Crop yield prediction in cotton for regional level using random forest approach

        Prasad N. R.,Patel N R,Danodia Abhishek 대한공간정보학회 2021 Spatial Information Research Vol.29 No.2

Early and precise estimation of crop yield plays a crucial role in quantitative and financial assessment at field level, to lay down strategic plans for import–export policies for agricultural commodities and to doubling the income of farmers. In this study, a machine learning based random forest (RF) algorithm was used to predicate cotton yield at three distinct times before the actual harvest in the state of Maharashtra in India using R package. Long-term agromet-spectral variables derived from multi-sensor satellites with actual crop yield from 2001 to 2017, were used to generate co-linearity of predictor variables and further, calibrate and validate the RF model. The performance of the RF model was found reliable and faster in predicting the crop yield with the most influencing variables with 69%, 60% and 39% of coefficient of determination (R2) in the final yield for September, December and February months, respectively using CART decision tree and recursive feature elimination method in R programming. Results showed as RF algorithm has the capability to integrate and process a large number of inputs as derived from different satellite modalities, unscaled and non-uniform ground based information, expert knowledge, etc. With high precision and avoid over fitting of the model.

On the Prediction of Grain Refinement Mechanism in Direct Chill Casting of Aluminum and Its Alloys Under Low Degree Mechanical Forced Convection

        Deepak Patel,Prasenjit Biswas,Anil Kumar,Hiren R. Kotadia,Archana Mallik,Sanjeev Das 대한금속·재료학회 2022 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.28 No.7

The present investigation focuses on grain refinement in pure aluminum and its alloy under mechanical stirring with a verylow degree of forced convection of 800 rpm as compared to reported values of up to 8000 rpm during direct chill castingprocess (DC). Commercially pure aluminum (99.7%) and Al6082 alloy billets were fabricated in an in-house designed DCcasting simulator. Mechanical forced convection (MFC) was applied to the melt during casting by a common four-bladedimpeller. The microstructural properties of the as-cast billets have been analysed to study the effect of MFC during casting andsolidification. The structure of both Al and its alloy is found to be refined in presence of MFC as compared to conventionalDC. A combination of simulation, experimental and theoretical approaches has been used to determine the effect of MFCin melt-temperature distribution to propose the mechanism of grain refinement. It has been observed that MFC prominentlyreduces the temperature gradient and extends undercooling time, resulting in fine grain structure.

      • 치즈와 치아건강 역할

        윤여창,R.S. Patel,E. Renner,S. Singh 한국낙농학회 1992 韓國酪農學會誌 Vol.14 No.4

      • Transient receptor potential vanilloid type-1 channel regulates diet-induced obesity, insulin resistance, and leptin resistance

        Lee, Eunjung,Jung, Dae Young,Kim, Jong Hun,Patel, Payal R.,Hu, Xiaodi,Lee, Yongjin,Azuma, Yoshihiro,Wang, Hsun-Fan,Tsitsilianos, Nicholas,Shafiq, Umber,Kwon, Jung Yeon,Lee, Hyong Joo,Lee, Ki Won,Kim, The Federation of American Societies for Experimen 2015 The FASEB Journal Vol.29 No.8

<P>Insulin resistance is a major characteristic of obesity and type 2 diabetes, but the underlying mechanism is unclear. Recent studies have shown a metabolic role of capsaicin that may be mediated <I>via</I> the transient receptor potential vanilloid type-1 (TRPV1) channel. In this study, TRPV1 knockout (KO) and wild-type (WT) mice (as controls) were fed a high-fat diet (HFD), and metabolic studies were performed to measure insulin and leptin action. The TRPV1 KO mice became more obese than the WT mice after HFD, partly attributed to altered energy balance and leptin resistance in the KO mice. The hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp experiment showed that the TRPV1 KO mice were more insulin resistant after HFD because of the ∼40% reduction in glucose metabolism in the white and brown adipose tissue, compared with that in the WT mice. Leptin treatment failed to suppress food intake, and leptin-mediated hypothalamic signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT)-3 activity was blunted in the TRPV1 KO mice. We also found that the TRPV1 KO mice were more obese and insulin resistant than the WT mice at 9 mo of age. Taken together, these results indicate that lacking TRPV1 exacerbates the obesity and insulin resistance associated with an HFD and aging, and our findings further suggest that TRPV1 has a major role in regulating glucose metabolism and hypothalamic leptin’s effects in obesity.—Lee, E., Jung, D. Toggling Technique Allows Retrograde Early Release to Facilitate Neurovascular Bundle Sparing During Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy: A Propensity Score-Matching Study

Shim Ji Sung,태종현,Noh Tae Il,Kang Seok Ho,Cheon Jun,Lee Jeong Gu,Patel Vipul R.,Kang Sung Gu 대한의학회 2022 Journal of Korean medical science Vol.37 No.1

