Effects of gradient on stress distribution in rotating functionally graded solid disks

Xu-Long Peng,Xian-Fang Li 대한기계학회 2012 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.26 No.5

"This paper presents the elastic analysis of a rotating sandwich solid disk composed of three-layered perfectly-bonded composites. The center and outer regions of the solid disk are two homogeneous isotropic media, and the middle region is a transition zone made of functionally graded materials (FGM). Two cases are considered. One is on FGM with power-law gradient. For this case, explicit expressions for full elastic fields are derived. The other is on FGM with any radial nonhomogeneity, for which an analytic approach is proposed to reduce the problem into a Fredholm integral equation. The validity of the latter method is ensured by comparing numerical results of the elastic fields with the exact ones for the case of power-law gradient. For a general case, the current study presents the influences of the gradient, width variation of the FGM, and rotational velocity on the distribution of the radial and hoop stresses for a rotating composite disk made of aluminum and zirconia. The method presented in this paper may help engineering designers in choosing appropriate gradients and materials to acquire the optimal state of a rotating functionally graded disk."

      • Expression and Significance of Microsomal Prostaglandin Synthase-1 (mPGES-1) and Beclin-1 in the Development of Prostate Cancer

        Xu, Lu-Wei,Qian, Ming,Jia, Rui-Peng,Xu, Zheng,Wu, Jian-Ping,Li, Wen-Cheng,Huang, Wen-Bin,Chen, Xing-Guo Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.4

The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and significance of microsomal prostaglandin synthase-1 (mPGES-1) and Beclin-1 in the development of prostate cancer (PCa). Immunohistochemistry was performed on paraffin-embedded sections with rabbit polyclonal against mPGES-1 and Beclin-1 in 40 PCa, 40 benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and 10 normal prostate specimens for this purpose. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was applied for mRNA expression of mPGES-1 and Beclin-1, while MTT assays were used to ascertain the best working concentration of the mPGES-1 inhibitor (CAY10526). The effect of CAY10526 treatment on expression of Beclin-1 in DU-145 cells was studied using Western blot analysis. Localization of Beclin-1 and mPGES-1 was in endochylema. Significant differences in expression was noted among PCa, BPH and normal issues (P<0.05). Beclin-1 expression inversely correlated with mPGES-1 expression in PCa tissue (P<0.05). CAY10526 could significantly block mPGES-1 expression and the proliferation of DU-145 cells (P<0.05), while increasing Beclin-1 levels (P<0.05). Overexpression of mPGES-1 could decrease the autophagic PCa cell death. Inhibiting the expression of mPGES-1 may lead to DU-145 cell death and up-regulation of Beclin-1. The results suggest that inhibition of mPGES-1 may have therapeutic potential for PCa in the future.

      • Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy for Resectable Esophageal Carcinoma: A Meta-analysis of Randomized Clinical Trials

Xu, Xiao-Hua,Peng, Xue-Hong,Yu, Ping,Xu, Xiao-Yuan,Cai, Er-Hui,Guo, Pi,Li, Ke Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.1

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy for resectable esophageal carcinoma has been a focus of study, but no agreement has been reached on clinical randomized controlled trials and relevant systematic evaluation. The purpose of this study was to perform a meta-analysis on published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgery with surgery alone for resectable esophageal carcinoma. Medline and manual searches was conducted in PubMed, ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology) meeting summary, Embase, the Cochrane Library (up to October 2010), Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP Database, Wanfang Database. The selection contents were to identify all published and unpublished RCTs that compared neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgery with surgery alone for resectable esophageal carcinoma. Sixteen RCTs which included 2,594 patients were selected. The risk ratio (RR) (95% confidence interval [CI]; P value), expressed as neoadjuvant chemotherapy and surgery versus surgery alone (treatment versus control), was 1.02 (0.95, 1.10; P=0.54) for 1-year survival, 1.29 (1.13, 1.47; P=0.0001) for 3-year survival, 1.31 (1.13, 1.51; P=0.0003) for 5-year survival, 1.00 (0.95, 1.04; P= 0.85) for rate of resection and 0.89 (0.64, 1.23; P=0.48) for operative mortality. The results showed that neoadjuvant chemotherapy for resectable esophageal carcinoma can raise the overall survival rate of patients with esophageal carcinoma, but it does not affect treatment-related mortality.

