Breeding of Productive Bivoltine Hybrid, CSR16×CSR17 of Silkworm Bombyx mori L.

        ( N. Mal Reddy ),( H. K. Basavaraja ),( N. Suresh Kumar ),( P. G. Joge ),( G. V. Kalpana ),( S. B. Dandin ),( R. K. Datta ) 한국잠사학회 2007 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.8 No.2

The breeding work was initiated by utilizing two Japanese hybrids namely C135×N134 and N137×C146 along with two evolved Indian breeds, J14 and A24. The breed CSR16 which is characterized with marked larvae and white dumbbell cocoons was evolved from the Japanese hybrid C135×N134 by crossing with J14, while the breed CSR17 which is characterized with plain larvae and white oval cocoons was evolved from the Japanese hybrid N137×C146 by crossing with A24. The hybrid of these evolved breeds i.e., CSR16×CSR17 has shown superior over control hybrid KA×NB4D2 and on par with the ruling hybrid of CSR2×CSR4. The hybrid CSR16×CSR17 was authorized during 1999 by Central Silk Board, Bangalore, Government of India for commercial exploitation during favourable months based on national level race authorization test.

Vol.2008 No.-

Drilling is one of the most commonly used machining processes in various industries such as automotive, aircraft and aerospace, die and molds, home appliance, medical and electronic equipment industries. In recent years, the improvement in the coatings of carbide tools and in the chemical and mechanical properties of tool materials has caused the increase of tool working life in machining processes. This fact has allowed the use of so called dry machining technology. The main objective of this work is to compare the performance of various coated carbide drills in dry drilling of SCM 440 (medium-carbon chrome-molybdenum steel) material based on the combined study of the evolution of tool wear and quality of machined holes. Tool wear was measured with optical microscope and quality of holes was estimated in terms of geometrical accuracy. Taking into consideration of all the conclusions reached m this work, the most important one is depending on the application of the machined component, the state of the work-piece could be more restrictive than the tool wear, and the end of tool life should be established from the point of view of controlled damage in a work-piece.

Anti-inflammatory and Antimicrobial activities of Petroleum ether and Ethanol extracts of Scutia myrtina (Rhamnaceae)

        N Kritheka,R Sambath Kumar,S Suresh Kumar,N Venkateswara Murthy,R Shanmuga Sundram,P Perumal 경희대학교 융합한의과학연구소 2008 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.8 No.4

The aim of the present study is to investigate the anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial activity of petroleum ether and ethanol extracts of Scutia myrtina (Family: Rhamnaceae). In antiinflammatory activity carrageenan and histamine induced paw oedema and cotton pellet induced granuloma for acute and chronic inflammatory models were studied in Wister albino rats. Based on the results of the present study it can be concluded that petroleum ether and ethanol extract of Scutia myrtina at 400 mg/kg has potential anti-inflammatory effect and they act in a dose dependent manner. Both extracts of Scutia myrtina showed antimicrobial activity against all bacterial and fungal strains tested at the concentration of 100 μg/ml. From the result, it can be concluded that the Scutia myrtina contain antibacterial and antifungal principle. Further more, besides the confirmation of the popular use; the obtained results demonstrate this herbal drug to represent a new source of antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agent. • Experimental Study to Improve Performance of Turning AISI1040 Steel using Solid Lubricant

        N. Suresh Kumar Reddy,Kwang-Sup Shin(신광섭),Min-Yang Yang(양민양) 한국생산제조학회 2007 한국공작기계학회 춘계학술대회논문집 Vol.2007 No.-

It is generally considered that the heat produced during the machining process is critical in terms of workpiece quality. So, effective control of heat generated at the cutting zone is essential to ensure the workpiece quality in machining, which can be achieved by using coolants. As the coolants are relatively inaccessible to the machining zone due to the typical nature of the process, it has been attempted to study the performance of machining of AISI 1040 steel using molybdenum disulphide as a solid lubricant in the present work. The experimental set up (solid lubricant powder feeder) for solid lubricant assisted machining was designed and built. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of molybdenum disulphide as solid lubricant in the zone of machining. In the first stage of this work, experiments have been carried out to investigate the role of solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulphide on surface finish and chip thickness of the product in machining an AISI 1040 steel. In the second stage, a comparative performance analysis of molybdenum disulphide assisted machining with wet machining has been conducted. Results indicate that there is a considerable improvement in the performance of machining AISI 1040 steel using molybdenum disulphide as a solid lubricant when compared with wet machining in terms of surface finish and chip thickness.

Studies on the Effect of High Temperature on Fl Hybrids Between Polyvoltine and Bivoltine Silkworm Races of Bombyx mori L.

Kumar, N.Suresh,Yamamoto, T.,Basavaraja, H.K.,Datta, R.K. Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2001 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.2 No.2

In order to introduce bivoltine races in a tropical country like India, it is necessary to have stability in cocoon crop under high temperature environments. Unlike any temperate country like Japan, the rearing conditions/environment, climatic conditions, quality of mulberry leaf and incidence of diseases are unpredictable in India. Geneticists and breeders of all the sericultural countries have experienced the influence of environment during the process of breeding. in order to select efficiently the breeds with high temperature tolerance, it is verb important to analyse clearly the heritability nature of high temperature tolerance. In light of the above, the present study was undertaken to determine the effect of high temperature treatment of (A) $35{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and 85${\pm}$5% RH for 24 hrs continuously, (B) $35{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and 85${\pm}$5% RH for 48 hrs continuously and (C) the control (25${\pm}1^{\circ}$ and 65${\pm}$5% RH in the normal rearing condition from the $3^{rd}of5^{th}$ instar on the pure races such as Moria, Nl37 and Cl46 as well as their Fl hybrids. The overall performance indicate that the hybrids are mare tolerant than the pure races. it was also observed that the overall performance declined in those batches where 48 hrs treatment was given. The most interesting observation noticed in this study was that there was maternal effect regarding temperature tolerance as evident from the better performance of those hybrids where the female parent used was more tolerant as pure race.
