Coordination of an Amino Alcohol Schiff Base Ligand Toward Cd(II)

        Mardani, Zahra,Hakimi, Mohammad,Moeini, Keyvan,Mohr, Fabian Korean Chemical Society 2019 대한화학회지 Vol.63 No.1

A potentially tetradentate Schiff base ligand, 2-((2-((pyridin-2-ylmethylene)amino)ethyl)amino)ethan-1-ol (PMAE), and its cadmium(II) complex, [$Cd(PMAE)I_2$] (1), were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectroscopies and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the crystal structure of 1, the cadmium atom has a slightly distorted square-pyramidal geometry and a $CdN_3I_2$ environment in which the PMAE acts as an $N_3$-donor. In the crystal packing of the complex, the alcohol and amine groups of the coordinated ligands participate in hydrogen bonding with iodide ions and form $R^2{_2}(14)$ and $R^2{_2}(8)$ hydrogen bond motifs, respectively. In addition to the hydrogen bonds, the crystal network is stabilized by ${\pi}-{\pi}$ stacking interactions between pyridine rings. The thermodynamic stability of the isolated ligand and its cadmium complex along with their charge distribution patterns were studied by DFT and NBO analysis.

Reaction and Theoretical Study of the Coordination of an N2O-Donor Amino Alcoholic Ligand Toward Group 12 Metals Mixtures

        Mardani, Zahra,Moeini, Keyvan,Kazemshoar-Duzduzani, Reza Korean Chemical Society 2019 대한화학회지 Vol.63 No.3

A series of reactions between an amino alcoholic ligand, cis-2-((2-((2-hydroxyethyl)amino)ethyl)amino)cyclohexan-1-ol (HEAC), with the mixtures of group 12 metals including, $HgCl_2/CdCl_2$, $HgCl_2/CdI_2$, $ZnCl_2/CdCl_2$ and $ZnCl_2/CdCl_2/HgCl_2$ was experimentally and theoretically studied to determine the most stable product of these reactions. Furthermore, the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) studies were done to evaluate the theoretical results. The products were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, Raman, $^1H$ NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Based on these investigations a binuclear structure of cadmium, [$Cd_2(HEAC)_2({\mu}-Cl)_2Cl_2$] (1), is the most stable product that was formed in all studied reactions between HEAC and metals mixtures. In this structure, the cadmium atom has a $CdN_2O({\mu}-Cl)_2Cl$ environment and distorted octahedral geometry.

1D-Coordination Polymer Formed by Structural Conversion of an Oxazolidine Ligand in Reaction with the Copper(II) Halides

        Mardani, Zahra,Golsanamlou, Vali,Jabbarzadeh, Zahra,Moeini, Keyvan,Carpenter-Warren, Cameron,Slawin, Alexandra M.Z.,Woollins, J. Derek Korean Chemical Society 2018 대한화학회지 Vol.62 No.5

A 1D-coordination polymer of $1D-\{Cu({\mu}-picolinato)_2\}$ $\{Hakimi,\;2012\;\sharp73\}_n$ (1), was prepared by the reactions between 2-(2-(pyridin-2-yl)oxazolidin-3-yl)ethanol (AEPC) ligand and $CuCl_2$ or $CuBr_2$. The product was characterized by elemental analysis, UV-Vis, FT-IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray analysis results revealed that the AEPC ligand, after reactions with the copper(II) chloride or bromide, gives the same product - $1D-\{Cu({\mu}-picolinato)_2\}_n$ (1). The coordination modes for various picolinate-based ligands were extracted from the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). In the crystal structure of 1, the copper atom has a $CuN_2O_4$ environment and octahedral geometry, which is distorted by elongation of the axial bond lengths due to the Jahn-Teller effect.

