      • Exosomal Proteins in the Aqueous Humor as Novel Biomarkers in Patients with Neovascular Age-related Macular Degeneration

        <P>Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) describes the progressive degeneration of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), retina, and choriocapillaris and is the leading cause of blindness in people over 50. The molecular mechanisms underlying this multifactorial disease remain largely unknown. To uncover novel secretory biomarkers related to the pathogenesis of AMD, we adopted an integrated approach to compare the proteins identified in the conditioned medium (CM) of cultured RPE cells and the exosomes derived from CM and from the aqueous humor (AH) of AMD patients by LC–ESI–MS/MS. Finally, LC–MRM was performed on the AH from patients and controls, which revealed that cathepsin D, cytokeratin 8, and four other proteins increased in the AH of AMD patients. The present study has identified potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for AMD treatment, such as proteins related to the autophagy–lysosomal pathway and epithelial–mesenchymal transition, and demonstrated a novel and effective approach to identifying AMD-associated proteins that might be secreted by RPE in vivo in the form of exosomes.         Effects of Abdominal Massage for Preventing Acute Postoperative Constipation in Hip Fractures: A Prospective Interventional Study

        Background: This prospective randomized controlled study aimed to determine the effects of abdominal massage on constipation management in elderly patients with hip fractures. Methods: From August 2017 to December 2018, patients aged above 65 years with hip fractures (n = 88) were randomly assigned to a massage group that received a bowel massage (n = 48) or a control group that did not receive a bowel massage (n = 40). Patients in the bowel massage group received a bowel massage from a trained caregiver after breakfast at approximately 9:00 AM for an hour. On admission, 5 days after surgery, and on the day of discharge, the patient’s normal and actual defecation pattern, stool consistency, and any problems with defecation were assessed through a structured interview. The questionnaire comprising the Bristol Stool Scale, patient assessment of constipation, time to defecation, medication for defecations, failure to defecate, cause of admission, admission period, and date of surgery were recorded. Statistical analyses were performed 5 days after surgery and on the day of discharge. Results: The mean age of the study cohort was 81.4 years (range, 65–99 years). The number of constipation remedies was significantly lower in the massage group than in the control group on postoperative day (POD) 5 and at discharge (9 vs. 15, p = 0.049 and 6 vs. 11, p = 0.039, respectively). The number of defecation failures was significantly lower in the massage group than in the control group (10 vs. 17, p = 0.028) on POD 5. However, the number of defecation failures at discharge was not significantly different between the two groups (p = 0.131). The development of postoperative ileus (p = 0.271) and length of hospital stay (p = 0.576) were not different between the groups. Conclusions: The number of constipation remedies was significantly lower in the massage group than in the control group on POD 5 and discharge, and the number of defecation failures was significantly lower in the massage group than in the control group on POD 5. Therefore, abdominal massage may be considered as an independent nursing initiative for constipation management.

        시설재배논에 석탄회 , 석고 , 패각시용이 토양화학성과 배추의 생육에 미치는 영향

        토양반응이 산성이고 칼슘함량이 낮은 식양질 논에서 토양개량제인 석탄회와 석고, 패각을 석탄회80, 패각4, 석탄회56+석고24, 석탄회40+석고24+패각0.8톤/㏊ 시용하여 시설 봄배추를 재배했을 때, 이들의 토양개량 및 작물중수 효과를 검토하였다. 전반적으로 석탄회, 석고, 패각 시용은 토양화학성을 개선하였다. 개량제 중 석탄회 단용구에서는 토양의 산도중화능이 우수하였고 유효인산과 치환성 칼리 및 붕소의 증가와 아연의 감소가 뚜렷하였다. 석탄회+석고+패각 혼용구에서는 토양산도의 중화와 함께 마그네슘의 증가와 철, 망간의 감소가 뚜렷하였다. 배추 수확기 토양에서의 세균수/진균수와 (세균수+방선균수)/진균수 비는 석탄회 단용구에서 가장 높았다. 그리고, 개량제시용에 따른 배추의 생육은 초기에만 알카리장해로 부진하였고 중기 이후에는 대조구와 달리 칼슘결핍 없이 증수된 경향이었다. 처리별 증수효과는 대조구 수량 135.3t/㏊을 기준으로 석탄회+석고+패각 혼용구에서 23%, 석탄회+석고 혼용구에서 21%, 석탄회 단용구에서 19%, 패각 단용구에서 18%였다. 수확된 배추체내 N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, B, 환원당, 비타민-C는 석탄회 단용구와 석탄회+석고+패각 혼용구에서 높았다. In order to evaluate the utility of bituminous coal fly ash, gypsum, oyster shell as soil amendments, aadic clayloam paddy soils with low calaum content were amended in the upper 15㎝ with amendments, and then Chinese cabbage was cultivated under plastic film house. Amendments treated were, in metric tons per hectare, i) none(Check) ; ii) 80 fly ash(FA) ; iii) 4 shell(SH) ; iv) 56 fly ash+24 gypsum (FG) ; v) 40 fly ash+24 gypsum+0.8 shell(FGS). On the whole, soil chemical properties were improved by amendments treatments. Amongst treatments, FA prominently neutralized soil pH and increased contents of Av. P₂O_5, Ex. K, and Av. B in soils. Besides, it showed the highest ratio in bacteria/fungi and (bacteria+actinomycetes)/fungi. FGS also affected the neutralization of soil pH and the increment of Ex. Mg. Amendments plants appeared alkaline damages only at early growing stage, but showed positive responses in fresh weight yields : 23% for FGS : 21% for FG : 19% for FA ; 18% for SH. At harvesting, leaves both of FA and FGS plants had higher values in contents of N, P, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zn, B, reduang-sugar, and vitamin-C than of others. In especial, Check plants appeared the heart rot symptoms owing to calaum defiaency differently from amendments plants. Taken together, FGS was an effective combination enable to maximize the utility of fly ash, gypsum, shell as soil amendments, espeaally in cabbage yield and quality.

