Horizontal Pullout Resistance of a Group of Two Vertical Anchors in Sand

The horizontal pullout capacity of a group of two vertical strip anchors placed along the same vertical plane in sand has been determined by using the upper bound finite elements limit analysis. The variation of the efficiency factor (ξγ) with changes in clear spacing (S) between the anchors has been established to evaluate the total group failure load for different values of (i) embedment ratio (H/B), (ii) soil internal friction angle (φ), and (iii) anchor-soil interface friction angle (δ). The total group failure load, for a given H/B, becomes always maximum corresponding to a certain optimal spacing (Sopt). The value of Sopt/B was found to lie in a range of 0.5-1.4. The maximum magnitude of ξγ increases generally with increases in H/B, φ and δ.
Seismic Performance of Footings on Stone Columns Treated Dry Sand Beds

An extensive experimental study has been carried out to study the seismic performance of footings on stone columns treated dry sand beds. Physical models have been prepared in a laminar shear box of size 1 m3 on the shaking table which has a single degree of freedom motion for representing horizontal shaking action under seismic vibrations. Effect of the configuration of stone columns, aspect ratio of footing, relative density of sand bed, frequency and peak ground acceleration (PGA) of cyclic input motion on vertical settlement of footing has been studied. Optimum length of stone columns has been found to lie between 13 − 16 times the diameter. Direction of shaking perpendicular to length of footing has been found to be more critical. Effect of aspect ratio has been found to be more pronounced at larger PGA. Influence of the frequency on response of footings has also been quantified.

Plants are an abundant source of medicinal compounds, some of which are useful in combating free radical-1002 (flavonoid-poor fraction) of Hippophae rhamnoideswere screened on the basis of their reducing power in the aqueousphase. REC-1001 was selected for further study, since it exhibited 27.38 times higher antioxidant activity than REC-1002.REC-1001 also showed significant (P. .05) membrane protection potential at 50 .g/mL, which was attributed to its abilityto scavenge peroxyl radicals (64.82. 1.25% scavenging within 1,440 min). A significant (P. .05) difference of 67.02% infree radical scavenging activity at 1,000 ng/mL between REC-1001 and vitamin E demonstrated the extract fraction’s worthc-tion. Further, REC-1001 was found to be nontoxic up to 200 mg/kg of body weight. This research suggests that the REC-1001 fraction of H. rhamnoidesextract is a safe and effective antioxidant nutraceutical product.