Rotator cuff repair with or without proximal end detachment for long head of the biceps tendon tenodesis

        Mardani-Kivi, Mohsen,Asadi, Kamran,Izadi, Amin,Leili, Ehsan Kazemnejad Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society 2022 대한견주관절의학회지 Vol.25 No.2

Background: Rotator cuff tears cause pathologies of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT). One of the surgical treatments for such a tear is LHBT tenodesis to the humerus. This study aims to compare simultaneous rotator cuff repair and LHBT tenodesis with or without detachment of the proximal end of the LHBT (PELHBT) from its site of adhesion to the glenoid. Methods: This retrospective study involved patients affected by LHBT pathology with rotator cuff tear. The patients were divided into two groups, with or without PELHBT detachment from the glenoid. Therapeutic outcomes were investigated by evaluation of patient satisfaction, pain based on visual analog scale, shoulder function based on Constant score and simple shoulder test, and biceps muscle strength based on the manual muscle testing grading system before surgery, at 6 months, and at the final visit after surgery. Results: Groups 1 and 2 comprised 23 and 26 patients, respectively, who showed no significant differences in demographic characteristics (p>0.05). Shoulder function, biceps muscle strength, pain, and satisfaction rate improved over time (p<0.05) but were not significantly different between the two groups (p>0.05). No post-surgical complication was found in either group. Conclusions: There was no difference in final outcomes of tenodesis with or without detachment of the PELHBT from the supraglenoid tubercle. Such tendon detachment is not necessary.

Can indirect magnetic resonance arthrography be a good alternative to magnetic resonance imaging in diagnosing glenoid labrum lesions?: a prospective study

        Mardani-Kivi, Mohsen,Alizadeh, Ahmad,Asadi, Kamran,Izadi, Amin,Leili, Ehsan Kazemnejad,arzpeyma, Sima Fallah Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society 2022 대한견주관절의학회지 Vol.25 No.3

Background: This study was designed to evaluate and compare the diagnostic value of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and indirect magnetic resonance arthrography (I-MRA) imaging with those of arthroscopy and each other. Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted in 2020. All patients who tested positive for labrum lesions during that year were included in the study. The patients underwent conservative treatment for 6 weeks. In the event of no response to conservative treatment, MRI and I-MRA imaging were conducted, and the patients underwent arthroscopy to determine their ultimate diagnosis and treatment plan. Imaging results were assessed at a 1-week interval by an experienced musculoskeletal radiologist. Image interpretation results and arthroscopy were recorded in the data collection form. Results: Overall, 35 patients comprised the study. Based on the kappa coefficient, the results indicate that the results of both imaging methods are in agreement with the arthroscopic findings, but the I-MRA consensus rate is higher than that of MRI (0.612±0.157 and 0.749±0.101 vs. 0.449±0.160 and 0.603±0.113). The sensitivity, specificity, negative predictive value, positive predictive value, and accuracy of MRI in detecting labrum tears were 77.77%, 75.00%, 91.30%, 50.00%, and 77.14%, respectively, and those of I-MRA were 88.88%, 75.00%, 92.30%, 66.66%, and 85.71%. Conclusions: Here, I-MRA showed higher diagnostic value than MRI for labral tears. Therefore, it is recommended that I-MRA be used instead of MRI if there is an indication for potential labrum lesions.

      • Decreased Serum Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1 in Salivary Gland Tumor Patients

Mardani, Maryam,Andisheh-Tadbir, Azadeh,Khademi, Bijan,Melekzadeh, Mahyar,Vaziri, Lida Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.7

