A Treatment for Truncated Boundary in a Half-Space with 2-D Rayleigh Wave BEM

Analysis of two-dimensional Rayleigh wave scattering pattern by a surface defect is studied through modified boundary element method. BEM proposed in this paper has special treatment at each end of boundary which should have the Rayleigh wave go away without any generation of virtual reflections. It is shown that treatment for truncated boundary which is used to model two-dimensional Rayleigh waves" behavior in an elastic half-space is successfully implemented. To check numerical results" accuracy, time domain IFFT signal of the displacements is presented. Improvement on getting rid of unwanted influence of truncated boundary induced by 2-D Rayleigh waves on a flat surface of an elastic half-infinite medium is shown. As a final goal, the numerical results of Rayleigh wave scattering trend are plotted and they are compared with theoretical curves to prove its accuracy.

We examined the effects of synthetic signal peptides, wild-type (WT) and export-defective mutant (MT) of ribose-binding protein, on the conformational changes of signal recognition particle 54 homologue (Ffh) in Escherichia coli. Upon interaction of Ffh with WT peptide, the intrinsic Tyr fluorescence, the transition temperature of thermal unfolding, and the GTPase activity of Ffh decreased in a peptide concentration-dependent manner, while the emission intensity of 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid increased. In contrast, the secondary structure of the protein was not affected. Additionally, polarization of fluorescein-labeled WT increased upon association with Ffh. These results suggest that WT peptide induces the unfolded states of Ffh. The WT-mediated conformational change of Ffh was also revealed to be important in the interaction between SecA and Ffh. However, MT had marginal effect on these conformational changes suggesting that the in vivo functionality of signal peptide is important in the interaction with Ffh and concomitant structural change of the protein.

A cat who is a 15-year-old and spayed female visited an animal clinic with severe coughing symptoms. Since the cat’s coughing symptoms had worsened from the age of 10 and X-rays showed a bronchial pattern in the lungs, it was diagnosed as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). She received three injections of stem cells isolated from the amniotic membrane on days 0, 7, and 23. Although there was no improvement in the clinical findings on the x-ray, the number of coughing was significantly reduced. In addition, even after long-term follow-up post treatment for a month, she was stable with almost no coughing.
