The current cross-national, cross racial, and cross cultural environment influences today’s new subjectivity formations. Such newly-created transnational subjects are even difficult to be classified as Asian American, as racial or national borders fall apart. In this context, this paper examines the work of Asian American woman playwright Young Jean Lee’s Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven. Songs of the Dragons Flying to Heaven employs frames of both stand-up and sketch comedies and exaggerates the representation of stereotypes against Korean Americans, Koreans, and white male Americans. Laughs generated by Bertolt Brecht’s “alienation effect” and conceptualized with a Sianne Ngai’s litery term, “ugly feeling” constantly lead the cosmopolitan audience to engage with the issues of race, gender, and ethnicity. The main plots of the play are two; one is the Artaud-like theater of cruelty where Korean women and a Korean-American woman show macho behaviors and another is the Brechtian epic theater where a white couple continues to find the meaning of their relationship. The two different plots do not interfere with each plot, but show all the characters try to expose their inner selves to the world and to stand up to a lot of suppression of minorities and of feminity they have experienced so far. Thus, a Young Jean Lee’s new version of racial comedy presents one stage where Koreans, Korean Americans, and white Americans can stand free as transnational.

It is very important to supply the diesel fuel from fuel tank to combustion chamber in the case of cold start procedure. the paraffin hydrocarbons are easily solidified at low fuel temperature and it can be blocking the fuel supply to the high pressure fuel pump. In order to reduce the fuel crystallization (Waxing), it have been used to develop not only cold flow additives but also the proper mounting design of fuel filter. Block heater in the fuel filter assembly have been also contained to improve the cold start and prevent blocking the fuel supply in Common Rail Direct Injection System. Cold flow evaluation test standards, however, is not proposed in diesel fuel supply system to predict the cold startability in diesel vehicle. Due to researching the cold flow parameters and evaluating cold flow performance, we suggest the cold flow evaluation test procedure in diesel vehicle.

The Man Who Planted Trees (1987) and The Last Mohican (1992) deal with the wounds of the natural environment and people who were hurt by the indiscriminate colonization of the Americas during the World Wars and the colonization of the Americas. First of all, The Man Who Planted Trees revives the ecological sensitivity of humanity that has been lost during the World Wars through the detailed sense of exquisite pastel animation. The Last Mohican shows the ecological view of North American Indians. In the mid-18th century, France and Britain struggled for power during the colonial period of the Americas. The Indians' ecological consciousness and attitude toward nature can be analyzed through the lives of the protagonist, Hawkeye, and the Indian tribes in the film. The idea of ecology, in harmony with nature and respects for all living beings, makes us see nature not as a place governed by the laws of survival, but as a collection of organisms that circulate and coexist together.

Recreated Reality by Female Bonds

This study aims to do a comparative study on Fingersmith(2005) and The Handmaiden(2016). Fingersmith, broadcasted on BBC Channel, was made based on Sarah Waters’ novel Fingersmith(2002) and it was reproduced by Korean Director Park Chan-wook’s The Handmaiden. Both of the two works mainly reveal women’s desire to escape from men’s oppression. The line of flight the women in the two works try to choose originates from men’s obsessive-compulsive neurosis and perversion and from the society where the social self of women was oppressed. While there exists a lot of criticism regarding lesbian relationship the women share, the two works have significant importance in shedding light on the whole processes of female bonds through which the women find their own desires and they are reborn as new subjects with social self.

Making Reborn Strong Subjectivity in African American Sports Films

This paper is to find African American’s reborn strong subjectivity through African American sports films. African American sports films mainly deal with rebelling against the white supremacy as human genre. Most of the films show the ways those African Americans seek for their own identities and the whole processes signify the resistance against whites’ oppression. All the constant struggles continually lead African American characters to make reborn strong subjectivities in America to achieve their American dreams. Hence, their series of winning reveal not only their own self-realization but also social integration among whites and non-whites. This paper will exam two films which reveal the ways African Americans make their own reborn strong subjectivities out of the white closed system: 42(2013) and Ali(2001). Finally, this research is to reveal the result that these American sports films have contributed to envisioning America as the liberal space where racial prejudice becomes more diminished and African Americans come to have rebellious persona in America.

