<P>MicroRNAs (miRNAs) constitute a class of small noncoding RNAs that play important roles in a variety of biological processes including development, apoptosis, proliferation, and differentiation. Here we show that the expression of miR-199a and miR-199a* (miR-199a/a*), which are processed from the same precursor, is confined to fibroblast cells among cultured cell lines. The fibroblast-specific expression pattern correlated well with methylation patterns: gene loci on chromosome 1 and 19 were fully methylated in all examined cell lines but unmethylated in fibroblasts. Transfection of miR-199a and/or -199a* mimetics into several cancer cell lines caused prominent apoptosis with miR-199a* being more pro-apoptotic. The mechanism underlying apoptosis induced by miR-199a was caspase-dependent, whereas a caspase-independent pathway was involved in apoptosis induced by miR-199a* in A549 cells. By employing microarray and immunoblotting analyses, we identified the MET proto-oncogene as a target of miR-199a*. Studies with a luciferase reporter fused to the 3'-untranslated region of the MET gene demonstrated miR-199a*-mediated down-regulation of luciferase activity through a binding site of miR-199a*. Interestingly, extracellular signal-regulated kinase 2 (ERK2) was also down-regulated by miR-199a*. Coordinated down-regulation of both MET and its downstream effector ERK2 by miR-199a* may be effective in inhibiting not only cell proliferation but also motility and invasive capabilities of tumor cells.</P>
Changes in periodontium after extraction of a periodontally-involved tooth in rats

Purpose: Recent interest has focused on intentional replantation to restore an original tooth. Some studies have shown successful results with intentional replantation for periodontally involved teeth. For long-term success of replantation, a healthy periodontal status of the recipient site is required so that delayed replantation is more suitable for periodontally involved teeth. To reveal the ideal timing for delayed replantation of periodontally involved teeth, the healing process of extraction sockets after extraction of periodontitis-induced teeth in rats was evaluated. Methods: Twenty-eight rats were randomly divided into two groups: a control group (n=8) and test group (n=20). In the test group, periodontitis was induced by a ligature around the cervix of the mandibular first molar of all of the rats. Two weeks later, the mandibular first molars were extracted in all of the animals. The animals were sacrificed on days 0, 3, 7, and 10 after extraction and histological and immunohistochemical analysis was performed. Results: In histological analysis of the test group, inflammatory cell infiltrate was found abundantly in the remaining periodontium 3 days after tooth extraction and decreased gradually at later time points. In immunohistochemical analysis of the test group, both interleukin-6 (IL-6) and, tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$) were numerous in the furcation area at each postextraction day. IL-6 was stained more heavily between 3 and 7 days after extraction; at day 10 after extraction, little staining was observed. TNF-${\alpha}$ staining was more intense at 3 days after extraction and gradually weakened at later points in time. Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, it takes at least 10 days to resolve periodontal inflammation in rat extraction sockets.
Diversity of Culturable Bacteria Associated with Hard Coral from the Antarctic Ross Sea

The bacterial diversity of an Antarctic hard coral, Errina fissurata, was examined by isolating bacterial colonies from crushed coral tissue and by sequencing their 16S rRNA gene. From the analyzed results, the bacteria were classified as Actinobacteria (56%), Firmicutes (35%) and Proteobacteria (9%). The thirty-four isolates were cultured in liquid media at different temperatures and their growth was assessed over time. The majority of the isolates displayed their highest growth rate at 25℃ during the first three days of cultivation, even though the coral was from a cold environment. Nevertheless, strains showing their highest growth rate at low temperatures (15℃ and 4℃) were also found. This study reports the composition of an Antarctic hard coral-associated culturable bacterial community and their growth behavior at different temperatures.

