Korean English Learners’ Production Patterns of Word-Medial Consonant-Liquid Clusters

Vol.29 No.4

This study examines Korean English learners’ production patterns of word-medial consonant-liquid clusters C1C2, which are not phonotactically allowed in Korean. We conducted a production experiment using English stimulus words that were systematically constructed mainly based on word frequency and cluster position in relation to the morpheme boundary. While this study corroborates several findings from previous studies, it also unveils new insights. First, the highest production accuracy is observed when C1 is a stop, followed by a nasal, and then a liquid, when no morpheme boundary intervenes the cluster. Second, for words with C1 as a stop, words with the cluster contained within a single morpheme exhibit higher accuracy compared to those with the cluster spanning across morphemes. Third, the predominant error type varies with the nature of C1; liquid assimilation errors are most frequent with C1 liquid, nasalization with C1 nasal, and vowel epenthesis with C1 stop. Fourth, word frequency or familiarity showed no substantial impact on either production accuracy or error types. The findings suggest that non-native cluster production is shaped by the interaction of phonetic, phonological, and morphological factors.

Electricity Generation from Retting Wastewater Consisting of Recalcitrant Compounds Using Continuous Upflow Microbial Fuel Cell

        Jayashree C,Sweta Singh,Arulazhagan P,염익태,Iqbal M. I. I,Rajesh Banu J 2015 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.20 No.4

Recalcitrant compounds like phenol found in coconut husk retting effluent cause the deterioration of water quality when discharged from retting ponds into other water sources. Continuous upflow microbial fuel cell (MFC) was evaluated for treating retting wastewater at different loading rates to determine power generation, chemical oxygen demand (COD) consumption rate and phenol removal for a period of 270 days. A maximum power density of 254 mW/m2 was achieved during the treatment of retting wastewater (external resistance - 350Ω). COD removal of 70% was accomplished at a loading rate of 0.45 g COD/L reactor/day and phenol removal of 95% was obtained at a loading rate of 0.28 g phenol/L reactor/day. The power density exhibited an increasing pattern as the loading rate of MFC was increased from 0.45 to 2.69 g COD/L reactor/day. This study describes the treatment of retting wastewater employing continuous upflow MFC with 95% phenol removal. Therefore, MFC can be considered as an alternative for the efficient removal of phenol and current generation in retting wastewater.

      • Run Time Fault Detection System for Web Service Composition and Execution

2015 SmartCR Vol.5 No.5

Composite web services are a group of web services which together offer service functionality. Faults can occur during composition or execution of any of the services that make up the composite services. Run-time monitoring of web service execution enables real-time detection of faults concurrent with the service execution. This paper extends our previous work on fault detection of single web services to detect faults in composite web services. Fault handler has been proposed to detect faults during composition of web services for static, semi dynamic and dynamic compositions. Policies have been used to denote the intended run-time behavior of web services. Web service execution has been monitored against these policies to detect run-time faults. The proposed work has been tested using a sample web service application and the results are presented

      • Promethean Fuzzy Model to Predict Diabetic Foot Ulcer

J.Jayashree,Nikhil Chaudhari,N.Ch.S.N. 2016 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.9 No.11

One of the most serious complications of diabetes is Diabetic foot. The incidence of diabetic foot increases equally on a rise of diabetic's increases and it is often ignored by people leading to a rise in major amputations. Diabetic foot disease diagnosis is done by using fuzzy logic and beneficial as it incorporates the knowledge and experience of physician into fuzzy sets and rules. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy expert system framework for diabetic foot which constructs large scale knowledge based diabetic foot system. The knowledge is constructed by using the fuzzification. Fuzzy verdict mechanism uses triangular membership function with mamdanis inference. Defuzzification method is adopted to convert the fuzzy values into crisp values.

The diabetic foot might display numerous complexities when they are not monitored frequently. Diabetics will lead to foot ulcer which in future leads removal of foot parts. Persistent homecare observing of the diabetic foot is very important where a frameworks coordinated to a Smartphone helped Model for analysis are required by doctors to enhance early finding. This paper presents a review on diverse frameworks related to homecare based diabetic foot monitoring and procedures utilized for diagnosing diabetic's foot.

        하진영(Jin-Young Ha),Alain Biem(Alain Biem),Jayashree Subrahmonia(Jayashree Subrahmonia),박미나(Mina Park) 한국정보과학회 2001 한국정보과학회 학술발표논문집 Vol.28 No.2Ⅱ

먼저 잘 알려진 BIC(Bayesian Information Criterion)을 적용해보고, 그것을 HMM의 복잡한 구조에 적합하도록 본 논문에서 제안한 HBIC(HMM-Oriented BIC)와 비교해본다.

Pre-Clinical Evaluation of Proprietary Lutein, Zeaxanthin, and Rosemary Formulation for Its Dermal Protective Activity in Male Swiss Albino Mice

        Huijin Heo,Jayashree Madhavan,Sangwon Eun,Hyunmook Jung,Hana Lee 한국식품영양과학회 2021 Preventive Nutrition and Food Science Vol.26 No.4

This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the proprietary lutein, zeaxanthin, and rosemary formulation for its dermal protection against ultraviolet (UV) irradiated skin dehydration. A total of 48 male Swiss albino mice of 8∼12 weeks of age were divided into eight groups of 6 mice: mice in group 1 (G1) were considered the normal control, without treatment and without skin shaving; mice in G2 had their skins were shaved, but did not receive treatment; mice in G3 were the pathological control; mice in G4 were treated as standard (hyaluronic acid); mice in G5∼G8 were treated with low and high doses of 2 different test substances, respectively. Mice were anaesthetized and then depilatory was applied on the dorsal skin area (2 cm×2 cm) on alternate days, then UV/blue light irradiation was carried out for 15 min for 6 weeks. Collagen type 1 gene expression was determined via densitometric analysis, skin elasticity was assessed, and stratum corneum water contents were measured using a cutometer and corneometer. Skin hydration was assessed through transepidermal water loss, and several serum biochemical parameters (collagenase, hydroxyproline, hyaluronic acid, and ceramide levels) were determined to assess the skin moisturizing activity of the product. Images for assessing photoaging were considered between different groups on day 42. All these subjective parameters reached statistical significance (P< 0.05) in groups treated with the proprietary lutein and rosemary formulation compared with the placebo-treated group. In conclusion, the proprietary lutein, zeaxanthin, and rosemary formulation showed better protection of skin subjected to UV irradiated skin dehydration.

      • Overreaction around DJIA Milestone Events : Evidence from an Intraday Analysis

Harikumar Sankaran,Jayashree Harikumar,Violeta Diaz People&Global Business Association 2014 Global Business and Finance Review Vol.19 No.2

We extend prior research by examining investor trading in individual stocks around a market level psychological anchor. We use intraday trade and quote data to examine trading in Dow component stocks around the time DJIA first crossed a millenary milestone. Prior evidence uses monthly returns and documents momentum trading around Dow 52-week high and historical highs. In spite of nine out of eleven millenary milestones in our sample that are simultaneously a Dow 52-week high and a historical high, we find that the pattern of order imbalance, spreads, and returns around milestone crossing indicates an overreaction and not momentum trading.
