        동·서양 고전에 나타난 도덕적 통념에 관한 비판적 해석 -『논어』와 『에우티프론』에 나타난 아버지를 고발한 아들의 사례를 중심으로-

        본 논문은 동서양의 고전 문헌에서 도덕적 통념에 관한 문제가 어떻게 다루어졌는지 고찰한 것이다. 이를 위해 『논어』에 나타난 `곧음(直)`에 관한 공자와 제자들의 대화, 『에우티프론』에 나타난 `경건함(?σιον)`에 관한 소크라테스와 에우티프론의 대화를 각각 분석하고, 그 철학적 함의를 검토하였다. 이를 통해 본 논문은, 공자와 소크라테스가 특정 도덕적 딜레마나 그것의 해결책 또는 특정 도덕관념에 대한 정의 자체에 관심이 있었다기보다, 독단적 자기 확신 또는 도덕적 통념에 관한 비판적 해석에 주안점을 두고 있었다는 것을 주장하였다. 결론적으로, 이들 철학자들은 아버지를 고발한 아들이라는 사례를 통해 우리의 삶에서 도덕적 믿음에 대한 반성적 태도가 중요함을 강조하며, 그 과정은 타자와의 대화를 수반한다는 점을 보여주고자 한 것이라 볼 수 있다. The aim of this study is to examine an issue of moral beliefs and moral conceptions in the Eastern and Western Classics. This paper focuses on the texts with one specific common material. That is the son who accused the father in the Analects(Lunyu) and the Plato`s Euthyphron. Confucius has a conversation with his follower about `Zhi(直)` and Socrates makes dialectical arguments with Euthyphron about a definition of `piety(to hosion)`. The philosophers critically examine opinions of the opposing parties to support the accusation. Other papers studied on aspects of moral dilemma(the private or the public, Physis and Nomos) or relation of religion and philosophy. But the important problem is relation between rightness(or justice) and honesty. In conclusion, this paper illuminates that the philosophers emphasize personal moral beliefs and their reflective attitudes toward one` own and lives, rather than the dilemma`s solution or the definition of moral ideas per se. Also, it is necessarily that the reflective courses involve a conversation with others.

        Effect of Application over Time for Each Type of Blending Tea on Bovine Tooth Coloration

        Background: This study aimed to investigate the effect of selecting commercially available blending teas and applying them to bovine teeth on color change over time.Methods: After selecting healthy bovine teeth, using a cutting-disc, 105 specimens with a dimension of 5×5×3 mm were prepared, and 15 specimens were distributed to each group. Black tea was used as a positive control, water was used as a negative control, and blended tea of five types was used as an experimental group. First, pH and buffering capacity were measured with a pH meter, and tooth color was determined using a spectrophotometer before immersion in the blending tea solution and 1, 5, 7, 14, and 21 days after immersion. Thereafter, the shape change of the enamel surface was observed using a scanning electron microscope, and SPSS ver.26 was used to analyze the color change.Results: The average pH of the five blending teas in the experimental group was 3.78, and the pH of group 3 (strawberry rhubarb) was the lowest at 3.22. The pH levels of black tea and water were 5.19 and 7.30, respectively. The buffering capacity was the highest in group 3 at both pH levels of 5.5 and 7.0. The L*a*b* color change according to immersion time was the largest in group 4 (rooibos yellow flower), and the amount of color change was large in black tea and group 4. As a result of observing the enamel surface of bovine teeth, changes in the surface shape were noted in all groups immersed in the experimental solution for 21 days, except for water.Conclusion: There was a significant difference between the experimental groups in terms of color change according to the immersion time, and color and enamel surface changes were observed in black tea and all experimental groups, except for water.