      • Plumbagin from Plumbago Zeylanica L Induces Apoptosis in Human Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cell Lines through NF-κB Inactivation

Xu, Tong-Peng,Shen, Hua,Liu, Ling-Xiang,Shu, Yong-Qian Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4

Objective: To detect effects of plumbagin on proliferation and apoptosis in non-small cell lung cancer cell lines, and investigate the underlying mechanisms. Materials and Methods: Human non-small cell lung cancer cell lines A549, H292 and H460 were treated with various concentrations of plumbagin. Cell proliferation rates was determined using both cell counting kit-8 (CCK-8) and clonogenic assays. Apoptosis was detected by annexin V/propidium iodide double-labeled flow cytometry and TUNEL assay. The levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) were detected by flow cytometry. Activity of NF-${\kappa}B$ was examined by electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) and luciferase reporter assay. Western blotting was used to assess the expression of both NF-${\kappa}B$ regulated apoptotic-related gene and activation of p65 and $I{\kappa}B{\kappa}$. Results: Plumbagin dose-dependently inhibited proliferation of the lung cancer cells. The IC50 values of plumbagin in A549, H292, and H460 cells were 10.3 ${\mu}mol/L$, 7.3 ${\mu}mol/L$, and 6.1 ${\mu}mol/L$ for 12 hours, respectively. The compound concentration-dependently induced apoptosis of the three cell lines. Treatment with plumbagin increased the intracellular level of ROS, and inhibited the activation of NK-${\kappa}B$. In addition to inhibition of NF-${\kappa}B$/p65 nuclear translocation, the compound also suppressed the degradation of $I{\kappa}B{\kappa}$. ROS scavenger NAC highly reversed the effect of plumbagin on apoptosis and inactivation of NK-${\kappa}B$ in H460 cell line. Treatment with plumbagin also increased the activity of caspase-9 and caspase-3, downregulated the expression of Bcl-2, upregulated the expression of Bax, Bak, and CytC. Conclusions: Plumbagin inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis in human lung cancer cells through an NF-${\kappa}B$-regulated mitochondrial-mediated pathway, involving activation of ROS.

      • Design of A Double-Ridged Horn Antenna

        ( Peng Xu ),( Jiongchen Li ),( Bierng-chearl Ahn ) 충북대학교 산업과학기술연구소 2017 산업과학기술연구 논문집 Vol.31 No.2

In this paper, a systematic design of a double-ridged horn antenna is presented. The double ridge profile is approximated with a piecewise linear curve and the ridge gap is determined from an exponential taper in the wave impedance. The location of the coaxial probe and the size of the back cavity are optimized for the widest bandwidth. The reflection coefficient, gain and phase patterns of the horn are analyzed. The designed horn has reflection coefficient of less than -10dB and gain of 9-18dB at 9-33GHz.

Capacitors Energy Strategy Based Cascaded H-Bridge Converter for DC Port Failures

Peng, Xu,Liu, Xiaohan,Yang, Guolong,Liu, Xijun,Gao, Lixia,Zhu, Xinyu The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2019 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.19 No.5

In this paper, a capacitors energy strategy based Cascaded H-bridge Converter (CHBC) for steady DC link voltage is proposed, which allow the CHBC to work while DC power fails. The topology of the CHBC is analyzed to construct the proposed strategy. The capacitors energy strategy is deduced based on the principle that the DC link voltage should be steady, the switch state should be smooth and the switch frequency should be normal. Experiments based on a three-module prototype, including static experiment, start experiment and step change experiment, proves the correctness of the strategy. They also verified the excellent fault tolerance ability and good dynamic performance of the proposed strategy.

