We fortuitously observed a human neutrophil intracellular free-calcium concentration ($[Ca^{2+}]_i$) increasing activity in the commercially available phosphodiesterase I (PDE I), which is actually dried crude venom of Crotalus atrox. As this activity was not observed with another commercially available pure PDE I, we tried to find out the causative molecule(s) present in 'crude' PDE, and identified Lys49-phospholipase A2 (Lys49-PLA2 or K49-PLA2), a catalytically inactive protein which belongs to the phospholipase A2 family, by activity-driven three HPLC (reverse phase, size exclusion, reverse phase) steps followed by SDS-PAGE and LC-MS/MS. K49-PLA2 induced $Ca^{2+}$ influx in human neutrophils without any cytotoxic effect. Two calcium channel inhibitors, 2-aminoetoxydiphenyl borate (2-APB) ($30{\mu}M$) and SKF-96365 ($20{\mu}M$) significantly inhibited K49-PLA2-induced $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ increase. These results suggest that K49-PLA2 modulates $[Ca^{2+}]_i$ in human neutrophils via 2-APB- and SKF-96365-sensitive calcium channels without causing membrane disruption.
Dual-Band Double-Cylindrical-Ring 3D Frequency Selective Surface
Sultan Can,Emrullah Karakaya,Fulya Bagci,Asim Egemen Yilmaz,Baris Akaoglu 한국전자통신연구원 2017 ETRI Journal Vol.39 No.1
This study presents a dual-band 3D frequency selective surface that provides a large degree of freedom in frequency and bandwidth adjustability. The proposed structure is evaluated in terms of its structural parameters, and prototypes were fabricated. The radius of the copper rings and the height of the cylinders are considered, and are shown through full-wave electromagnetic simulations to have a significant effect on the frequency characteristics of the frequency selective surface. The measurement results of the fabricated samples are compared with the simulation results, and a satisfactory agreement was obtained.

In this paper, we derive exact explicit expressions for the triple and quadruple moments of the lower record values from inverse the Weibull (IW) distribution. Next, we present and calculate the coefficients of the best linear unbiased estimates of the location and scale parameters of IW distribution (BLUEs) for different choices of the shape parameter and records size. We then use the higher order moments and the calculated BLUEs to compute the mean, variance, and the coefficients of skewness and kurtosis of certain linear functions of lower record values. By using the coefficients of the skewness and kurtosis, we develop approximate confidence intervals for the location and scale parameters of the IW distribution using Edgeworth approximate values and then compare them with the corresponding intervals constructed through Monte Carlo simulations. Finally, we apply the findings of the paper to some simulated data.

We have done comparative morphological and chemotaxonomic studies to investigate the phylogenetic relationship of different accessions within the Podophyllum species. HPLC profiles revealed that all Podophyllum hexandrum accessions collected from different geographical locations are chemically highly diverse. Also, we have observed that chemotaxonomic studies clearly demonstrated that chemical characters of the Podophyllum hexandrum are suitable to generate essentially the same relationship as revealed by RAPD analysis.
Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia: a Single Center Study from Southern Pakistan
Sultan, Sadia,Irfan, Syed Mohammed,Ashar, Sana Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.17
Background: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a distinctive clinical, biological and molecular subtype of acute myeloid leukemia. However, data from Pakistan are scarce. Therefore we reviewed the demographic and clinical profile along with risk stratification of APL patients at our center. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross sectional study, 26 patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia were enrolled from January 2011 to June 2015. Data were analyzed with SPSS version 22. Results: The mean age was $31.8{\pm}1.68years$ with a median of 32 years. The female to male ratio was 2:1.2. The majority of our patients had hypergranular variant (65.4%) rather than the microgranular type. The major complaints were bleeding (80.7%), fever (76.9%), generalized weakness (30.7%) and dyspnea (15.38%). Physical examination revealed petechial rashes as a predominant finding detected in 61.5% followed by pallor in 30.8%. The mean hemoglobin was $8.04{\pm}2.29g/dl$ with the mean MCV of $84.7{\pm}7.72fl$. The mean total leukocyte count of $5.44{\pm}7.62{\times}10^9/l$; ANC of $1.08{\pm}2.98{\times}10^9/l$ and mean platelets count were $38.84{\pm}5.38{\times}10^9/l$. According to risk stratification, 15.3% were in high, 65.4% in intermediate and 19.2% in low risk groups. Conclusions: Clinico-epidemiological features of APL in Pakistani patients appear comparable to published data. Haemorrhagic diathesis is the commonest presentation. Risk stratification revealed predominance of intermediate risk disease.
Goodness-of-fit Test for Rayleigh Distribution
Sultan, K.S. The Korean Reliability Society 2007 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.8 No.1
In this paper, we use the moments of order statistics derived by Lieblein (1955) to develop the correlation goodness-of-fit test for the Rayleigh distribution. In such we simulate the percentage points of the test statistics for the one-parameter and two-parameter cases. In addition, we calculate the power of the proposed tests based on some alterative distributions. Finally, we apply the procedures developed in the paper to some real data.
ACCESSIBILITY INTEGRITY OF GRAPHS
SULTAN SENAN MAHDE,Veena Mathad,Ismail Naci CANGUL 장전수학회 2021 Advanced Studies in Contemporary Mathematics Vol.31 No.1
In this paper, the concept of accessibility integrity is intro- duced as a new measure of the stability of a graph G and it is dened as AI(G) = minfjSj + m(G - S)g; where S is an accessible set and m(G - S) is the order of a maximum component of G - S. First, the accessibility integrity of some graphs is obtained and the relations between accessibility integrity and other parameters are determined. Next AI-changing and AI-stable graphs are studied. The properties of AI-stellar and just AI-stellar graph are discussed. It is shown that the accessibility integrity is much stronger characteristic compared to the integrity in determining the stability of a graph. The effect of vertex deletion on the accessibility integrity of a graph is studied. Also a recent problem called the inverse problem is completely solved for the accessibility integrity of a graph by showing that there exists at least one graph with accessibility integrity equal to r for all integers r ≥ 4.
Proboscis lateralis: A case report of a rare giant craniofacial teratoma in an infant
Sultan Al-Shaqsi,Taimoor Al-Bulushi,Qasim Al-Hinai 대한성형외과학회 2018 Archives of Plastic Surgery Vol.45 No.6
Teratomas can occur in almost any region of the body and are the most common extragonadal germ cell childhood tumors. However, craniofacial teratomas are rare. Craniofacial teratomas can present unique features and cause significant functional and aesthetic concerns. There are complex lesions that can have components intra-cranially and extra-cranially. Therefore, their management requires significant multi-stage multidisciplinary surgical procedures. Herein, we present a case of craniofacial teratoma in a child with the phenotype of proboscis lateralis that highlights some of the pertinent point of the diagnosis and management of congenital neonatal teratomas.