Background: This study aimed to present the surgical facilitation of neurovascular bundle (NVB) sparing using the toggling technique (30° lens down/up switching) and to evaluate erectile dysfunction (ED) recovery after robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). Methods: We assessed 144 patients (group with toggling, n = 72; group without toggling, n = 72) who underwent RARP with bilateral NVB sparing using propensity score matching. Inclusion criteria were ≥ 1 year follow-up and preoperative potency as per the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM) questionnaire (≥ 17 points). Recovery of ED after RARP was defined as return to baseline sexual function or self-assessment regarding successful intercourse. The subjective surgeon’s nerve sparing (SNS) score and tunneling success rates were used to evaluate surgical facilitation. The recovery rate of ED between the groups was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier analysis. Results: A better ED recovery trend was confirmed according to the SNS score (R2 = 0.142, P = 0.004). In the analysis of NVB sparing ease, the toggling group showed higher SNS scores (on right/left side: P = 0.011 and < 0.001, respectively) and overall tunneling success rates (87% vs. 74%, P = 0.001) than the group without toggling. Overall, ED recovery rates were 82% (59/72) and 75% (54/72) in the groups with and without toggling, respectively, at the 1-year follow-up (P = 0.047), and the toggling group showed a faster ED recovery rate at 3 months (47% vs. 35%, P = 0.013). In a specific analysis of the potent cohort (< 60 years, bilateral full NVB spared, SHIM score ≥ 22), the ED recovery rate reached 87% (14/16) in the toggling group. Conclusion: The retrograde early release with the toggling technique improves the facilitation of NVB sparing, leading to improved ED recovery.

Validation of Neck Disability Index Severity among Patients Receiving One or Two-Level Anterior Cervical Surgery

        Geoghegan Cara E.,Mohan Shruthi,Lynch Conor P.,Cha Elliot D. K.,Jacob Kevin C.,Patel Madhav R.,Prabhu Michael C.,Vanjani Nisheka N.,Pawlowski Hanna,Singh Kern 대한척추외과학회 2023 Asian Spine Journal Vol.17 No.1

Study Design: Retrospective cohort. Purpose: To evaluate the validity of established severity thresholds for Neck Disability Index (NDI) among patients undergoing anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) or cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA). Overview of Literature: Few studies have examined the validity of established NDI threshold values among patients undergoing ACDF or CDA. Methods: A surgical database was reviewed to identify patients undergoing cervical spine procedures. Demographics, operative characteristics, comorbidities, NDI, Visual Analog Scale (VAS), and 12-item Short Form (SF-12) physical and mental composite scores (PCS and MCS) were recorded. NDI severity was categorized using previously established threshold values. Improvement from preoperative scores at each postoperative timepoint and convergent validity of NDI was evaluated. Discriminant validity of NDI was evaluated against VAS neck and arm and SF-12 PCS and MCS. Results: All 290 patients included in the study demonstrated significant improvements from baseline values for all patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) at all postoperative timepoints (p<0.001) except SF-12 MCS at 2 years (p=0.393). NDI showed a moderate-to-strong correlation (r≥0.419) at most timepoints for VAS neck, VAS arm, SF-12 PCS, and SF-12 MCS (p<0.001, all). NDI severity categories demonstrated significant differences in mean VAS neck, VAS arm, SF-12 PCS, and SF-12 MCS at all timepoints (p<0.001, all). Differences between NDI severity groups were not uniform for all PROMs. VAS neck values demonstrated significant intergroup differences at most timepoints, whereas SF-12 MCS showed significantly different values between most severity groups. Conclusions: Neck disability is strongly correlated with neck and arm pain, physical function, and mental health and demonstrates worse outcomes with increasing severity. Previously established severity categories may be more applicable to pain than physical function or mental health and may be more uniformly applied preoperatively for cervical spine patients.

Hematological and biochemical reference intervals of wild-caught and inhouse adult Indian rhesus macaques (Macaca mulatta)

        Niraj A. Shah,Laxit K. Bhatt,Rajesh J. Patel,Tushar M. Patel,Nayankumar V. Patel,Harshida G. Trivedi,Nilam R. Patel,Jitendra H. Patel,Satish D. Patel,Rajesh S. Sundar,Mukul R. Jain 한국실험동물학회 2022 Laboratory Animal Research Vol.38 No.4

Background: Nonhuman primates are used for research purposes such as studying diseases and drug discovery and development programs. Various clinical pathology parameters are used as biomarkers of disease conditions in biomedical research. Detailed reports of these parameters are not available for Indian-origin rhesus macaques. To meet the increasing need for information, we conducted this study on 121 adult Indian rhesus macaques (57 wild-sourced and 64 inhouse animals, aged 3–7 years). A total of 18 hematology and 18 biochemistry parameters were evaluated and reported in this study. Data from these parameters were statistically evaluated for significance amongst inhouse and wild-born animals and for differences amongst sexes. The reference range was calculated according to C28-A3 guidelines for reporting reference intervals of clinical laboratory parameters. Results: Source of the animals and sex appeared to have statistically significant effects on reference values and range. Wild-born animals reported higher WBC, platelets, neutrophils, RBC, hemoglobin, HCT, MCV, and total protein values in comparison to inhouse monkeys. Sex-based differences were observed for parameters such as RBCs, hemoglobin, HCT, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, albumin, and total protein amongst others. Conclusions: Through this study, we have established a comprehensive data set of reference values and intervals for certain hematological and biochemical parameters which will help researchers in planning, conducting, and interpreting various aspects of biomedical research employing Indian-origin rhesus monkeys.
