Analysis of guide modes in vertical hot ring rolling and their effects on the ring’s dimensional precision using FE method

Xiaokai Wang,Lin Hua 대한기계학회 2011 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.25 No.3

In the vertical hot ring rolling (VHRR) process, roundness, outer radius, and width spread are three important indexes to the formed ring’s dimensional precision. In this paper, features of the guide modes of the VHRR process, such as single fixed guide mode (SFGM)and single follow-up guide mode (SFUGM), are analyzed to investigate their effects on the ring’s dimensional precision. The geometrical models of all the guide modes are then established and reliable three-dimensional coupled thermal-mechanical elastic-plastic FE models of the VHRR process are developed in ABAQUS/Explicit. Some key technologies, such as the guide roller’s motion control, are reasonably dealt with. The research results show that: (1) The roundness of the rings rolled by SFUGM is obviously superior to that of the ring rolled by SFGM. (2) With the same feed amount, the outer radius of the ring rolled by SFGM is always larger than that of the rings rolled by SFUGM. (3) During the rolling process of the ring rolled by SFGM, severe eccentricity will exist at the ring’s center, which is not obvious in the rolling process of the ring rolled by SFUGM. (4) The average value of width spread of the ring rolled by SFGM is slightly larger than that of the rings rolled by SFUGM. The research results can yield an understanding of some phenomena in the VHRR process. The modeling methods presented in this paper have general significance in the study of the VHRR process of the ring with complex profile.

Influence of gold species (AuCl4− and AuCl2−) on self-assembly of PS-<i>b</i>-P2VP in solutions and morphology of composite thin films fabricated at the air/liquid interfaces

        Zhao, Xingjuan,Wang, Qian,Zhang, Xiaokai,Lee, Yong-Ill,Liu, Hong-Guo The Royal Society of Chemistry 2016 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.18 No.3

<P>Composite thin films doped with Au species were fabricated at an air/liquid interface via a series of steps, including the mass transfer of polystyrene-b-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PS-b-P2VP) across the liquid/liquid interface between a DMF/CHCl3 solution and an aqueous solution containing either AuCl4(-) or AuCl2(-), self-assembly of PS-b-P2VP in a mixed DMF-water solution, and adsorption and further self-organization of the formed aggregates at the air/liquid interface. This is a new approach for fabricating composite polymer films and can be completed within a very short time. AuCl4- and AuCl2- ions were found to significantly influence the self-assembly behavior of the block copolymer and the morphologies of the composite films, leading to the formation of nanowire arrays and a foam structure at the air/liquid interface, respectively, which originated from rod-like micelles and microcapsules that had formed in the respective solutions. The effect of the metal complex was analyzed based on the packing parameters of the amphiphilic polymer molecules in different microenvironments and the interactions between the pyridine groups and the metal chloride anions. In addition, these composite thin films exhibited stable and durable performance as heterogeneous catalysts for the hydrogenation of nitroaromatics in aqueous solutions.</P>

Coupling method of magnetic memory and eddy current nondestructive testing for retired crankshafts

        Chen Ni,Lin Hua,Xiaokai Wang,Zhou Wang,Xunpeng Qin,Zhou Fang 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.7

To verify the validity of the Coupling method of magnetic memory and eddy current (CMMEC) testing for crankshafts, we use this technique to test a 12-cylinder V-design diesel crankshaft. First, the stress distribution in the crankshaft was obtained under 12 working conditions using a Finite element (FE) model that complied with the commercial FE code ABAQUS. Second, Magnetic memory testing (MMT) and Eddy current testing (ECT) were adopted to detect the regions of stress concentration in the crankshaft and the specific location of cracks based on simulation results. Lastly, magnetic particle testing was conducted to detect and display the corresponding crack to verify the CMMEC testing results. The MMT and ECT results can provide basis and guidance for the remanufacture and life evaluation of retired crankshafts.

Numerical and experimental method for the prediction of the propagation life of fatigue crack on metallic materials

        Chen Ni,Lin Hua,Xiaokai Wang,Zhou Wang,Zhikui Ma 대한기계학회 2018 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.32 No.9

A prediction method for the propagation life of fatigue crack for cracked components was provided and verified in this study to predict the propagation life of fatigue cracks on components in engineering applications conveniently and directly. In the simulation aspect, a finite element (FE) model of cracked specimen was created to obtain the stress intensity factor range ΔK. The FE model was verified by comparing simulated ΔK to a formulary calculated one. The simulated ΔK could be used for studying the relationship with crack size. In the experimental aspect, the fatigue crack propagation test was conducted on three specimens. The material coefficients C and m were fitted according to Paris’ law. The load cycles with different crack depths were recorded in the testing process. The propagation life of fatigue cracks of specimen was predicted via the relationship between ΔK and crack size a according to Paris’ law. The comparison between predicted life and experimental life of specimens indicated the feasibility of the method. The proposed prediction method in this study for the propagation life of fatigue cracks can be used in engineering applications.

Specific Mutations in APC, with Prognostic Implications in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

        Huan Peng,Jun Ying,Jia Zang,Hao Lu,Xiaokai Zhao,Pengmin Yang,Xintao Wang,Jieyi Li,Ziying Gong,Daoyun Zhang,Zhiguo Wang 대한암학회 2023 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.55 No.4

Purpose Loss-of-function mutations in the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene are common in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). However, the characteristic of APC specific mutations in mCRC is poorly understood. Here, we explored the clinical and molecular characteristics of N-terminal and C-terminal side APC mutations in Chinese patients with mCRC. Materials and Methods Hybrid capture-based next-generation sequencing was performed on tumor tissues from 275 mCRC pati-ents to detect mutations in 639 tumor-associated genes. The prognostic value and gene-pathway difference between APC specific mutations in mCRC patients were analyzed. Results APC mutations were highly clustered, accounting for 73% of all mCRC patients, and most of them were truncating mutations. The tumor mutation burden of the N-terminal side APC mutations group (n=76) was significantly lower than that of the C-terminal side group (n=123) (p < 0.001), further confirmed by the public database. Survival analysis showed that mCRC patients with N-terminus side APC mutations had longer overall survival than C-terminus side. Tumor gene pathway analysis showed that gene mutations in the RTK/RAS, Wnt and transforming growth factor β signaling pathways of the C-terminal group were significantly higher than those of the N-terminal group (p < 0.05). Additionally, KRAS, AMER1, TGFBR2, and ARID1A driver mutations were more common in patients with C-terminal side APC mutations. Conclusion APC specific mutations have potential function as mCRC prognostic biomarkers. There are obvious differences in the gene mutation patterns between the C-terminus and N-terminus APC mutations group, which may have certain guiding significance for the subsequent precise treatment of mCRC.
