In this study, we examined the influence of long-range transport of dust particles and air pollutants on the photochemistry of NO3 on Jeju Island, Korea (33.17°N, 126.10°E) during the Asian Dust-Storm (ADS) period of April 2001. Three ADS events were observed during the periods of 10~12, 13~14, and 25~26 April. Average concentration level of nighttime NO3 on Jeju Island during the ADS period was estimated to be about 2×108 molecules cm-3 (~9 pptv). Decreases in NO3 levels during the ADS period was likely to be determined mainly by the enhancement of the N2O5 heterogeneous reaction on dust aerosol surfaces. The reaction of N2O5 on aerosol surfaces was a more important sink for nighttime NO3 during the ADS due to the significant loading of dust particles. The reaction of NO3 with NMHCs and the gas-phase reaction of N2O5 with water vapor were both significant loss mechanisms during the study period, especially during the NADS. However, dry deposition of these oxidized nitrogen species and a heterogeneous reaction of NO3 were of no importance. Short-term observations of O3, NO2, DMS, and SO2 in the MBL indicated that concentrations of most of these chemical species were different between the ADS and non-Asian-Dust-Storm (NADS) periods, implying that their levels were affected sensitively by the differences in air mass trajectories.
Characterization of Cell Wall Proteins from the soo1-1/ret1-1 Mutant of Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Dong-WonLee,Ki-HyunKim,Se-ChulChun,Hee-MoonPark 한국미생물학회 2002 The journal of microbiology Vol.40 No.3
In order to investigate the function of Soo1p/α-COP during post-translational modification and intracellular transport of cell wall proteins in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, cell wall proteins from the soo1-1/ ret1-1 mutant cells were analyzed. SDS-PAGE analysis of biotin labeled cell wall proteins suggested that the soo1-1 mutation impairs post-translational modification of cell wall proteins, such as N- and/ or O-glycosylation. Analysis of cell wall proteins with antibodies against β-1,3-glucan and β-1,6-glucan revealed alteration of the linkage between cell wall proteins and β-glucans in the soo1-1 mutant cells. Compositional sugar analysis of the cell wall proteins also suggested that the soo1-1 mutation impairs glycosylation of cell wall protein in the ER, which is crucial for the maintenance of cell wall integrity.
A Simulation Study on the Efficiency of RFID at Container Terminal Gate System
Hyun Kim,Ki-Chan Nam 한국항해항만학회 2007 한국항해항만학회지 Vol.31 No.9
A container terminal gate is not only an entrance of containers, but also the first input point of containers' information. Therefore, to achieve the accuracy of container information, there are various containers' numbers recognition methods used. Gate productivity can significantly vary depending upon those recognition methods. Recently, RFID which is one of the u-IT businesses run by the Korean government is under consideration for application to the gate as an automatic system if RFID is used, it is expected to have both the qualitative benefits through avoiding defects of other systems and the quantitative benefits by improving productivity. Hence, this study aims to provide some insight on the benefits of RFID, and to compare productivity of the existing gate system with the RFID gate system based on computer simulation
