The Surgical Overcorrection of Lenke Type 1 Deformities with Selective Fusion Segments: What Happens to the Coronal Balance ?

        Yunus Atici,Sinan Erdogan,Yunus Emre Akman,Murat Mert,Engin Carkci,Tolga Tuzuner 대한척추신경외과학회 2016 Neurospine Vol.13 No.3

Purpose: The aim of our study is to determine the alterations on coronal balance after overcorrection of Lenke type 1 curve, retrospectively. Methods: Datas of 34 patients (29 female, 5 male patients; mean age, 16.3±3.3 years; range, 13-24 years) surgically treated for scoliosis between 2004 and 2010 were reviewed, retrospectively. The adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients with Lenke type 1 curve treated with only posterior pedicle screw and postoperative thoracic curves less than 10° by Cobb method on frontal plane were enrolled in this study. Mean follow-up period was 52.5±29.7 months. Results: The mean amount of the preoperative thoracic curves was measured as 41.2°±6.1° (range, 30°-56°). The mean amount of the early postoperative thoracic curves was measured as 6.5°±1.8° (range, 3°-9°). The mean amount of the thoracic curves was measured as 8.5°±4.6° (range, 3°-22°) during the last follow-up (p=0.01). The mean preoperative coronal balance was measured as 8.5mm(range, 1-30mm). The mean early postoperative coronal balance was measured as 3.5mm(range, 0-36 mm). The mean coronal balance was measured as 5.5mm(range, 0-38mm) during the last follow-up (p>0.05). Conclusion: We suggest that Lenke type 1B and 1C should be carefully evaluated and the fusion levels should be accurately selected in order to maintain the correction of coronal balance. We suggest that selective fusion with overcorrection in Lenke type 1A are applied to curves that can be corrected lumbar curve at the preoperative bending radiograph and curves that not have coronal decompensation and >10° distal junctional kyphosis, preoperatively.

Assessment of the increased calcification of the jaw bone with CT-Scan after dental implant placement

Yunus, Barunawaty Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2011 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.41 No.2

Purpose : This study was performed to evaluate the changes of jaw bone density around the dental implant after placement using computed tomography scan (CT-Scan). Materials and Methods : This retrospective study consisted of 30 patients who had lost 1 posterior tooth in maxilla or mandible and installed dental implant. The patients took CT-Scan before and after implant placement. Hounsfield Unit (HU) was measured around the implants and evaluated the difference of HU before and after implant installation. Results : The mean HU of jaw bone was 542.436 HU and 764.9 HU before and after implant placement, respectively (p<0.05). The means HUs for male were 632.3 HU and 932.2 HU and those for female 478.2 HU and 645.5 HU before and after implant placement, respectively (p<0.05). Also, the jaw bone with lower density needed longer period for implant procedure and the increased change of HU of jaw bone was less in the cases which needed longer period for osseointegration. Conclusion : CT-Scan could be used to assess the change of bone density around dental implants. Bone density around dental implant was increased after placement. The increased rate of bone density could be determined by the quality of jaw bone before implant placement.

Effect of Glucose and Formic Acid on the Quality of Napiergrass Silage After Treatment With Urea

        Yunus, M.,Ohba, N.,Tobisa, M.,Shimojo, M.,Masuda, Y. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2001 Animal Bioscience Vol.14 No.2

Urea as a silage additive increases crude protein but reduces fermentation quality of silage by increasing pH and enhancing clostridial bacteria growth, especially in low sugar forages. Glucose and formic acid might be expected to compensate these defects caused by urea addition to grass silage. Thus, in this experiment urea formic acid or urea with glucose was applied to improve N content and the quality of napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum Schumach.) silage. The first growth of napiergrass was harvested at 85 days of age and about 700 g of the grass was ensiled in laboratory silos (1.0 liter polyethylene containers) for 2, 7, 14, and 30 days at room temperature ($28^{\circ}C$). The treatments were no additives (control), urea, urea+glucose or urea+formic acid. Urea was added before ensiling at 0.5% of fresh weight of napiergrass and glucose and formic acid were added at 1% of fresh weight, respectively. After opening the silo, pH, dry matter content (DM), contents on DM basis of total N (TN), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), lactic acid (LA), acetic acid (AA) and butyric acid (BA) were determined. The control at 30 days of fermentation showed 5.89 for pH with 13.8% for VBN/TN and 1.51% for AA. The addition of urea increased TN by about 1.5% units but decreased the fermentation quality by increasing pH from 5.89 to 6.86, increasing VBN/TN from 13.8% to 24.63%, increasing BA from 0.02% to 0.56%, and decreasing LA from 1.03% to 0.02%. Glucose addition with urea significantly decreased VBN/TN from 13.8% to 4.44% by reducing pH from 6.86 to 4.83 because of higher production of LA (2.62%). Adding urea and formic acid resulted in a more pronounced depression of VBN/TN and fermentation than the addition of urea and glucose. This study suggested that the combination of 1% glucose or 1% formic acid with 0.5% urea will improve nutritive value and fermentation quality of napiergrass silage.

