural and 37.5% in the experimental cases. Intranuclear inclusion bodies were found mainly in the reticular cells of lymphoid organ, the epithelium of bronchiole and alevolus, and the vascular endothelium of brain. These inclusion bodies were seen in 40.0% of the natural cases and all of the experiment. The inclusion body was appeared to compose of activated nucleoli and chromatin granules (interchromatin and perichromatin) by electron microscopy.
Hog Cholera 병돈(病豚)의 뇌(腦) 및 임파장기(淋巴臟器)에 관한 병리조직학적(病理組織學的) 연구(硏究) I. 임상(臨床) 및 병리해부학적(病理解剖學的) 관찰(觀察)

This study was taken to clarify the clinical signs and macroscopical lesions of pigs naturally infected with hog cholera. The clinical and macroscopical observation on the natural cases of hog cholera and experimental cases inoculated with ALD Virus and isolated virus strains were carried out. The results obtained are as follow; In clinical inspection of the natural cases, diarrhea (73.1%) blotching of ear (50.0%), staggering (42.3%), erythema of skin (40.0%), constipation (38.5%), conjunctivitis (32.7%) and dyspnea (30.8%) were observed. Dyspnea, constipation and erythema of skin were observed mainly in the experimental cases, however, staggering and conjunctivitis in pigs infected with ALD virus were found and convulsion and hemorrhage of skin of pigs infected with isolated virus were seen, respectively. The gross lesions of natural cases were hemorrhage of lymph node (82.5%), enteritis and hemorrhage of large intestine (65.0%), splenic infarction (57.5%), pneumonia (55.0%), gastritis and hemorrhage (52.5%), cardiac hemorrhage (40.0%) and renal petechiation (37.5%), while in the experimental cases, hemorrhage of lymph node, pneumonia, gastritis and hemorrhage, enteritis and hemorrhage of laryge intestine and splenic infarction were seen mainly.

This paper dealt with histopathological observations of the nephroblastoma in the pregnant pig died on 8 days before paturation day. The results summarized as follows: Authors considered that in necropsy finding the pregnant pig died of circulative and respiratory disturbance by compression of fetus and renal tumor weighing about 12Kg. In microscopical findings of the renal tumor it was composed of well differentiated tumor cells and connective tissue elements. As differentiation of the neoplastic epithelial cells progressed, tubular and cystic structures, and papillary structures resembled to glomeruli appeared. This tumor was regarded as nephrohlastoma.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of superovulation on the growing and mature follicles following gonadotrophin treatments in mature rat by immunohistochemical methods. Eighteen mature rats (Sprague-Duwely, 190~230gm) were randomly alloted into 3 groups. One group was control group, another FSH-treated group was injected intramuscularly with 0.5 units of follicular stimulating hormone(FSH) / rat, and third PMS and HCG-treated group was injected intramuscularly with 20~25IU of pregnant mare serum(PMS) / rat and then at the 48 hrs later, with 20~25IU of human chorionic gonadotropin(HCG) / rat. Half the number of rats were administrated intraperitoneally with bromodeoxyuridine(Brdur, 0.2mg/gm BW once) at 2 hours before exanguination and the remainder of rats were sacrified without Brdur administration. The investigation by immunohistochemical methods using paraffin sections of ovaries was performed by using anti-Brdur antibody and PCNA(proliferating cell nuclear antigen) antibody for labeling proliferating cells in follicles. In immunohistochemical findings, follicles squeezed by peripheral corpus luteum or follicles large follicles with loosly and irregularly distributed granulosa cells and although with compacted granulosa cells, middle follicles with dilated round or oval follicular antrum were confirmed as atretic follicles. The proportions of atretic follicles in control group were 29.8%, 21.7% and 14.2% respectivley at large, middle and small follicles and mean proportions of these all 3 grade follicles were 26.7%. The proportions of atretic follicles in FSH-treated group were 35.4%, 24.9% and 10.4% respectively at large, middle and small follicles and mean proportions of these all 3 grade follicles were 28.1%. The proportions of atretic follicles in PMS and HCG-treated group were 44.7%, 24.0% and 12.7% respectively at large, middle and small follicles, and mean proportions of these all 3 grade follicles were 29.7%. The above findings reveal that the group with higher proportion of atretic follicles were ordered as large, middle and small follicles in size, and these proportions were increased in hormone treated two groups with more number of more growing and mature follicles when compared with control group.

The turnover time of the mucosal epithelium in the small intestine(jejunum and ilium) and large interstine(cecum), and the cells in the lamina propria of the small intestine was investigated with the radioautography in mice at various times after single injection of $^3H$-thymidine. Twenty suckling mice were sacrified at each of the following time intervals after injection ; 2 hrs, 1, 3, 5. 7, 14 and 17 days. 1. The labeled index of the epithelial cells in the crypt and the villus of the small intestine averaged 98.7% and 1.3% at 2 hrs, 982% and 1.8% at 1 day, 18.7% and 81.3% at 3 days, 6.3% and 93.7% at 5 days, respectively. The labeled index of the epithelial cells of the crypt-base, the upper-crypt and the mucosal surface in the large intestine averaged 71.8%, 28.2% and 0% at 2 hrs, 45%. 54.2% and 0% at 1 day, 17.2%, 54.5% and 28.2% at 3 days, 10.2%, 32.4% and 57.4% at 5 days, respectively. This result suggested that the turnover time of all the epithelial cells migrating from crypts to villi in the direction of the villus tips was calculated to be less than 5 days, and also the longest turnover time was calculated to be no longer than 7 day. 2. The labeled index of the total cells in the lamina propria of the small intestine averaged 6.2-7% at 2 hrs to 5 days, 4.7% at 7 days 2.6% at 17 days and this index is tend to be decreased moderately at 7 days and severely at 17 days. So this result suggested that the turnover time of the cells with the shorter cycle duration in the lamina propria of the small intestine were less than 5 days and that of the cells with the longer cycle duration more than 17 days.

This study was undertaken to clarify the histopathological changes of pigs naturally infected with hog cholera. Microscopic observations of the brain as well as clinical observations were carried out for the naturally and experimentally infected pigs with hog cholera viruses. Electron microscopically the vascular cuffings of the brain were also observed in the experiment. In addition, clinical and pathological studios were carried out in the rabbits inoculated with ALD, lapinized and isolated strain of hog cholera virus, respectively. The results obtained are as follows; Vascular cuffing of the brain was observed in about 97% of the natural cases and all of the experimental cases. Among the 496 cuffed blood vessels of natural cases, intramural cuffing (82.9%), intramural and perivascular cuffing (11.9%) and perivascular cuffing (5.2%) were seen, respectively. Electron microscopic findings on cuffed blood vessels of the brain were endothelial cellular degeneration, intramural separation and vacuolation, perivascular vacuolation and infiltration of pleomorphic lymphoid cells. In the rabbits dosed with tissue suspension of the lymphoid organs and isolated hog cholera virus, high body temperature and vascular cuffing of the brain were observed, meanwhile these changes were more significant in pre-injected cased with indian ink.
