Jang, Won-Jong,Choi, Yeon-Joo,Kim, Jong-Hyun,Jung, Kwang-Don,Ryu, Ji-Sun,Lee, Seung-Hyun,Yoo, Cheon-Kwon,Paik, Hyung-Suk,Choi, Myung-Sik,Park, Kyung-Hee,Kim, Ik-Sang Center for Academic Publications Japan 2005 Microbiology and immunology Vol.49 No.1

The prevalence of spotted fever group (SFG) and typhus group (TG) rickettsioses was investigated in 3,362 sera by immunofluorescence assay. The serum samples were obtained from patients with acute febrile episodes in South Korea from December 1992 to November 1993. The number of polyvalent positive sera against SFG rickettsial agents at the level of 1: 40 dilution was 269 (8%) in Rickettsia sibirica, 482 (14.34%) in R. conorii, and 546 (16.24%) in R. akari. Many of the positive sera contained immunoglobulin (Ig) M antibodies rather than IgG antibodies. These results strongly suggest that SFG rickettsioses are prevalent in Korea. For TG rickettsial agents, the number of positive sera was 1,096 (32.60%) in R. typhi and 951 (28.29%) in R. prowazekii. Only a few epidemic typhus positive sera contained IgM antibodies. The result suggests that recent and/or primary infections of epidemic typhus were very rare in Korea during the said period. Among seven patients who had high titers (1:5,120) of IgG antibody to R. prowazekii, six were over 50 years old. The result suggests that Brill-Zinsser disease was prevalent in Korea.

Jang, Woo Young,Seo, Dong Nam,Park, Jung Gyu,Kim, Hyung Tae,Lee, Sung Min,Kim, Suk Young,Kim, Ik Jin The Korean Ceramic Society 2016 한국세라믹학회지 Vol.53 No.6
This study reports on wet-foam stability with respect to porous ceramics from a particle-stabilized colloidal suspension that is achieved through the addition of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) using a wet process. To stabilize the wet foam, an initial colloidal suspension of $Al_2O_3$ was partially hydrophobized by the surfactant propyl gallate (2 wt.%) and $SiO_2$ was added as a stabilizer. The influence of the PMMA content on the bubble size, pore size, and pore distribution in terms of the contact angle, surface tension, adsorption free energy, and Laplace pressure are described in this paper. The results show a wet-foam stability of more than 83%, which corresponds to a particle free energy of $2.7{\times}10^{-12}J$ and a pressure difference of 61.1 mPa for colloidal particles with 20 wt.% of PMMA beads. It was possible to control the uniform distribution of the open/closed pores by increasing the PMMA content and by adding thick struts, leading to the achievement of a higher-stability wet foam for use in porous ceramics.

Hypoosmotic swelling test (HOST) is used for evaluating the plasma membrane function and fertilizing ability in mammal spermatozoa. However, HOS solutions and experimental conditions have not been determined clearly for assessing canine spermatozoa. This study was conducted to examine the HOS solutions and assay conditions, including incubation time (30 to 120 min), storage temperature (4, 17 and 20℃), semen status (fresh and frozen). Maximum spermatozoal plasma membrane swelling was obtained in an 150 mOsm Na-citrate/Fructose solutions with an incubation time for 45 min. The storage temperature and semen status affected the percentage of HOS positive spermatozoa. The HOS test adapted to canine spermatozoa in this study was simple and highly consistent assay with good repeatability. The optimal condition of HOST in canine spermatozoa is an 150 mOsm Na-citrate/Fructose solutions with an incubation time for 45 min regardless of semen storage temperature and semen status.
Method for Analyzing Vibrations Due to Electromagnetic Force in Electric Motors
Ik-Sang Jang,Sang-Hwan Ham,Won-Ho Kim,Chang-Sung Jin,Su-Yeon Cho,Ki-Doek Lee,Jae-Jun Lee,Dongwoo Kang,Ju Lee IEEE 2014 IEEE transactions on magnetics Vol.50 No.2

In this paper, a method for predicting vibrations due to an electromagnetic force from among the other types of vibrations that occur in an electric motor is proposed. Among electromagnetic forces, the forces applied in the radial direction were separated into their spatial and temporal harmonic components for developing the vibration-prediction method. Each separated radial force densities acts as a vibration source and generates vibrations combined with the mechanical characteristics of the motor. The separation of vibration sources makes it possible to predict the magnitude of the vibration velocity occurring in the motor. This enables optimal motor design considering vibration. To this end, a description explaining the characteristics of electromagnetic vibrations that occur in an eight-pole nine-slot permanent magnet synchronous motor has been provided in this paper as an example. In addition, the proposed method was verified by comparing the obtained vibration velocity with that obtained through electromagnetic-vibration coupled analysis.

One objective of soybean breeders is to develop cultivars with elevated oleic acid content. Testing soybean seeds for oleic acid content is possible using gas chromatography (GC), however it is time-consuming and requires destructing the seeds. Using single seeds, we developed a near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIR) calibration equation relating oleic acid measured with GC to oleic acid predicted by NIR. The slope of the regression line of oleic acid measured with GC on oleic acid predicted by NIR and the intercept was not different from zero. A set of 300 soybean seeds was used to calculate the NIR equation and an independent set of 100 soybean seeds was used for validation. This NIRS equation showed significant correlation between reference values and NIRS estimated values based on the SEP, r2, and the RSP of reference data to SEP. This research shows that NIR prediction of oleic acid using intact soybean seeds is accurate and rapid and should be especially useful for early generation screening.
Quantifying Architectural Impact of Liquid Cooling for 3D Multi-Core Processors
Jang, Hyung-Beom,Yoon, Ik-Roh,Kim, Cheol-Hong,Shin, Seung-Won,Chung, Sung-Woo The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2012 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.12 No.3
For future multi-core processors, 3D integration is regarded as one of the most promising techniques since it improves performance and reduces power consumption by decreasing global wire length. However, 3D integration causes serious thermal problems since the closer proximity of heat generating dies makes existing thermal hotspots more severe. Conventional air cooling schemes are not enough for 3D multi-core processors due to the limit of the heat dissipation capability. Without more efficient cooling methods such as liquid cooling, the performance of 3D multi-core processors should be degraded by dynamic thermal management. In this paper, we examine the architectural impact of cooling methods on the 3D multi-core processor to find potential benefits of liquid cooling. We first investigate the thermal behavior and compare the performance of two different cooling schemes. We also evaluate the leakage power consumption and lifetime reliability depending on the temperature in the 3D multi-core processor.