Investigation of some fixed point theorems in hyperbolic spaces for a three step iteration process

        Yunus Atalan,Vatan Karakaya 강원경기수학회 2019 한국수학논문집 Vol.27 No.4

In the present paper, we investigate the convergence, equivalence of convergence, rate of convergence and data dependence results using a three step iteration process for mappings satisfying certain contractive condition in hyperbolic spaces. Also we give non-trivial examples for the rate of convergence and data dependence results to show effciency of three step iteration process. The results obtained in this paper may be interpreted as a refinement and improvement of the previously known results.

A New Radiological Sign for Severe Angular Kyphosis: “The Baltalimani Sign”

        Yunus Atici,Osman Emre Aycan,Muhammed Mert,Deniz Kargin,Akif Albayrak,Mehmet Bulent Balioglu 대한척추외과학회 2016 Asian Spine Journal Vol.10 No.6

Study Design: Retrospective diagnostic study. Purpose: To define a new radiological sign, “Baltalimani sign,” in severe angular kyphosis (SAK) and to report its relationship with the risk of neurological deficits and deformity severity. Overview of Literature: Baltalimani sign was previously undefined in the literature. Methods: We propose Baltalimani sign as the axial orientation of the vertebrae that are located above or below the apex of angular kyphosis on anteroposterior radiographs. Patients with SAK of various etiologies with kyphotic angles ≥90° were selected and evaluated for the presence of Baltalimani sign. Demographic data of the patients including age, gender, etiology, neurological status, local kyphosis angles, and the location of the kyphosis apex were recorded. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive values (NPV) of Baltalimani sign for the risk of the neurological deficits were evaluated by the IBM SPSS ver. 20.0. A p -values of <0.05 were considered statistically significant. Cohen’s kappa was used for analysis of interrater agreement. Results: The mean local kyphosis angle in all patients was 124.2° (range, 90°–169°), and 15 of 40 (37.5%) patients had neurological deficits. Baltalimani sign was seen in 13 of 15 patients with neurological deficits (p =0.001). Baltalimani sign showed a sensitivity and specificity PPV and NPV of 61.9%, 86.7%, 89.5%, and 68.8% for the risk of the neurological deficits in SAK patients, respectively. Cohen’s kappa value was moderate (κ=0.506). Conclusions: The detection of Baltalimani sign in SAK may indicate severity of deformity and the risk of neurological deficits.

Effects of Substituting Cottonseed Meal with Sunflower Meal in Rations for Growing Buffalo Calves

        Yunus, A.W.,Khan, A.G.,Alam, Z.,Sultan, J.I.,Riaz, M. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2004 Animal Bioscience Vol.17 No.5

A growth trial of 60 days with 16 male buffalo calves (10 to 11 months age; 100${\pm}$7 kg live weight mean) was conducted to investigate comparative efficacy of cottonseed meal (CSM) and sunflower meal (SFM). Cottonseed meal was substituted isonitrogenously with SFM at 0, 12, 24 and 36% levels in four rations viz. A, B, C and D. Daily feed consumption was 5.07, 4.30, 4.17 and 3.20 kg, while daily weight gain was recorded to be 0.98, 0.74, 0.57 and 0.33 kg under rations A, B, C and D, respectively. In the digestibility and nitrogen balance trial using eight calves, digestibility of organic matter was 63.2, 62.9, 62.1 and 61.7, respectively. Nitrogen retained as percent of intake did not differ significantly. Sunflower meal was purchased at half the price of CSM but economics of weight gain did not favor SFM inclusion in rations. Results suggested that SFM should not be fed to buffalo calves gaining more than 0.7 kg/day.

