        Investigation of AlInN HEMT structures with different AlGaN buffer layers grown on sapphire substrates by MOCVD

        We investigate the structural and electrical properties of AlxIn1-xN/AlN/GaN heterostructures with AlGaN buffers grown by MOCVD, which can be used as an alternative to AlInN HEMT structures with GaN buffer. The effects of the GaN channel thickness and the addition of a content graded AlGaN layer to the structural and electrical characteristics were studied through variable temperature Hall effect measurements, high resolution XRD, and AFM measurements. Enhancement in electron mobility was observed in two of the suggested AlxIn1-xN/AlN/GaN/Al0.04Ga0.96N heterostructures when compared to the standard AlxIn1exN/AlN/GaN heterostructure. This improvement was attributed to better electron confinement in the channel due to electric field arising from piezoelectric polarization charge at the Al0.04Ga0.96N/GaN heterointerface and by the conduction band discontinuity formed at the same interface. If the growth conditions and design parameters of the AlxIn1-xN HEMT structures with AlGaN buffers can be modified further, the electron spillover from the GaN channel can be significantly limited and even higher electron mobilities, which result in lower two-dimensional sheet resistances, would be possible.         Developing a new rock classification based on the abrasiveness, hardness, and toughness of rocks and PA for the prediction of hard dimension stone sawability in quarrying

        Predicting the sawability of dimension stone is one of the most important factors in the optimized design and cost estimation of quarrying. This paper aims to predict the cutting rate of diamond wire saw (DWS) as main performance criteria. For this purpose, a classification system for ranking the sawability of hard dimension stone based on the toughness, abrasiveness, and hardness of rock was initially developed, and a Hard Dimension Stone Sawability index (HDSSi) was defined. Then, by means of multiple curvilinear regression analysis, the data were analyzed and the relationship between the cutting rate with the HDSSi, and pullback amperage was obtained with a high correlation coefficient (.846) in data training, and .801 in data test. Validation of the model was carried out by considering the t-test, F-test, and the coefficient of determination. During this research, varieties of 11 types of hard rock were cut in a laboratory using a DWS and a fully instrumented cutting platform at different pullbacks. The results show that the cutting rate of hard dimension stones with a DWS can be successfully predicted using the developed model.

        Performance evaluation of suspended ceiling systems using shake table test

        The national standard being used in Turkey for suspended ceiling systems (SCS) regulates material and dimensional properties but does not contain regulations regarding installation instructions which cause substandard applications of SCSs in practice. The lack of installation instructions would potentially affect the dynamic performance of these systems. Also, the vast majority of these systems are manufactured using substandard low-quality materials, and this will inevitably increase SCS related damages during earthquakes. The experimental work presented here focuses on the issue of dynamic performance of SCSs with different types of carrier systems (lay-on and clip-in systems), different weight conditions, and material-workmanship qualities. Moreover, the effects of auxiliary fastening elements, so called seismic perimeter clips, in improving the dynamic performance of SCSs were experimentally investigated. Results show that clip-in ceiling system performs better than lay-on system regardless of material and workmanship qualities. On the other hand, the quality aspect becomes the most important parameter in affecting the dynamic performance of lay-on type systems as opposed to tile weights and usage of perimeter clips. When high quality system is used, tile weight does not change the performance of lay-on system, however in poor quality system, tile weight becomes an important factor where heavier tiles considerably decrease the performance level. Perimeter clips marginally increase the dynamic performance of lay-on ceiling system, but it has no effect on the clip-in ceiling system under the shaking levels considered.

        Influence of deposition pressure and power on characteristics of RF-Sputtered Mo films and investigation of sodium diffusion in the films

        Mo films deposited by DC sputtering are widely used as back contact in CIGS and CZTS based thin film solar cells. However, there have been only a few studies on the deposition of Mo films by RF sputtering method. In this context, Mo films on SLG substrates were prepared as a function of deposition pressure and power by using RF magnetron sputtering method to contribute to this shortcoming. Mo films were deposited at 250 °C substrate temperature by using 20, 15, 10 mTorr Ar pressures at 120 W RF power and 10 mTorr Ar pressure at 100 W RF power. Structural, morphological and reflectivity properties of RF-sputtered Mo films were clarified by XRD, AFM, FE-SEM and UV–Vis measurements. In addition, due to sodium incorporation from SLG substrate to the absorber layer through Mo back contact layer is so essential in terms of improving the conversion efficiency values of CIGS and CZTS thin film solar cell devices, the effects of Na diffusion in the films were analyzed with SIMS depth profile. The electrical properties of the films such as mobility, carrier density and resistivity were determined by Hall Effect measurements. It was found that Mo films prepared at 120 W, 10 mtorr and 250 °C substrate temperature and then annealed at 500 °C for 30 min, had resistivity as low as 10−5 Ω cm, as well as higher amount of Na incorporation than other films.
