이 글의 목적은 북한이탈주민과 한국인의 집단적 경계 만들기 또는 은밀한 적대감을 분석하는 것이다. 북한이탈주민의 남한 사회정착 과정에서 문화적응 문제는 대단히 중요한 문제의 하나이다. 북한이탈주민의 남한 사회 정착은 북한이탈주민의 일방적인 적응의 문제로 접근하였다. 하지만 최근 들어 문화적 차이에 대한 이해 문제가 중요한 문제가 되고 있다. 남북한의 문화적 갈등이 생각보다 크고, 문화적 차이가 북한이탈주민의 정착에 큰 장애가 되기 때문이다. 북한이탈주민과 한국인의 문화적 갈등은 문화적 차이에 대한 편견에 그치지 않는다. 문화적 차이는 폭력적 현상과 연관된다, 북한이탈주민에 대한 배타적 인식, 경멸과 무시의 폭력적 시선, 북한이탈주민에 대한 보이지 않은 폭력에 대한 무감각 등의 현상으로 나타난다. 이러한 폭력성은 다시 북한이탈주민에 대한 부정적 시선을 형성하는 계기가 되고, 다시 폭력적인 현상으로 이어지는 악순환 고리를 형성한다. 북한이탈주민의 문화적응 과정에서 겪는 어려움에는 남한 주민의 잘못된 시각이 결정적이다. 북한에 대한 부정적 인식이 북한이탈주민에 대한 시선으로 옮겨진다. 북한에 대한 정보가 제한된 남한 주민들은 북한에 대한 인식을 그대로 북한이탈주민에게 전이(轉移)하거나 북한이탈주민 개개인의 특성을 무시하고 과도하게 일반화 한다. 북한이탈주민은 남한 주민의 부정적 시선으로부터 차이를 인식하고, 스스로의 정체성을 형성한다. 드러나지는 않지만 남북의 문화적 차이는 남한 사회 내에서도 새로운 적대감을 형성하고 있다. The aim of the paper is analyzing collective border building or secret enmity between North Korean defector and Korean. The issue of enculturation of North Korean defectors in South Korean society is one of the most important problems. Social settlement of North Korean defectors has been considered as unilateral adaptation issue. However, understanding cultural differences is becoming a major question recently, because cultural confliction between North and South Korea is larger than thought, and it has been a barrier to the settlement of North Korean defectors. The cultural confliction between North Korean defector and Korean is more than a prejudice. Cultural differences are related to violent phenomena. It appears as exclusive recognition towards North Korean defectors, abusive gaze of contempt and ignorance, insensibility to invisible violence towards North Korean defectors. Such violence forms negative attention to North Korean defectors again, leads more violent phenomena, and becomes a vicious circle. The wrong perspective of South Korean is crucial to difficulty of North Korean defectors during the enculturation process. Negative awareness on North Korea affects the perspective on North Korean defectors. South Koreans, who have only limited information about North Korea, project their perception of North Korea to North Korean defectors, or even overgeneralize North Korean defectors ignoring individual characteristics. North Korean defectors realize difference from negative gaze from South Korean and develop their own identities. It is invisible but cultural difference between North and South Korea forms new hostility in society of South Korea.
