Dynamic stall is able to occur in high-speed forward flight and/or rapid maneuver of rotorcraft and limit the aerodynamic performance. Various flow control methods are exploited to mitigate such a flow phenomenon to enhance the performance of aircraft. In the current study, a high-speed pulsed jet is used to mitigate dynamic stall event. Multiple jets are applied to control critical events in dynamic stall of a pitching VR-12 airfoil under rotor-relevant flow conditions: Mach=0.3 and Re=2,600,000. A high-speed jet is generated impulsively from a combustion-powered actuator (COMPACT) module with measured pressure increment. It is observed that repetitive actuation can control not only the peak moment amplitude but also the aerodynamic forces in dynamic stall of a pitching airfoil.