Segmental Liver Stiffness Evaluated with Magnetic Resonance Elastography Is Responsive to Endovascular Intervention in Patients with Budd-Chiari Syndrome

        Peng Xu,Lulu Lyu,Haitao Ge,Muhammad Umair Sami,Panpan Liu,Chunfeng Hu,Kai Xu 대한영상의학회 2019 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.20 No.5

Objective: To assess segmental liver stiffness (LS) with MRI before and after endovascular intervention in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). Materials and Methods: Twenty-three patients (13 males and 10 females; mean age, 42.6 ± 12.6 years; age range, 31–56 years) with BCS as a primary liver disease were recruited for this study. Two consecutive magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) examinations were performed before the endovascular treatment. Fifteen patients who underwent endovascular intervention treatment also had follow-up MRE scans within three days after the procedure. LS was measured in three liver segments: the right posterior, right anterior, and left medial segments. Inter-reader and inter-exam repeatability were analyzed with intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) and Bland-Altman analysis. Segmental LS and clinical characteristics before and after the intervention were also compared. Results: Within three days of the endovascular intervention, all three segmental LS values decreased: LS of the right posterior segment = 7.23 ± 0.88 kPa (before) vs. 4.94 ± 0.84 kPa (after), LS of the right anterior segment = 7.30 ± 1.06 kPa (before) vs. 4.77 ± 0.85 kPa (after), and LS of the left medial segment = 7.22 ± 0.87 kPa (before) vs. 4.87 ± 0.72 kPa (after) (all p = 0.001). There was a significant correlation between LS changes and venous pressure gradient changes before and after treatments (r = 0.651, p = 0.009). The clinical manifestations of all 15 patients significantly improved after therapy. The MRE repeatability was excellent, with insignificant variations (inter-reader, ICC = 0.839–0.943: inter-examination, ICC = 0.765–0.869). Bland–Altman analysis confirmed excellent agreement (limits of agreement, 13.4–19.4%). Conclusion: Segmental LS measured by MRE is a promising repeatable quantitative biomarker for monitoring the treatment response to minimally invasive endovascular intervention in patients with BCS.

      • Spectral Image Reconstruction of Chinese Ink and Wash Painting Based on Self-training with Multispectral Imaging

        Peng Xu,Jueqin Qiu,Haisong Xu,Zhengnan Ye 한국색채학회 2017 AIC 2017 Jeju Vol.2017 No.10

The Chinese ink and wash painting is a special type of Chinese classic paintings. In this study, the spectral image of the Chinese ink and wash painting was reconstructed with multispectral imaging based on a self-training method. By partitioning the multispectral images of the painting with k-means clustering algorithm, the training samples are directly selected from the painting itself to restrain the deterioration of the spectral estimation caused by the material inconsistence between the training samples and the object painting in the conventional spectral reconstruction technique. In each cluster, only one sample which owns minimum mean distance to all the other samples residing in the cluster is chosen as the training sample. The spectral image of a Chinese ink and wash painting was reconstructed with a filter wheel based multispectral camera, indicating that the recovered spectral reflectance of the Chinese ink and wash painting based on this self-training method is more accurate than that based on the commercial color target.

The effect of pre- and after-treatment of sevoflurane on central ischemia tolerance and the underlying mechanisms

Xu, Hao,Mei, Xiao-Peng,Xu, Li-Xian The Korean Dental Society of Anesthsiology 2018 Journal of Dental Anesthesia and Pain Medicine Vol.18 No.1

In recent years, with continuous research efforts targeted at studying the effects of pre- and after-treatment of inhaled anesthetics, significant progress has been made regarding the common clinical use of low concentrations of inhaled sevoflurane and its effect on induced central ischemia tolerance by pre- and post-treatment. In this study, we collected, analyzed, classified, and summarized recent literature regarding the effect of sevoflurane on central ischemia tolerance and its related mechanisms. In addition, we provide a theoretical basis for the clinical application of sevoflurane to protect the central nervous system and other important organs against ischemic injury.
