        Effect of Chromium Chloride on the Mechanical and Dielectric Properties of EPDM Rubber

        Measurements of Young’s modulus, dielectric loss and a.c. conductivity have been carried out on EPDM rubber samples loaded with different concentrations of CrCl3 (0,2,4 and 6 phr). The values of Young’s modulus was found to be linearly dependent on the CrCl3 content. Variation of the dielectric loss with temperature showed that CrCl3 may act as plasticizer. However, at higher frequencies the dielectric loss was found to be independent of frequency and the rubber samples may behave as non-polar dielectric. Investigations of the a.c conductivity suggested that the conduction in these rubber samples can be described by small polaron tunneling. In addition, conductivity was found to increase with CrCl3 content.

        Phytochemical and Pharmacological Investigations on Moringa peregrina (Forssk) Fiori

        Investigation of M. peregrina aerial parts revealed the isolation and identification of 4-flavonoidalcompounds, quercetin, quercetin-3-0-rutinoside (rutin), chrysoeriol-7-0-rhamnoside and 6,8,3/,5/-tetramethoxyapigenin. The compounds were identified by TLC, PC, MS, and H1-NMR. The fatty acids and unsaponifiablematter were studied. The LD50 for M. peregrina was 113.4 mg/100 g b.wt. Repeated intraperitoneal injection of 1/20 and 1/10 LD50 (5.67 mg and 11.34 mg/100 g b.wt.) of defatted alcoholic extract of M. peregrina for 30 daysinduced significant decrease in serum glucose, liver enzymes and lipid components. M. peregrina administeredi.p., 30 min prior to carrageenan at the above doses significantly inhibited the rat paw oedema response. In acuteM. peregrina exhibited markedanalgesic properties. In addition, M. peregrina administered at time of indomethacin injection inhibited thedevelopment of gastric lesions in rats.

        Management of Charcoal Rot of Sesame by Seed Soaking in Medicinal Plant Extracts and Hot Water

        Macrophomina phaseolina causing charcoal rot was isolated from sesame seeds (cvs. Giza 32 and Shandawel-3)collected from different localities of Assiut, Sohage and El-Minia Governorates. The fungus was found in the highest frequently in samples collected from Assiut Governorate followed by Sohag and finally EL Minia Governorate. The obtained isolates were different in their virulence on the tested sesame cvs. Also, they differed in their growth nature including colony color and sclerotial production. The color of colonies of the pathogen seem to be correlated with density of sclerotial formation. Aqueous extracts of Majorna, Wild chamomile,Geranium oil and Nees plants were highly toxic to tested isolates of M. phaseolina, in vitro. On the other hand the rest of the tested aqueous extracts had no effect. Under greenhouse conditions in 2005 and 2006seasons, soaking seeds of sesame before sowing in aqueous extracts of Eucalyptus, Nerium, Ocimum and Roesmary plants decreased the disease incidence. Aqueous extracts of Eucalyptus and Ocimum were the most effective treatment. Dipping sesame seeds in hot water at 60oC for 5 minutes increased seed germination of Giza 32 and Shandawel-3 cvs. followed by 55 oC, 50oC and 45oC, while 40oC treatment resulted the lowest seed germination rate. Dipping sesame seeds in hot water at different temperature before planting decreased seed,seedling and charcoal rots. Soaking seeds in hot water at 60oC increased greatly plant height and decreased seed,seedling rot and charcoal rot followed by 55oC and 50oC, under greenhouse condition.

        New issue of GaN nanoparticles solar cell

        This study involves the synthesis of gallium nitride (GaN) nanoparticles (NPs) under different low temperatures using a simple chemical method. The nanoparticles are spin coated on Si substrate to fabricate the solar cell. The FESEM images obtained indicate the presence of cubic GaN nanoparticle with average diameter of 50 nm synthesized at 90 ℃. The spin coating technique deposited n-GaN NPs/Si(111) produced a heterojunction solar cell with fill factor of 0.56 and conversion efficiency of 2.06%. Based on these results, this study proposes a novel low cost technique for the fabrication of GaN NPs solar cells.

        Practical investigation of a monopod fabrication method and the numerical investigation of its up-righting process

        The principal purpose of this paper is to present a novel two phases rational scenario applied in constructing an offshore monopod platform; in which the two phases are the all-ground horizontal construction phase and the post-construction phase. Concerning the all-ground construction phase, a brief investigation of its different stages,i.e., pre-fabrication, fabrication, pre-assembling, positioning, assembling, and surface finishing is introduced. The important practical aspects of such construction phase are investigated without going into the nitty-gritty of the details involved therein. Concerning the post-construction phase, a clear investigation of its sequential stages, i.e., lifting, moving and up-righting is introduced. A finite element model (FEM) of the monopod platform is created to perform the structural analysis necessary to decide the suspension points/devices and the handling scenario during the various stages of the post-construction phase on a rational wise. Such structural analysis is performed within the framework of the three dimensional quasi-static modeling and analysis aiming at simulating the realistic handling condition, and hence introducing a reliable physical interpretation of the numerical results. For the whole effort to be demonstrated efficiently,the results obtained are analyzed, the conclusions are presented, and few related recommendations are suggested.

        Fans are often tested without downstream blockage and, thus, the performance is considerably different when the fan is mounted in a vehicle as part of a cooling system and where high blockage effect is present downstream. The aim of the present work is to analyze by laser Doppler velocimetry LDV measurements the topology of the flow induced by a fan incorporated in a simplified underhood model reproducing engine blockage and to study the blockage effect of the engine positioning on the flow induced by the fan. The distance between the fan and the engine block affects the mean flow axial velocity U. The vertical velocity component W is greatly influenced by the variation of the distance between the fan and the engine block, both in magnitude and topology.

        Synthesis and Antiinflammatory Activity of Novel Indazolones

        In this study, a series of new $N^2$ substituted 1,2-dihydro-3H-indazol-3-ones (3a-d) as well as their condensed pyrazolo, pyridazino derivatives such as pyridazino[1,2-a]indazole-6,9,11-triones (4a-h) and 3,9-dioxo-3H,9H-pyrazolo[1,2-a]indazole (7) were synthesized. The antiinflammatory activity of some synthesized compounds was determined by carrageenan-induced rat paw edema technique using diclofenac as reference drug. The pharmacological data showed that most of the tested compounds exhibited a significant long lasting antiinflammatory activity, which in the case of compound 3b was superior to that of diclofenac.
