This study was conducted to investigate the biomechanical characteristics of the gait pattern in an amputee for the purpose of improving the proper gait posture and designing the prosthetic. The subjects were six males amputees and one normal person. The ground reaction force was measured using AMTI force platform. The conclusions were as follows; 1. In case of amputee group, the ground reaction force was revealed in specific figure according to position in which they used the prosthetic, whereas in case of normal person the ground reaction force was revealed in the figure of two humps in regard of vertical axis. 2. In case of amputee group, the ground reaction force in time between fight foot contact and left foot contact was deviated from a figure of rectangle, whereas in case of normal person the ground reaction force was revealed in the figure of rectangle. 3. In case of amputee group, the ground reaction force referred to both feet angle point of view was revealed in irregular figure, whereas in case of normal person the ground reaction force was revealed about 47。

This study was conducted to investigate wintering ecology and habitat using pattern of cranes for sound protection and management of the birds and their habitat near the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ) of Cheolwon, South Korea. Distribution of cranes seemed to be affected by road construction and human activity. Dried rice paddy was mainly habitat type of cranes in Cheolwon area. Gleaning was dominant behavior during day time. Ratio of alert was increased in afternoon. There was difference in time budget of behavior between red-crowned and white-naped cranes. For the stable wintering of cranes, minimum change of habitat, decrease of human disturbance and stable food maintenance would be needed in Cheolwon area.

For the studying of effects of matrine and azadirachtine against Aphidius colemani, it was conducted to test the toxic effect of ecofriendly materials. Matrine and azadirachtine are active ingredient of the most commonly used eco-friendly insecticidal materials against insect pests. The effects of materials are investigated by spraying solution to mummies and adults in laborartory condition (Temp: 25℃; 16L:8D; RH: 50-60%). Each materials was diluted and treated with 5 concentrations, 10 wasps for each replications and 3 replications for each concentration. Fitness of A. colemani was assessed by measuring survival rate, emergence rate, longevity and fecundity. Wasps adults were used for experiments within 48 hours after their hatching. Emergence rates were checked for 12 days after spray to mummies of A. colemani, and survival rates were checked at 24 and 48 hours after vial test for adult parasitoids with 10% sugar solution. Adult wasps were exposed to dry residue of material for 24 hours. Longevity was monitored every 12 hours and fecundity was measured by the number of mummies produced by A. colemani adults.

<P>We report edge-selective functionalization of graphite (EFG) for the production of large-area uniform graphene films by simply solution-casting EFG dispersions in dichloromethane on silicon oxide substrates, followed by annealing. The resultant graphene films show ambipolar transport properties with sheet resistances of 0.52–3.11 kΩ/sq at 63–90% optical transmittance. EFG allows solution processing methods for the scalable production of electrically conductive, optically transparent, and mechanically robust flexible graphene films for use in practice.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/ancac3/2011/ancac3.2011.5.issue-6/nn201072m/production/images/medium/nn-2011-01072m_0003.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nn201072m'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/nn201072m'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Nitrogen-enriched two-dimensional (2D) porous polybenzimidazole (2D-HPBI) network was synthesized from the reaction between 1,2,4,5-tetraaminobenzene (TAB) and benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylic acid (BTA) in polyphosphoric acid (PPA) medium. Interestingly, the remnant terminal groups such as amine and carboxyl groups at the periphery of 2D-HPBI were selectively stripped off by heat-treatment at 470°C. The resultant heat-treated 2D-HPBI (HT-HPBI) displayed substantially improved electrical conductivity and thus outstanding performance as the counter electrode (CE) for the cobalt reduction reaction (CRR) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The charge-transfer resistance (<I>R</I> ct=0.51Ωcm2) at the HT-HPBI-CE/electrolyte interface was even lower than that of Pt-CE (1.09Ωcm2). More importantly, HT-HPBI-based CE showed near “zero” loss of electrochemical stability (1/<I>R</I> ct) even after 1000 potential cycles, while the 1/<I>R</I> ct of Pt decreased to <10% that of a fresh cell.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Nitrogen-enriched two-dimensional (2D) porous polybenzimidazole (2D-HPBI) was synthesized. </LI> <LI> To enrich nitrogen content, the periphery groups of 2D-HPBI were selectively removed by heat-treatment. </LI> <LI> The heat-treated 2D-HPBI (HT-HPBI) displayed outstanding DSSC performance. </LI> <LI> HT-HPBI-based CE showed near “zero” loss of electrochemical stability after 1000 potential cycles. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>Heat-treated two-dimensional (2D) holey polybenzimidazole (HPBI) network, a nitrogen enriched network polymer, displayed outstanding electrocatalytic performance with almost “zero” loss of electrochemical stability even after 1000 potential CV cycles, while the Pt decreased to <10% that of a fresh cell for the cobalt reduction reaction (CRR) in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs).</P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

<P>The chemical analysis of a <I>Streptomyces</I> strain, from a Korean volcanic island, discovered new benz[<I>a</I>]anthracene dimers linked by a thioether bond. The structures of donghaesulfins A and B (<B>1</B> and <B>2</B>) were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis including energy-dispersive X-ray. Their configurations were determined by ROESY NMR data, DP4 calculations, the modified Mosher’s method, and ECD calculations. Donghaesulfins A (<B>1</B>) induced quinone reductase, whereas donghaesulfin B (<B>2</B>) displayed antiangiogenesis activity.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Thermoresistant (TR) clones of radiation-induced fibrosarcoma (RIF) cells have been reported to show an adaptive response to 1cGy of low dose radiation, and HSP25 and inducible HSP70 are involved in this process. In this study, to further elucidate the mechanism by which HSP25 and inducible HSP70 regulate the adaptive response, HSP25 or inducible HSP70 overexpressed RIF cells were irradiated with 1cGy and the cell cycle was analyzed. HSP25 or inducible HSP70 overexpressed cells together with TR cells showed increased G1 phase after 1cGy irradiation, while RIF cells did not. $[^3H]-Thymidine$ and BrdU incorporation also indicated that both HSP25 and inducible HSP70 are involved in G1 arrest after 1cGy irradiation. Molecular analysis revealed upregulation of p27Cip/Kip protein in HSP25 and inducible HSP70 overexpressed cells, and cotransfection of p27Cip/Kip antisense abolished the induction of the adaptive response and 1cGy-mediated G1 arrest. The above results indicate that induction of an adaptive response by HSP25 and inducible HSP70 is mediated by upregulation of p27Cip/Kip protein, resulting in low dose radiation-induced G1 arrest.
