Formation of Iron-oxide Nanorods on the Surface of Silicon by Using Annealing Technique

In this article, we report the synthesis of iron-oxide nanorods on silicon (Si) substrates. The nanorods were formed by annealing an iron chloride solution on the surface of a Si at 950 C in the presence of a reducing gas (H2) and a diluting gas (Ar). The surface morphologies of the nanorods were investigated by using field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and their compositions and structural characterization were investigated by elemental using energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), respectively. The HRTEM study shows a crystalline formation of the nanorods. The electron diffraction pattern along the viewing (111) direction and the HRTEM result shows an interplanar distance equal to 2.17 °A, which is nearly equal to the standard value 2.3 °A of FeO. The as-fabricated nanorods can be used for many technological applications.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) on heavy menstrual bleeding in perimenopausal women.Methods: This was a prospective, observational clinical study conducted on 42 perimenopausal women with heavy menstrual bleeding who met the study eligibility criteria. LNG-IUS was inserted in the postmenstrual phase following baseline evaluation. The patients were followed up at the 4, 12, and 24 weeks. Pictorial blood assessment chart (PBAC) score, hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels, and endometrial thickness were assessed before insertion and during the follow-up visits. Results: Two patients (4.8%) were lost to follow-up, three patients (7.1%) opted for hysterectomy, two women (4.8%) experienced spontaneous expulsion and 35 (83.3%) women continued the usage. Menstrual blood loss assessed using the median PBAC score (interquartile range) significantly reduced (P < 0.001) from the pre-insertion level of 280 (246–306) to 124 (60–200) at 4 weeks to 45 (34–76) at 12 weeks and further to 32 (20–50) at the end of 24 weeks. Simultaneously, a significant (P < 0.001) improvement in the mean hemoglobin and serum ferritin levels and a significant (P < 0.001) decrease in endometrial thickness were observed. The most common side effect was spotting (50.0%) and vaginal discharge (38.1%).Conclusions: LNG-IUS causes a remarkable reduction in menstrual blood loss and marked improvement in dysmenorrhea. It also reduces anemia by improving the hemoglobin and ferritin levels. Thus, it can serve as an effective treatment option for heavy menstrual bleeding in perimenopausal women and prevent the need for a hysterectomy.

The main aim of the article is to introduce new generalizations of Fredholm and Browder classes of spectra when the underlying Hilbert space is not necessarily separable and study their properties. To achieve the goal the notions of 𝛼-Browder operators, 𝛼-B-Fredholm operators, 𝛼-B-Browder operators and 𝛼-Drazin invertibility have been introduced. The relation of these classes of operators with their corresponding weighted spectra has been investigated. An equivalence of 𝛼-Drazin invertible operators with 𝛼-Browder operators and 𝛼-B-Browder operators has also been established. The weighted Browder spectrum of the sum of two bounded linear operators has been characterised in the case when the Hilbert space (not necessarily separable) is a direct sum of its closed invariant subspaces.

A NOTE ON THE PROPERTIES OF PSEUDO-WEIGHTED BROWDER SPECTRUM

The goal of this article is to introduce the concept of pseudo-weighted Browder spectrum when the underlying Hilbert space is not necessarily separable. To attain this goal, the notion of α-pseudo-Browder operator has been introduced. The properties and the relation of the weighted spectrum, pseudo-weighted spectrum, weighted Browder spectrum, and pseudo-weighted Browder spectrum have been investigated by extending analogous properties of their corresponding essential pseudo-spectrum and essential pseudo-weighted spectrum. The weighted spectrum, pseudo-weighted spectrum, weighted Browder, and pseudo-weighted Browder spectrum of the sum of two bounded linear operators have been characterized in the case when the Hilbert space (not necessarily separable) is a direct sum of its closed invariant subspaces. This exploration ends with a characterization of the pseudo-weighted Browder spectrum of the sum of two bounded linear operators defined over the arbitrary Hilbert spaces under certain conditions.

The research was performed to develop and evaluate floating gastroretentive microsphere based tablets of cefixime trihydrate (CFT) which shows poor oral bioavailability (40–50 %) due to narrow absorption window. The microspheres were prepared by varying ratios of hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) and ethyl cellulose using non-aqueous solvent evaporation method. Fourier transform infrared analysis of prepared microspheres demonstrated the compatibility of drug and polymers. Differential scanning calorimetric and X-ray diffraction studies confirmed changes in crystalline structure of CFT within the formulation. Scanning electron microscopy showed spherical and porous nature of microspheres. Microspheres were characterized for particle sizes (70–160 lm), percentage yield (84–95 %), and encapsulation efficiencies (35–80 %). Micrometric parameters such as angle of repose, Carr’s index were in acceptable limit and indicated microsphere elicited free flowing behaviour. Tableted microspheres illustrated buoyancy for more than 12 h as compared to drug tablets. In vitro release of drug was more controlled and prolonged on tableting the microspheres exhibiting biphasic pattern. Kinetically, microspheres followed Fickian (case I) diffusion mechanism while tableted microspheres followed non-Fickian diffusion (anomalous) mechanism for CFT release. Conclusively, tableting of microsphere into swellable and controlled release polymers like HPMC are expected to enhance gastric retention and bioavailability of CFT due to small particle size, changes in crystallinity of CFT, prolonged floating behavior and controlled release profile.