N/A Hyper-eutectic Al-Si alloy is used much to automatic parts and material for the electronic parts because of the low coefficient of thermal expansion, superior thermal stability and superior wear resistance. In this work, A390 alloy specimens were fabricated for control of the Si particle size by various processes, such as spray-casting, permanent mold-casting and squeeze-casting. To minimize the effect of microporosity of the specimen, hot extrusion was carried out under equal condition. Each specimens were evaluated tensile properties at room temperature and thermal expansion properties in the range from room temperature to 400℃. Ultimate tensile strength and elongation of the spray-cast and extruded specimens which have fine and well distributed Si particles were improved greatly compare to the permanent mold-cast and extruded ones. Specimens which have finer Si particles showed higher ultimate tensile strength and elongation than those having large Si particle size, and coefficient of thermal expansion of the specimens increased linearly with Si particle size. In case of the repeated high temperature exposures, thermal expansion properties of the spray-cast and extruded specimens were found to be more stable than those of the others due to the effect of fine and well distributed Si particles.

본 연구는 SSR 마커를 이용하여 차나무에 대한 효율적인 품종 판별 체계를 확립하고 품종 간 유전적 관계를 바탕으로 교배육종의 기초자료로 활용하기 위하여 수행하였다. 국내 육성 10개 품종과 일본 품종 6개 및아샘 대엽 계통의 1개 등 총 17개 품종을 대상으로 차나무에서 다형성이 보고된 45개 SSR primer를 사용하여PCR을 수행하였다. 45개 SSR primer 중 PCR 증폭이 뚜렷하고 다형성이 분명하게 나타나는 23개를 선발하였다. PowerMarker V 3.25로 분석한 결과 유전자 수는 평균 2.5개, 유전자의 다양성은 평균 0.40, PIC 값은 평균 0.339, 유전적 거리는 0.11~0.59를 각각 나타내어 중간 수준의 다형성을 보였다. MEGA V 5.05로 유연관계를 분석한결과 품종들은 3개의 그룹으로 구분되었다. 그룹Ⅰ은 국내 품종 일부와 일본 품종이 포함되었으며 한국 품종과일본 품종 간 유전적 연관성이 높게 나타났다. 그룹Ⅱ는 유엽에서 붉은색을 나타내는 국내 품종과 Ai 37을 포함하고 있었다. 그룹Ⅲ은 제주에서 육성된 품종들로만 구성되었으며 다른 국내 육성 품종들과 기원 및 유래가 비슷하다고 알려진 것과는 차이가 있었다. SSR primer 45개로부터 선발된 23개 중 TM 068, MSG 0206, MSG 0699, KF 0643 등 단지 4개만을 사용하여 차나무 17개 품종을 모두 판별할 수 있었다. 본 연구 결과, 다양한 차나무의품종 판별에 이들 SSR primer들이 효율적으로 이용될 수 있음을 보여주었다. This study was conducted to establish an efficient cultivar discrimination system for tea plants by using SSR markers for use as basic data for crossbreeding based on the genetic relationships between cultivars. PCR was performed using 45 SSR primers with polymorphisms reported in tea plants, for a total of 17 cultivars, including 10 domestic cultivars, six Japanese cultivars, and one Assam cultivar. From among the 45 SSR primers, 23 were selected based on distinct amplification and clear polymorphism. Mean values in the number of alleles, gene diversity, PIC value, and genetic distance (analyzed with PowerMarker V 3.25) were 2.5, 0.40, 0.339, and 0.11–0.59, respectively, which shows an intermediate level of polymorphism. As a result of analyzing the genetic relationships with MEGA V 5.05, the cultivars of tea plants were divided into three groups. Group I includes some domestic and Japanese cultivars, and there is a high genetic association between Korean and Japanese cultivars. Group II includes domestic cultivars showing red color in the leaves and Ai 37. Group III consists of only cultivars grown in Jeju, which deviates from the perception that all domestic cultivars have similar origins. Of the 23 SSR primers selected from the original 45, by using only four (TM 068, MSG 0206, MSG 0699, and KF 0643), all 17 cultivars of tea plants can be identified. This study shows that these SSR primers can be used effectively to identify the cultivars of various tea plants.

게임에서 AI(Artificial Intelligence)는 게임의 재미요소와 가장 밀접한 부분이며, 대부분의 게임에 포함되어 있다. 그러나 단순한 AI패턴은 게임플레이에 지속성을 저하시키며 게임의 재미요소 하락시키는 원인이 되기도 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해, 2D 횡 스크롤 액션 게임으로 “아트록스”를 개발하여 게임의 흥미를 높일 수 있는 AI패턴을 연구하였다.