        Rare Occurrence of Internal Auditory Canal Stenosis Accompanied With Congenital Facial Palsy in a 3-Month-Old Infant: A Case Report

        Internal auditory canal (IAC) stenosis with hypoplasia of the facial and vestibulocochlear nerves is a rare cause of congenital facial palsy. In this case report, a 3-month-old female infant was referred for a neurological developmental assessment for developmental delay and congenital facial palsy. Upon evaluation of developmental delay, hearing loss was detected. Following a magnetic resonance imaging scan of the brain and a computed tomography scan of the temporal bone, IAC stenosis with hypoplasia of facial and vestibular nerves was diagnosed. This is a rare case of IAC stenosis in an infant with initial presentations of left facial palsy and developmental delay associated with hearing loss in the left ear. We strongly suggest that IAC stenosis be considered a cause of congenital facial palsy in infants, especially in patients with developmental delay. In infants with congenital facial palsy, a thorough physical examination and neurological developmental assessment should be performed.

        Effects of Bio-degradable Mulches on the Yield of Maize and the Density of Soil Microbe

        The use of polyethylene film has a problem such as increasing rural environmental contamination, collection costs and farmers' workload. The objective of this study was to evaluate bio-degradable films in terms of yield of maize and soil environment. Treatments were bio-degradable film A (BDF A), bio-degradable film B (BDF B), high density polyethylene (HDPE), and non-mulched (NM) soil. Daily mean values of soil temperature (10 cm depth) under BDF A, BDF B, and HDPE were higher than in NM soil by 2.2, 2.8, $3.1^{\circ}C$ respectively. In the mulching cultivation of maize, bio-degradable film began to degrade from 50~60days after the planting. The degradation was much progressed in the harvest time and almost decomposed in the following spring. The weight of ear of maize was not shown significantly by mulching treatments. There were little changes of soil chemical properties for the bio-degradable film mulching. After using bio-degradable films, the contents of biomass-C and dehydrogenase activity increased from 92 to $137{\sim}147mg\;kg^{-1}$, and from 87 to $123{\sim}168mg\;kg^{-1}$ respectively.

        Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is common clinical event and has high mortality rate despite advanced curative strategies. Several studies found that omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) diet reduces kidney dysfunction followed by ischemic injury. However oral appliance of omega-3 PUFA, in fact, can cause much variability arisen from diet procedure. Fat-1 transgenic mouse produce abundant omega-3 PUFA, result in balanced omega-6: omega-3 ratio than wild type mouse. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to see whether omega-3 PUFA has advantages in AKI caused by ischemic injury using fat-1 transgenic mice. Methods: Bilateral kidneys were subjected to 30 minutes of ischemia by clipping of both renal arteries, renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) was performed. Animals (fat-1 mice and C57BL/6 mice) are sacrificed 24 and 72 h of reperfusion. The effects of omega-3 PUFA on renal IRI were evaluated in terms of renal function, tubular necrosis, infi ammatory cell infi ltration. After that, renal function and severities of renal injury were estimated. Results: Fat-1 mice could reduce to increased BUN, serum creatinine and tissue Kim-1 levels(figure), and reduce neutrophil infi ltration in body after IRI, compared with Wild Type mice. Conclusions: Long-term and high dose of omega-3 supplement can protect renal function and facilitate renal recovery following IRI.

      • Prognostic significance of lymphovascular invasion in sporadic colorectal cancer.

