        Influence of post-deposition annealing temperature on structural and electrical properties of TiW contact thin films

        This paper presents an efect of annealing temperature on microstructure and electrical properties of TiW contact flms deposited on ITO thin flm at a room temperature using DC magnetron sputtering system. As-deposited TiW contact flms are annealed at 200, 400 and 600 °C under vacuum environment. The microstructural properties are investigated using XRD, SEM and AFM. The electrical characteristics are characterized by linear transmission line method (L-TLM). The SEM and XRD investigations show that the TiW contact flm is composed of circular grains, and the crystals within the flm are oriented in either the (110) or (200) direction. An increase in grain size is observed on annealed TiW contact flms compared to as-deposited flms as investigated from SEM and AFM analysis. Annealing TiW contact flms at 600 °C improves their ohmic properties, reducing surface roughness and resulting in a specifc contact resistance of 6.25× 10−2 Ω cm2 at room temperature. These contacts are suitable for high-temperature sensor applications.

        Generation Expansion Planning for a Real-world Power System: Aiming Towards Cost and Environmental Emission Minimization by Penetrating Huge Renewable Energy Sources

        A power system planning must involve the Electricity demand forecasting (EDF) and Generation expansion planning (GEP) for better operation. The optimal plan should consider both qualitative and quantitative factors such as error, cost and reliability of the power system. In this study, EDF and GEP problem have been solved till the year 2030 for Tamil Nadu, an Indian state. The formulation of EDF problem has been modeled based on the input variables such as population, Gross State domestic product (GSDP) and per capita income, and has been solved using Genetic algorithm (GA), Artifi cial immune system (AIS) and Diff erential evolution (DE). While analyzing the results of EDF problem, DE provides optimal result with Minimum mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). Continually, short term (6-year) and long term (12-year) GEP problem have been solved using DE by considering minimization of cost and environmental eff ects as the main objectives. To achieve these objectives, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) have been integrated in diff erent penetration levels such as 0–10%, 10–20%, 20–30%, 30–40%, and 40–50% on GEP problem and its impacts have been investigated. The results of DE have been validated with Dynamic Programing (DP). The outcomes of the study have assisted the power system planners while decision making in introducing Renewable Energy Sources (RES) on a real-world power system.

        Nutritional Disorders, Analytical Diagnosis and Nutrient Guide for Mulberry, Morus indica L.

        Due to recent scientific innovations in mulberry cultivation, leaf yield has been increased manifold. However, with successive leaf harvest, a quantum drop in leaf yield and quality has been noted. This inturn has affected the silkworm rearing and farmers suffered by the frequent crop failures. This is mainly due to nutrient deficiencies in mulberry leaf. Moreover, no complete information is available about hunger signs of nutritional disorders, analytical diagnosis and critical levels of nutrients required. The present paper, thus, may serve as an important nutrient guide for identification of hunger signs, leaf nutrients status under deficiency and critical levels of the elements namely N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn requirements for higher leaf yield and quality. The leaf nutrient status provided may help chemist for correcting the soil status. Besides, an integration of mulberry intercropping with legumes and applications of neem and castor oil cakes, VA-mycorrhizal inoculation, biofertilizer and vermicompost are suggested as integrated nutrient management for sustainable sericulture industry. Based on the information described in this paper, a model needs to be framed for maintaining continuous supply of nutrients to obtain desired quantity and quality of mulberry leaf for successful silkworm cocoon crop and increasing overall silk productivity.

        The inhibition of molting fluid enzymes of Pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) by an aspartic protease inhibitor: Its effects on insect development

        In this study, the inhibition of molting fluid enzymes from Helicoverpa armigera by an aspartic protease inhibitor, Alkalophilic Thermophilic Bacillus Inhibitor (ATBI) purified from Bacillus sp. is reported. The in vitro experiments showed 80% inhibition (IC50= 48 µM) of hemoglobin hydrolyzing and 95% inhibition (IC50= 35 µM) of chitin hydrolyzing activity from molting fluid by ATBI (IC50 value is the ATBI concentration for 50% inhibition of total enzymatic activity). The treatment of H. armigera larvae with 400 µM ATBI recorded 20% larval mortality, 27.77% deformed pupae and 12.22% deformed adults. The LC50 value (Concentration of ATBI calculated to give 50% mortality) calculated for insect population was found to be 330.06 µM. Similarly, significant variations in mean larval and pupal weight, no. of eggs laid per female and percent hatching of eggs were observed at higher concentrations of ATBI. The results may provide the basis for the selection of non-host inhibitors to develop a H. armigera insecticide formulation.