        Impacts of Cropping Systems on the Distribution of Soil Microorganisms in Mid-mountainous Paddy

        Soil microbes are widely well known to play an important role for sustainable agriculture in terms of crop healthy cultivation and environmental conservation. In this context, the distributional characteristics of soil microbes according to cropping systems were investigated under rice (R)-rice (R), rice (R)-barley (B)-rice (R), and soybean (S)-barley (B)-soybean (S) cropping condition to get basic informations for sustainable agriculture, where barley was grown for winter, in mid-mountainous loam paddy located at the altitude of 285 m above sea level in Sangju area from 2014 to 2015. Estimating from microbial communities by fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) method, a total biomass of bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi in R-B-R plot was 37% and 40% higher than that in S-B-S and R-R plots, respectively (p < 0.05). In especial, bacteria and fungi were more in R-B-R plot than those in any other ones. B. japonicum, AMF, and mesophilic Bacillus sp. were also greater in S-B-S plot than those. In the community distribution, however, bacteria and actinomycetes showed comparatively high values in S-B-S plot relative to either R-R or R-B-R plot including rice, in which fungi outstanding. In the correlation between microbial biomass and soil properties changed by the cropping, bacteria was positively correlated with C:N ratio; actinomycetes with exchangeable Ca; fungi with available P₂O5 (p < 0.05). While these microbes showed negative response to water stable aggregates of soil.

        산성토양에서 배추 생육과 품질에 대한 석탄회 , 석고 , 패각의 시용 잔효

        토양반응이 산성이고 붕소함량이 낮은 사양질 밭에서 토양개량제로 석탄회와 석고, 패각을 석탄회80, 패각4, 석탄회56+석고24, 석탄회40+석고24+패각0.8ton/㏊ 수준으로 시용하고 가을배추 재배에 이어서 2년차 봄배추를 재배하여 배추생육과 품질에 대한 시용잔효를 검토하였다. 개량제 시용에 따른 배추의 수확물은 대조구의 8.7ton/㏊을 기준으로 석탄회+석고+패각 혼용구에서 834%, 석탄회+석고 혼용구에서 786%, 석탄회 단용구에서 755%, 패각 단용구에서 193% 증가하였다. 수확된 배추체내 환원당과 비타민-C, 전질소 함량은 처리별 수량 성적 경향과 일치하였고 조섬유는 반대경향을 보였다. 또한 석탄회가 시용된 구에서는 개량제 무시용구 및 패각단용구를 달리 붕소결핍증이 없었고 유해 중금속의 식물체 잔류량이 감소되거나 자연함량 이하였다. 그리고, 이들 토양개량제를 상용할 경우에는 작물의 균형있는 양분흡수를 위해 3요소비료와 함께 마그네슘을 별도 시용하는 것이 바람직할 것으로 생각되었다. In order to evaluate the residual effects of bituminous coal fly ash, gypsum, oyster shell as soil amendments, Chinese cabbage was cultivated on acidic sandy loam soils with low boron content. The soils were amended in the upper 15㎝ with amendments in previous year and the growth and qualities of plants were analyzed. Amendments treated one year before were, in metric tons per hectare, i) none(Check) ; ii) 80 fly ash(FA) ; iii) 4 shell(SH) ; iv) 56 fly ash+24 gypsum(FG) ; v) 40 fly ash+24 gypsum+0.8 shell(FGS). Yield response in fresh weight of Chinese cabbage was in order of 834% for FGS$gt;780% for FG$gt;755% FA$gt;193% for SH plants. Reducing sugar, vitamin-C, and total nitrogen contents of leaves depending on treatments showed the same tendencies as that in yields, whereas crude fibre opposite to them. In particular, FA, FG, and FGS plants showed normal growth without both boron deficiency symptoms which appeared in Check and SH plants and possibilities of accumulation of heavy metals. In any soils treated with the above amendments, however, magnesium was insufficient.

      • Design of 90 GHz Band Radiometer System for Remote Sensing Applications

        The 92 GHz radiometer system, which will be used far an atmosphere remote sensing, is presented in this paper. The characteristics of RF and IF module are described. The architecture of radiometer including data acquisition, data storage and digital signal processing using notebook computer are explained and the result of indoor experiment is introduced. The radiometer system is designed as a total power type to obtain the high temperature sensitivity. The effect due to system instability can be removed by the computer compensated calibration method. The system noise figure and total gain of implemented radiometer are 12 dB and 56 dB, respectively. The short-term stability of 92 GHz radiometer is evaluated from the experiment. The difference of the radiometer output voltages for two targets, whose brightness temperature are 120 K and 300K, is about 40 mV.