A preliminary phylogenetic analysis of ribbed-pine-borer (Rhagium inquisitor) based on mitochondrial COI sequences

        Yunus Emre Çakmak,Havva Kübra Soydabaş-Ayoub,Fevzi Uçkan 한국응용곤충학회 2020 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.23 No.3

The increased volume of intercontinental-trade had facilitated the distribution of species, including invaders. Wooden packaging materials, goods and timber are being transported via international ports in East of the Marmara Basin, where has vast forests. That forests provide an appropriate-mediator for the introduction and invasion of wood-boring insects, which are the most common group being transported between continents. One of them is Rhagium inquisitor, which has a pivotal role in wood decay, nevertheless, it is detrimental for industrial wood. We analyzed the 654 bp length of cytochrome c oxidase I (COI) gene, to determine native and introduced haplotypes of the ribbed-pine-borer, to investigate their phylogenetic relationships and possibly cryptic speciation of the morphospecies. It was found out that sixteen haplotypes were divided into five haplogroups. The groups were assembled on two main lineages: Eurasian and American. The genetic distance between the American (Groups 1–3), Asian (Group-4) and European (Group-5) clusters ranged from 3 to 10%; between haplotypes ranged from 0.2 to 10.9%. The distances between the specimens of the Marmara Basin (H9-12, Group-4) were lower compared to H16, which nested in Group-5. That haplotype was sampled on imported timber and was found out that it is shared between France, Germany, Italy, and Austria. Maximum Likelihood, Neighbor-Joining and Bayesian Inference trees showed the same topologies, and Median-Joining network also supported them. Contrary to the usual, our findings point out that some species might have been introduced from Europe to Asia. Furthermore, the high genetic diversity of the bark-runner between continents could be a sign of crypticallopatric speciation.

Improving Fermentation and Nutritive Quality of Napiergrass Silage by Mixing with Phasey Bean

        Yunus, M.,Ohba, N.,Tobisa, M.,Nakano, Y.,Shimojo, M.,Furuse, M.,Masuda, Y. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2001 Animal Bioscience Vol.14 No.7

To improve the low content of crude protein and low quality fermentation of napiergrass silage, ensiling with phasey bean was examined. Napiergrasses, (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Merkeron), hybrid napiergrass (Pennisetum purpureum${\times}$ Pennisetum typhoides) and phasey bean (Macroptilium lathyroides cv. Murray) were cultivated in Fukuoka, Japan. The first growth of napiergrasses and phasey bean were harvested at 90 days of age and chopped into about 1 cm lengths. The mixing levels of phasey bean with napiergrasses were 0, 25, 50 and 75; 700 g of plant materials were ensiled into a laboratory silo (1.0 litre. polyethylene container) and incubated for 30 days. After opening silos, pH, total nitrogen (TN), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) and organic acids (lactic acid: LA, acetic acid: AA, butyric acid: BA) were determined. The experiment was a factorial design of $2{\times}4$ with 3 replicates. The data were analyzed statistically by two-way analysis of variance. Without inclusion of phasey bean, lower quality was observed for hybrid silage than for Merkeron silage. The inclusion of phasey bean at the rate of 25% increased DM and TN, and decreased pH value, VBN/TN, AA and BA in both Merkeron and hybrid napiergrass silages. The value of pH, TN, VBN/TN, AA and BA were not significantly different among 25, 50 and 75% mixing levels of phasey bean. LA production increased significantly with the increase in phasey bean mixing level in both hybrid and Merkeron silages. At all mixing levels of phasey bean, LA production did not show significant differences between Merkeron and hybrid silages.

Effects of Preheated Additives on the Fermentation Quality of Napiergrass Silage

        Yunus, M.,Ohba, N.,Tobisa, M.,Shimojo, M.,Masuda, Y. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2001 Animal Bioscience Vol.14 No.11

Hydrolysis of plant protein to non-protein nitrogen (N) or ammonia can reduce quality of silage crops. Heating or non-enzymatic browning is a treatment to inhibit this hydrolysis. This experiment was conducted to examine the effects of pre-heated soybean meal and molasses on the fermentation quality of napiergrass silage. The initial growth of napiergrass was harvested at 85 days of age and immediately chopped into about 1 cm length. About 700 g of the grass was ensiled into a laboratory silo (1.0 liter polyethylene container) and incubated for 30 days at room temperature ($28^{\circ}C$). No additives (control), molasses, soybean meal and molasses + soybean meal treatments were prepared. All additives were non-heated or heated in an oven at $150^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes before ensiling. Molasses was added at 3% on the fresh weight basis and soybean meal was added at 0.5% N, respectively. After opening the silo, pH, total nitrogen (TN), volatile basic nitrogen (VBN), lactic acid (LA), acetic acid (AA), butyric acid (BA) and dry matter (DM) contents were determined. The data were analyzed statistically by analysis of variance. Compared with control, molasses addition significantly decreased pH value, VBN/TN, AA and BA and increased LA production. Soybean meal addition significantly increased TN and VBN/TN of silage. Both molasses and soybean meal addition significantly reduced pH value, AA, and BA and increased DM and LA contents of silage. The heating of additives was only effective to reduce VBN/TN production compared with non-heated additives in soybean meal and soybean meal with molasses addition.