        <P>PURPOSE: It remains unclear whether lymphovascular invasion marks a poor prognosis for patients with sporadic colorectal cancers. Here, we analyzed the association between lymphovascular invasion and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of sporadic colorectal cancer patients. METHODS: The clinicopathological features and prognosis of 2417 patients with sporadic primary colorectal cancer who underwent an operation at the Asan Medical Center between January 1998 and December 2002 were examined. The patients' clinicopathological parameters and follow-up and survival data were obtained from a prospectively collected database. RESULTS: Of the 2417 patients, a lymphovascular invasion-positive tumor was detected in 610 (25.2%). Compared with patients with lymphovascular invasion-negative tumors those with lymphovascular invasion-positive tumors were older (P < .001) and had higher preoperative serum carcinoembryonic antigen levels (P = .011). Their tumors were also more likely to be poorly differentiated (P < .001) and more advanced in terms of T and N categories (P < .001 and P < .001, respectively). The lymphovascular invasion-positive tumors were also more likely to have metastasized systemically (P < .001). Although lymphovascular invasion-positive and lymphovascular invasion-negative tumors metastasized equally frequently to the liver, lung, peritoneum, and bone, lymphovascular invasion-positive tumors metastasized to systemic lymph nodes more often (P < .001). These tumors also recurred at systemic lymph nodes after curative intent surgery more often (P = .007). Lymphovascular invasion-positive status was an independent unfavorable prognostic factor for the 5-year overall and 5-year disease-free survival of patients with sporadic colorectal cancer (P < .001 and P < .001, respectively). CONCLUSION: Lymphovascular invasion-positive status could be used to identify patients with sporadic primary colorectal cancer with aggressive tumors and as a factor that independently indicates an unfavorable prognosis.</P>

      • Vocal Fold Augmentation with Beta Glucan Hydrogel Cross-Linked by <i>γ</i> Irradiation for Enhanced Duration of Effect: <i> In Vivo</i> Animal Study

        <P>This study explored a novel strategy to restore the vocal gap by using cross-linked <I>β</I>-glucan hydrogel by <I>γ</I>-irradiation. An aqueous solution of 5 wt% <I>β</I>-glucan was prepared and cross-linked using <SUP>60</SUP>Co <I>γ</I> irradiation. Ten nude mice were injected with 0.8 mL of irradiated <I>β</I>-glucan on the left back and the same volume of nonirradiated <I>β</I>-glucan on the right back for comparison. The mice were sacrificed at 1 and 2 weeks after injection and histological evaluations were performed. Irradiated <I>β</I>-glucan demonstrated a significantly larger volume than nonirradiated <I>β</I>-glucan in the back of nude mice with less inflammatory reaction. After unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve section in New Zealand White rabbits, irradiated and nonirradiated <I>β</I>-glucan were injected into paralyzed vocal folds. Irradiated <I>β</I>-glucan remained at the paralyzed vocal fold without definite inflammatory signs on endoscopy. High-speed recordings of vocal fold vibration showed decreased vocal gap in irradiated group compared to nonirradiated group. Histologically, the laryngeal epithelium and lamina propria remained intact, without inflammatory cell infiltration. Our newly developed injection material, irradiated <I>β</I>-glucan, showed excellent biocompatibility and remained longer than nonirradiated <I>β</I>-glucan<I> in vivo</I>, suggesting irradiated hydrogels as a new therapeutic approach that may be useful for the long-term treatment of vocal fold palsy.</P>

        Expression of Immunologically Active Porcine Recombinant TGF-${\beta}1$ Precursor Protein in Baculovirus System

        In order to express recombinant porcine TGF-${\beta}1$ protein in a baculovirus expression system the entire TGF-${\beta}1$gene containing extra amino acids at the N terminus was cloned into pFBa and pFBb of the Bac-To-$Bac^{TM}$ baculovirus expression system. One of the clones contained 106 extra amino acids and was designated pFBa-106 TGF-${\beta}1$, and the other had 28 extra amino acids and was designated pFBb-28 TGF-${\beta}1$. The orientation of the gene was identified with restriction enzyme mapping and PCR with internal TGF-${\beta}1$ primers. Sf-9 cells were infected at a m.o.i. of 10 by the recombinant viruses generated from the two expected sizes of 55 kD and 46.4kD. these precursor forms of TGF-${\beta}1$ with a polyclonal antibody against human TGF-${\beta}1$. No mature form of TGF-${\beta}1$ protein was detected on SDS gels and an immunoblot indicated that TGF-${\beta}1$ precursor is not properlu processed in insect cells.
