• Synthesis and Characterization of Potentiostatically Electrodeposited Tungsten Oxide Thin Films for Smart Window Application

        More, A. J.,Patil, R. S.,Dalavi, D. S.,Suryawanshi, M. P.,Burungale, V. V.,Kim, J. H.,Patil, P. S. Springer Science + Business Media 2017 Journal of electronic materials Vol.46 No.2

Tungsten oxide (WO3) thin films have been synthesized using electrodeposition in potentiostatic mode and the effect of different deposition potentials on their structural, morphological, optical, and electrochromic (EC) properties investigated. The deposition potential versus saturated calomel electrode (SCE) was varied from -0.35 V to -0.50 V in steps of -0.05 V for 20 min each. The electrodeposited WO3 thin films were characterized using x-ray diffraction analysis, micro-Raman spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrophotometry, revealing amorphous nature with nanograins having average size from 40 nm to 60 nm. The EC performance of the WO3 thin films exhibited response times of 1.35 s for bleaching (t (b)) and 3.1 s for coloration (t (c)) with excellent reversibility of 64.36%. The highest coloration efficiency of the electrodeposited WO3 thin films was found to be 87.95 cm(2)/C. The electrochemical reversibility and stability of the WO3 thin films obtained in this study make them promising for use in smart window applications.

      • Using Field-Based Epidemiological Methods to Investigate FMD Outbreaks: An Example from the 2002 Outbreak in Korea

        Wee, S.-H.,Nam, H.-M.,Moon, O.-K.,Yoon, H.,Park, J.-Y.,More, S. J. Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2008 Transboundary and emerging diseases Vol.55 No.9

Summary

Relevant to foot and mouth disease (FMD), most published epidemiological studies have been conducted using quantitative methods and substantial regional or national datasets. Veterinary epidemiology also plays a critical role during outbreak investigations, both to assist with herd-level decision-making and to contribute relevant information to assist with ongoing national or regional control strategies. Despite the importance of this role, however, little information has been published on the use of applied (field-based) epidemiological methods during disease outbreaks. In this study, we outline an investigative template for FMD, and a case study of its use during the 2002 FMD outbreak in Korea. Suitable for use during field-based epidemiological investigations of individual farms within a broader regional/national response, the template considers three steps including confirming infection, estimating date of introduction and determining method of introduction. A case study was conducted on IP13 (the 13th infected premises), the only IP during the 2002 FMD outbreak in Korea that was geographically isolated from all other known cases. The authorities first became aware of FMD on IP13 on 2 June, however, infection may have been present from 12 May. Infection was confirmed on 3 June 2002. FMD was probably spread to IP13 by a contract worker who had participated during 2–4 May in the culling operations on IP1. Other routes of spread were ruled out during the investigation. The contract worker lived in the locality of IP13 and worked on a part-time basis at a pork-processing plant that was adjacent to this farm. The contractor became heavily contaminated during the cull, but did not comply fully with cleaning and disinfection requirements once the cull had been completed. The investigative template contributed structure and focus to the field-based investigation. Results from this case study demonstrate the need for strict management of personnel in disease control and adherence to the sanitary rules by all those involved.

      • Novel Three Phase Flux Reversal Machine with Full Pitch Winding

        D. S . More,B .G. Fernandes 전력전자학회 2007 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-

This paper proposes a concept of fictitious ‘Electrical Gear’ in analyzing the flux pattern of Flux Reversal Machine (FRM). Concept of novel full pitch winding is presented for FRM. Finite Element Method ( FEM ) analysis of conventional concentrated stator pole winding FRM and proposed full pitch winding FRM are carried out to validate the concept. Generator performance of full pitch winding FRM is compared with conventional concentrated stator pole winding FRM. Full pitch winding arrangement increases the inductance of the machine which results in poor voltage regulation. Series capacitive compensation is provided to the machine for better voltage regulation. Output power of compensated full pitch winding FRM is approximately twice as that of the conventional concentrated stator pole winding FRM. Physical dimensions, electrical and magnetic loadings are kept same in both the machines.

