Toxicity Studies on Peristrophe paniculata (Forssk) Brummitt-an Ayurveda Drug.
R.V. Pradeep Chandran,A. Saraswathy,B. Murali Manohar,S. Vairamuthu 한국생약학회 2008 Natural Product Sciences Vol.14 No.2
Chronic oral toxicity studies (90 days) on aqueous and methanol extracts of the whole plant of Peristrophe paniculata (Forssk) Brummitt were carried out in Wistar rats. The dosage was 200 mg/kg/day, p.o. for both the extracts. All external morphological and biochemical changes, in addition to body weight and vital organ weights were recorded. During this investigation, no significant mortality was observed. The results showed that both the extracts were devoid of any toxicity at the dose level studied as compared to the control group.

The drying behavior of turkey berries was investigated in a fluidized bed dryer with mild steel, copper, and aluminum as an inert medium with varying mass ratio of 0.5, 1, and 2 at a constant temperature 70 °C and velocity 4 m/s. The effect of surface roughness of the inert materials on the drying of samples was studied. It was found that the roughened surface and the presence of inert materials enhanced the drying rate. Aluminum inert materials with mass ratio of 1:1, surface roughness of 1mm and larger surface area resulted in a minimum drying time of 465 min, the maximum effective moisture diffusivity of 4.078x10 −10 m 2 /s, the highest vitamin C content of 1.38 g per 100 g, lowest shrinkage percentage of 40.3 %, and minimum change in color (∆E = 7.11) were obtained.
FIREFLY ALGORITHM BASED TUNING OF PID CONTROLLER FOR MULTIPLE DELAY SYSTEM
K.Saraswathi,R. Senthil,V. Nagarajan 대한전자공학회 2015 ITC-CSCC :International Technical Conference on Ci Vol.2015 No.6
This paper is concerned with the tuning of controller for multiple delay system process. To compensate the effect of time resulting from transportation of materials and energy is essential in process industries. It is very hard to control the process with dead time. The control performance of genetic algorithm is compared with firefly algorithm employed to obtain the optimal control parameters for gain-scheduling Smith-PID controller. Simulation results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.
Wound Healing Activity of the Chloroform Extract of Plumbago rosea Linn. and Plumbagin
A. Saraswathy,R.V. Pradeep Chandran,B. Murali Manohar,S.Vairamuthu 한국생약학회 2006 Natural Product Sciences Vol.12 No.1
wound healing activity of plumbagin and the chloroform extract of Plumbago rosea Linn. (Yoot),incorporated into ointments with yellow soft paraffin, have been investigated on rats. Wound healing activity wasstudied using excision and incision wound models in rats following topical application. Both plumbagin and thePlumbago rosea root extract produced a significant response in both of the wound models studied. The woundPlumbago rosea root extract (0.5%),as against in 22 days in the case of control animals. The results were also comparable to those of a standard drug, framycetin sulphate cream (1% w/w) in terms of wound contracting ability, wound closure time, tensile strengthof wound and regeneration of tissues at the wound site. Histological studies revealed evidences for the healingprocess by formation of fibrovascular tissue, epithelization and increased collagenization when compared tocontrol.Keywordswound healing activity, Plumbago rosea, plumbagin, Plumbaginaceae

The dye wastewater discharge from the textile industries mainly affects the aquatic environment. Hence, the treatment of this wastewater is essential for a pollutant-free environment. The purpose of this research is to optimize the dye removal efficiency for process influencing independent variables such as pH, electrolysis time (ET), and current density (CD) by using Box-Behnken design (BBD) optimization and Genetic Algorithm (GA) modelling. The electrocoagulation treatment technique was used to treat the synthetically prepared Reactive Black dye solution under batch mode potentiometric operations. The percentage of error for the BBD optimization was significantly greater than for the GA modelling results. The optimum factors determined by GA modelling were CD-59.11 mA/cm2, ET-24.17 minutes, and pH-8.4. At this moment, the experimental and predicted dye removal efficiencies were found to be 96.25% and 98.26%, respectively. The most and least predominant factors found by the beta coefficient were ET and pH respectively. The outcome of this research shows GA modeling is a better tool for predicting dye removal efficiencies as well as process influencing factors.

The treatment and reuse of industrial wastewater plays a foremost role in succeeding environmental protection and water security. The electrochemical treatment technology has attracted a great deal of attention because of its compact, high particulate removal, free from chemicals, automation, and minimum sludge generation. The objective of the study is to review the existing literature on COD (Chemical oxygen demand) removal from various industrial effluents using electrocoagulation technology, as well as the factors that influence the process. Electricity is passed through electro plates dipped in wastewater during the electrocoagulation process. Metal hydroxide formations occur, which removes pollutants from wastewater via the sedimentation and flotation mechanisms. After a thorough review of various literatures, a detailed discussion on the process influencing parameters such as pH, Current Density, Electrolysis Time, Conductivity, Stirring Speed, and Retention Time has been done which gives useful information on future scope of research in this area.