A Biclustering Method for Time Series Analysis

Biclustering is a method of finding meaningful subsets of objects and attributes simultaneously, which may not be detected by traditional clustering methods. It is popularly used for the analysis of microarray data representing the expression levels of genes by conditions. Usually, biclustering algorithms do not consider a sequential relation between attributes. For time series data, however, bicluster solutions should keep the time sequence. This paper proposes a new biclustering algorithm for time series data by modifying the plaid model. The proposed algorithm introduces a parameter controlling an interval between two selected time points. Also, the pruning step preventing an over-fitting problem is modified so as to eliminate only starting or ending points. Results from artificial data sets show that the proposed method is more suitable for the extraction of biclusters from time series data sets. Moreover, by using the proposed method, we find some interesting observations from real-world time-course microarray data sets and apartment price data sets in metropolitan areas.

Comparing characteristics of peer interaction among children paired on the basis of social or cognitive abilities

본 연구의 목적은 유아의 사회적 능력과 인지적 능력을 토대로 두 종류의 쌍 집단을 구성하여 또래 상호작용의 차이를 탐구하는 것이다. 연구대상은 B시에 소재한 유치원에 재원 중인 5세 유아 20명(남자 12명, 여자 8명)이었다. 예비 연구 및 자료 수집은 2017년 11월 1일부터 2018년 2월 2일까지 총 13주에 걸쳐 진행되었다. 또래 상호작용을 위한 쌍 집단을 구성하기 위하여 전체 유아를 대상으로 유아의 사회적 능력을 평가하기 위하여 또래 상호작용 검사를, 인지적 능력을 평가하기 위하여 기하학적 능력에 대한 검사를 실시하였다. 각각의 검사 결과를 토대로 또래 상호작용 집단은 두 종류로, 즉 인지적 능력 집단과 사회적 능력 집단으로 구성되었다. 인지적 능력 집단은 유아의 인지적 능력은 높으나 사회적 능력이 낮은 유아가 두 능력이 모두 낮은 유아와 쌍을 이루는 집단이었고, 사회적 능력 집단은 유아의 인지적 능력은 낮으나 사회적 능력이 높은 유아가 두 능력이 모두 나은 유아와 쌍을 이루는 집단이었다. 두 집단 모두 12회동안 종이접기 활동을 실시하였으며 상호작용 과정을 녹화한 후 분석하고 비교하였다. 그 결과 인지적 능력을 토대로 한 또래 상호작용 집단보다 사회적 능력을 토대로 한또래 상호작용 집단이 자신의 순서에 집착하지 않고 참을성 있게 순서를 기다려 주었고, 협력적인 사회적 상호작용과 원활한 의사 소통을 보여줌으로써 긍정적인 또래 상호작용을 원활하게 유지하였다. 이는 유아교사가 협력활동을 위한 또래 상호작용에서 기존의 인지적 능력을 토대로 집단을 구성하는 것에서 나아가 유아의 사회적 능력을 고려하여 집단구성을 하는 것의 중요성을 나타내 주는 결과이다. The purpose of this study is to explore the different characteristics of peer interaction during a collaborative origami activity using two combinations of pairings. The study involved 20 five-year-olds(10 dyads) attending kindergarten in Busan, South Korea. The preliminary study and data collection of this study was conducted from November 1, 2017 to February 2, 2018 for a total of 13 weeks including winter vacation. Tests for peer interaction and geometric ability determined the pairings of children. Interactions within pairs were analyzed and compared after collaborative activity. The results revealed that the children paired according to social ability are patiently waiting their turn and showing collaborative interaction and smooth communication