      • Epidemiological Characteristics of the 2002 Outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease in The Republic of Korea

        Wee, S.-H.,Yoon, H.,More, S. J.,Nam, H.-M.,Moon, O.-K.,Jung, J.-M.,Kim, S.-J.,Kim, C.-H.,Lee, E.-S.,Park, C.-K.,Hwang, I.-J. Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2008 Transboundary and emerging diseases Vol.55 No.8

Summary

The Republic of Korea experienced a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) outbreak during May–June 2002. The present study describes epidemiological characteristics of the 2002 FMD outbreak in Korea, including the pattern of the outbreak in both time and space, transmission routes among infected farms, and control measures. One of the notable features of the 2002 FMD epidemic in Korea was that the virus infected mostly pigs [15 of 16 infected premises (IPs)], despite the presence of other susceptible animals on infected and neighbouring farms. The epidemic showed temporal clustering at 8–9 day intervals, suggesting five generations of infection during the outbreak, and 13 of 16 (81.3%) IPs were located within a 10 km-radius of the index case. The clinical signs that prompted notification of infection included vesicles around hooves and snouts. The age of lesions was significantly less among cases reported by farmers compared with veterinarians. The high awareness of farmers from an earlier FMD outbreak greatly helped the animal hygiene authority in efforts associated with disease control and eradication. The outbreak was eradicated within < 2 months as a result of the intensive control efforts of the animal hygiene authorities and the cooperation of the Korean people. Although the outbreak was a costly lesson for the Korean people, the experience gained will contribute to future efforts in the prevention and control of animal infectious diseases.

SOME APPLICATIONS AND PROPERTIES OF GENERALIZED FRACTIONAL CALCULUS OPERATORS TO A SUBCLASS OF ANALYTIC AND MULTIVALENT FUNCTIONS

        Lee, S.K.,Khairnar, S.M.,More, Meena The Kangwon-Kyungki Mathematical Society 2009 한국수학논문집 Vol.17 No.2

In this paper we introduce a new subclass $K_{\mu}^{\lambda},{\phi},{\eta}(n;{\rho};{\alpha})$ of analytic and multivalent functions with negative coefficients using fractional calculus operators. Connections to the well known and some new subclasses are discussed. A necessary and sufficient condition for a function to be in $K_{\mu}^{\lambda},{\phi},{\eta}(n;{\rho};{\alpha})$ is obtained. Several distortion inequalities involving fractional integral and fractional derivative operators are also presented. We also give results for radius of starlikeness, convexity and close-to-convexity and inclusion property for functions in the subclass. Modified Hadamard product, application of class preserving integral operator and other interesting properties are also discussed.

Quantum Dot Sensitized Solar Cells Based on TiO2/AgInS2

        Sachin A. Pawar,정재필,Dipali S. Patil,Vivek M. More,Rochelle S. Lee,신재철,최원준 한국물리학회 2018 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.72 No.10

Quantum dot heterojunctions with type-II band alignment can efficiently separate photogenerated electron-hole pairs and, hence, are useful for solar cell studies. In this study, a quantum dot sensitized solar cell (QDSSC) made of TiO2/AgInS2 is achieved to boost the photoconversion efficiency for the TiO2-based system by varying the AgInS2 layer’s thickness. The TiO2 nanorods array film is prepared by using a simple hydrothermal technique. The formation of a AgInS2 QD-sensitized TiO2-nanorod photoelectrode is carried out by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique. The effect of the QD layer on the performance of the solar cell is studied by varying the SILAR cycles of the QD coating. The synthesized electrode materials are characterized by using X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy and solar cell performances. The results indicate that the nanocrystals have effectively covered the outer surfaces of the TiO2 nanorods. The interfacial structure of quantum dots (QDs)/TiO2 is also investigated, and the growth interface is verified. A careful comparison between TiO2/AgInS2 sensitized cells reveals that the trasfer of electrons and hole proceeds efficiently, the recombination is suppressed for the optimum thickness of the QD layer and light from the entire visible spectrum is utilised. Under AM 1.5G illumination, a high photocurrent of 1.36 mAcm−2 with an improved power conversion efficiency of 0.48% is obtained. The solar cell properties of our photoanodes suggest that the TiO2 nanorod array films co-sensitized by AgInS2 nanoclusters have potential applications in solar cells.
