        A NOVEL FUNCTIONAL MATERIAL OF Ag-S$i_3N_4$ NANOSTRUCTURED COMPOSITE

        $Ag-Si_3N_4$ nanostrutured composite has been investigated. The results show that it exhibits some novel properties such as strong piezpelectricity and high dielectricity. It can be constituted a battery using graphite and aluminum as the positive and the negative electrodes, respectively. The origins of these properties have been discussed.

      • Genetic Variants at 6p21.1 and 7p15.3 Identified by GWASs of Multiple Cancers and Ovarian Cancer Risk: a Case-control Study in Han Chinese Women

        A recent study summarized several published genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of cancer and reported two pleiotropic loci at 6p21.1 and 7p15.3 contributing to multiple cancers including lung cancer, noncardia gastric cancer (NCGC), and esophageal squamous-cell carcinoma (ESCC) in Han Chinese. However, it is not known whether such genetic variants have similar effects on the risk of gynecologic cancers, such as ovarian cancer. Hence, we explored associations between genetic variants in 6p21.1 and 7p15.3 and ovarian cancer risk in Han Chinese women. We performed an independent case-control study by genotyping the two loci (rs2494938 A > G at 6p21.1 and rs2285947 A > G at 7p15.3) in a total of 377 ovarian cancer cases and 1,034 cancer-free controls using TaqMan allelic discrimination assay. We found that rs2285947 at 7p15.3 was significantly associated with risk of ovarian cancer with per allele odds ratio (OR) of 1.33 [95% confidence interval (CI): 1.08-1.64, P=0.008]. However, no significant association was observed between rs2494938 and ovarian cancer risk. Our results showed that rs2285947 at 7p15.3 may also contribute to the development of ovarian cancer in Han Chinese women, further suggesting pleiotropy of 7p15.3 in multiple cancers.

      • Involvement of Arabidopsis HOS15 in histone deacetylation and cold tolerance.

        <P>Histone modification in chromatin is one of the key control points in gene regulation in eukaryotic cells. Protein complexes composed of histone acetyltransferase or deacetylase, WD40 repeat protein, and many other components have been implicated in this process. Here, we report the identification and functional characterization of HOS15, a WD40-repeat protein crucial for repression of genes associated with abiotic stress tolerance through histone deacetylation in Arabidopsis. HOS15 shares high sequence similarity with human transducin-beta like protein (TBL), a component of a repressor protein complex involved in histone deacetylation. Mutation of the HOS15 gene renders mutant plants hypersensitive to freezing temperatures. HOS15 is localized in the nucleus and specifically interacts with histone H4. The level of acetylated histone H4 is higher in the hos15 mutant than in WT plants. Moreover, the stress inducible RD29A promoter is hyperinduced and associated with a substantially higher level of acetylated histone H4 in the hos15 mutant under cold stress conditions. Our results suggest a critical role for gene activation/repression by histone acetylation/deacetylation in plant acclimation and tolerance to cold stress.</P>

        Performance Analysis of Multi-hop Wireless Networks under Different Hopping Strategies with Spatial Diversity

        This paper derives two main end-to-end performance metrics, namely the spatial capacity density and the average end-to-end delay of the multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks with multi-antenna communications. Based on the closed-form expressions of these performance metrics, three hopping strategies, i.e., the closest neighbor, the furthest neighbor and the randomly selected neighbor hopping strategies have been investigated. This formulation provides insights into the relations among node density, diversity gains, number of hops and some other network design parameters which jointly determine network performances, and a method of choosing the best hopping strategy which can be formulated from a network design perspective.

        송대(宋代)의 서원교육과 사인(士人) 사상의 통합

        송대 문화사에 중요한 문화 현상이 하나 있는데 그것이 바로 동시에 이루어진 서원과 理學의 흥기와 번영이었다. 정치의 가장자리에 처했던 이학가들은 그들의 문화중심의 입장을 견지하며, 개인적 교습이나 서원 교육의 방식을 통해 학술연구, 인재양성 및 학파구축 활동을 전개함으로써 송대 서원이 이학사상과 사서교육의 근거지가 되게끔 적극 노려하였다. 정치와 문화 두 가지 측면의 주체가 된다는 사대부집단의 요구를 만족시키기 위해, 이학가들은 “學以成聖”의 교육이념을 적극 추진하고 실천하였다. 문화교육에 이루어진 이학의 성공은 송대 士人들의 사상적 통합을 촉진시켰고 이학으로 하여금 점차 송대 사인들의 보편적 사상공식으로 되도록 하였다. In Song Dynasty's cultural history, there was an important cultural phenomenon and it was rising and flourishing of Seowon and Li studies at the same time.. Scholars of Li who were marginalized from the politics, having their own perspective focusing on culture and conducting personalized tutoring or Seowon education for researches, training students and establishing schools, tried to make Seowon in Song Era become the base for Li thought and education of Four Books. In order to satisfy scholar groups for becoming subjects in both perspectives of politics and culture, the scholars pursued and practiced the educational ideology of "Accomplishing the greatness through studies“(學以成聖)”. The success of Li studies promoted the ideological integration of Sain(士人) in Song Era, and made Li studies become a universal ideological agenda for them.

        Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Performances of SiCf Reinforced (Al3Ti + Al3Ni)-Based Metallic–Intermetallic Laminate Composite

        In present work, a novel SiCfreinforced (Al3Ti + Al3Ni)-based metallic–intermetallic laminate (Ti–(Al3Ti + Al3Ni)/SiCf-MIL) composite without centerline defect was prepared using Ti, Al foils, NiTi wires and SiC fibers by vacuum hot pressingsintering method. Electron backscatter diffraction was employed to characterize the microstructure and phase constituents ofTi–(Al3Ti + Al3Ni)/SiCf-MIL composite during various stages of preparation process. The elimination mechanism of intermetalliccenterline was discussed. Besides, quasi-static compressive performance and fracture toughness of the synthesizedcomposite were investigated. The experimental results indicated that as reaction time increasing, the NiTi/Al interfacialreaction occurred prior to the Ti/Al interfacial reaction to form an Al3Ti/Al3Ni zone. Then, the oxides gathered at the frontof Ti/Al interfacial reaction layer were dispersed in the intermetallic layer rather than being pushed together to generate thecenterline due to the Al3Ti/Al3Ni zone. After reaction, there were no residual NiTi phases and intermetallic layers mainlyconsisting of Al3Tiand Al3Niphases were obtained in this composite. In addition, high angle grain boundaries in Al3Tigrains occupied a large proportion, conversely, low angle grain boundaries dominated in Al3Nigrains. Furthermore, stressconcentration appears at the interface between layers instead of along the middle plane of intermetallic layer. Moreover,both compressive strength and fracture toughness of the composite are superior in comparison with SiCfreinforced Ti–Al3Timetallic–intermetallic laminate composite (Ti–Al3Ti/SiCf-MIL) ascribed to the elimination of centerline.

      • The Influence of Relative Humidity, Temperature, Insect Developmental Stages on the Susceptibility of Sweetpotato Whitefly to Conidia of Isaria javanica

        Bemisia tabaci, sweetpotato whitefly, has been recognized one of the most destructive insect pests worldwide because of increased resistance to some insecticide groups requiring alternative strategies for its control. We conducted a study of the influence of relative humidity, temperature and different developmental stages on the susceptibility of sweetpotato whitefly to conidia of Isaria javanica isolate, which had been reported high virulence against Q biotype of B. tabaci. The mortality of tobacco whitefly was low at low constant relative humidities, but was high when kept high humidity for first 24 hours and transferred to low humidity. The Isaria isolate had wide range of temperature (15℃ to 35℃) to control sweetpotato whitefly. The isolate has virulence to the egg and all developmental stages of nymph of B. tabaci. These results indicated that the isolate had good control effects at various environmental conditions and is an excellent candidate to develop a microbial pesticide to control sweetpotato whitefly.

        CO2 Adsorption on the B12N12 Nanocage Encapsulated with Alkali Metals: A Density Functional Study

        Density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been carried out to study the capacity of the B12N12 nanocage encapsulated with alkali metals (Li, Na, K) for the CO2 adsorption and activation. It is found that after encapsulating alkali metals, the alkali metal atoms are closer to one side of clusters instead of exactly lying at the center, and a considerable charge transfers from the inner alkali metal atoms to the B12N12 cage. Besides, the HOMO–LUMO gap (HLG) values of Li@B12N12, Na@B12N12 and K@B12N12 are decreased to about 6 eV, being much smaller than that of the pristine B12N12. Although the geometry structure parameters and the energy differences of M06-2X are slightly different from the ones of ωB97X-D, some identical results of two kinds of functional can be obtained. CO2 can be adsorbed chemically and physically on majority bonds of all the clusters, except for some bonds with large change in bond length and bond indices. The encapsulation of alkali-metal atoms may enhance the physical and chemical adsorption of CO2 on the surface of the clusters, in which Na@B12N12 and K@B12N12 are the most powerful physical and chemical adsorbent for CO2, respectively.

        SYNTHESIS OF ULTRAFINE $Si_3N_4$ PARTICLES BY RF PLASMA CHEMICAL VAPOR DEPOSITION

        Processing of synthesis $Si_3N_4$ UFP in the RFCVD reactor, using $SiCl_4$ and $NH_3$ as precursors, were experimentally researched. The influence of some operation parameters on the properties of products was investigaed. The nanostructured material made of such $Si_3N_4$ particles was fabricated under highpressure. The results of experiments indicated that it differed from the materials made of coarse $Si_3N_4$ powder on some electric properties.

        OGLE-2015-BLG-0479LA,B: BINARY GRAVITATIONAL MICROLENS CHARACTERIZED BY SIMULTANEOUS GROUND-BASED AND SPACE-BASED OBSERVATIONS

        <P>We present a combined analysis of the observations of the gravitational microlensing event OGLE-2015-BLG-0479 taken both from the ground and by the Spitzer Space Telescope. The light curves seen from the ground and from space exhibit a time offset of similar to 13 days between the caustic spikes, indicating that the relative lens-source positions seen from the two places are displaced by parallax effects. From modeling the light curves, we measure the space-based microlens parallax. Combined with the angular Einstein radius measured by analyzing the caustic crossings, we determine the mass and distance of the lens. We find that the lens is a binary composed of two G-type stars with masses of similar to 1.0 M-circle dot and similar to 0.9 M-circle dot located at a distance. of similar to 3 kpc. In addition, we are able to constrain the complete orbital parameters of the lens thanks to the precise measurement of the microlens parallax derived from the joint analysis. In contrast to the binary event OGLE-2014-BLG-1050, which was also observed by Spitzer, we find that the interpretation of OGLE-2015-BLG-0479 does not suffer from the degeneracy between (+/-, +/-) and (+/-, -/+) solutions, confirming that the four-fold parallax degeneracy in single-lens events collapses into the two-fold degeneracy for the general case of binary-lens events. The location of the blend in the color-magnitude diagram is consistent with the lens properties, suggesting that the blend is the lens itself. The blend is bright enough for spectroscopy and thus this possibility can be checked from future follow-up observations.</P>