Background: The monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1/CCL2) is a potent chemoattractant for natural killer cells, monocytes, and memory T lymphocytes. However, any role in the genesis of salivary gland tumors (SGT) is unknown. To assess the diagnostic relevance of chemokines in SGT, MCP-1 levels in the serum of patients were investigated in association with tumor progression and clinical aggressiveness. Materials and Methods: Using an ELISA kit, we assessed and compared the circulating levels of MCP-1 in blood serum of 70 SGT patients with 44 healthy control samples. Results: The results of this study showed that the concentration of MCP-1 was significantly lower in patients with benign ($463.8{\pm}158.5pg/ml$, P=0.033) and malignant ($454.8{\pm}190.4pg/ml$, P=0.007) SGT than in healthy subjects ($645.7{\pm}338.9$). No significant difference in mean serum levels of MCP-1 was observed between the benign and malignant group (p=0.9). While MCP-1 levels were lower in patients with an advanced clinical stage, advanced tumor size, higher tumor grade, or lymph node involvement, but the mean MCP-1 level between groups showed no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Conclusions: MCP-1 levels in the serum of patients with SGT were decreased, indicating that this might a good marker for discriminating patients with SGT from healthy people. However, no clear-cut relationship was detected between MCP-1 levels and clinicopathologic factors, and MCP-1 is not a good marker for evaluating tumor dissemination.

A Randomized Clinical Trial to Assess the Effect of Medication Therapy Plus tDCS on Problem-solving and Emotion Regulation of Patients with Bipolar Disorder Type I

        Parnaz Mardani,Hossein Javdani,Ahmad Zolghadriha,Seyedeh Elnaz Mousavi,Mohsen Dadashi 대한정신약물학회 2023 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.21 No.3

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of medication therapy combined with transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in improving problem-solving and emotion regulation abilities of patients with bipolar disorder (BD) type I. Methods: This is a randomized clinical trial conducted on 30 patients with BD I, randomly assigned into two groups of Medication (n = 15, receiving mood stabilizers including 2−5 tablets of lithium 300 mg, sodium valproate 200 mg, and carbamazepine 200 mg) and Medication + tDCS (n = 15, receiving mood stabilizers plus tDCS with 2 mA intensity over the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for 10 days, two sessions per day each for 20 minutes). The Tower of London (TOL) test and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) were used for assessments before, immediately, and 3 months after interventions. Results: There was a significant difference between groups in total ERQ (p = 0.001) and its cognitive reappraisal domain (p = 0.000) which were increased, but the difference was not significant in its expressive suppression domain (p > 0.05). After 3 months, their level decreased. In examining problem-solving variable, the combined therapy could significantly reduce only the total number of errors under TOL test (p = 0.00), but it remained unchanged after 3 months. Conclusion: Medication therapy plus tDCS is effective in improving problem-solving and emotional regulation (cognitive reappraisal) skills of patients with BD I.

Horizontal instability after acromioclavicular joint reduction using the two-hole technique is preferred over the loop technique: a single-blind randomized clinical trial

        Mohsen Mardani-Kivi,Kamran Asadi,Ehsan Kazemnejad Leili,Keyvan Hashemi-Motlagh,Amin Izadi,Mona Pishgahpour,Zohre Darabipour 대한견주관절학회 2022 대한견주관절의학회지 Vol.25 No.3

Background: Most acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injuries are caused by direct trauma to the shoulders, and various methods and techniques are used to treat them; however, none of the options can be considered the gold standard. This study examines the horizontal stability of the ACJ after a complete dislocation was repaired using one of two Ethibond suture techniques, the loop technique and the two holes in the clavicle technique. Methods: In this single-blind, randomized clinical trial, 104 patients diagnosed with complete ACJ dislocation type V were treated using Ethibond sutures with either the loop technique or the two holes in the clavicle technique. Horizontal changes in the ACJ were radiographically assessed in the lateral axial view, and shoulder function was evaluated by the Constant (CS) and Taft (TS) scores at intervals of 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery. Results: The horizontal stability of the ACJ was better with the two-hole technique than the loop technique at all measurement times. CS and TS changes showed a significant upward trend over time with both techniques. The mean CS and TS at the final visit were 95.2 and 11.6 with the loop technique and 94.0 and 11.9 with the two-hole technique, respectively. The incidence of superficial infections caused by the subcutaneous pins was the same in the two groups. Conclusions: Due to the improved ACJ stability with the two-hole technique, it appears to be a more suitable option than the loop technique for AC joint reduction.
