        Methylation Status and Expression of E-cadherin in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomas Compared to Benign Oral Epithelial Lesions

        Expression of invasion/metastasis suppressor, E-cadherin, is reduced in many types of human carcinomas. Although somatic and germline utations in the CDH1, which encodes the human E-cadherin, have frequently been reported in cases with diffuse gastric and lobular breast ancers, irreversible genetic inactivations are rare in other human carcinomas. Recently, it has been well documented that some genes in human cancers may be inactivated by altered CpG methylation. Herein, we determined the expression and methylation status of E-cadherin in oral squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by immunohistochemistry and methylation-specific PCR. The expression of E-cadherin was significantly higher in the well-differentiated oral SCCs than the moderately or poorly differentiated ones. None of eight tested benign pithelial hyperplasias showed aberrant methylation, whereas five of 12 oral squamous cell carcinomas showed aberrant methylation. When we compared E-cadherin expression with methylation status, oral SCCs with normal methylation showed a higher expression of E-cadherin than those with methylation. These findings suggest that aberrant CpG methylation of CDH1 promoter region is closely associated with transcriptional inactivation and might be involved in tumor progression of the oral mucosa.

      • 한약재의 식중독균에 대한 항균효과

        선별된 한약재의 타 식중독에 대한 항균성을 paper disc젖으로 조사한 결과 황백, 황련, 정향 모두 시험한 대부분의 식중독균에 대해 강한 항균력을 가졌으며, 특히 가장 발생빈도가 높은 Escherichia coli와 Staphylococcus aureus 에 대해 높은 항균력을 보이는 것으로 조사되었다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때 황백, 황련 및 정향의 추출물은 식중돗균에 대해서 강한 항균력을 보이는 것으로 인정되어 식품보존제로서의 이용 가능한 것으로 확인되었다. Water extracts of medicinal plants were prepared to investigate antibacterial activity on pathogenic bacteria, Water extracts of phellodendron amurense Ruprcht, Coptis chinensis Franch. and syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. et perry were exhibited excellent growth inhibiting activities for the most of tested pathogenic bacteria. The results suggest that extracts of phellodendron amurense Ruprcht, Coptis chinensis Franch. and syzygium aromaticum (L.) Merr. et perry couid play a good role for antimimicrobial agents food.

      • 葉煙草의 混植集團에 있어서 主要形質의 生態的 變異

        In the mixture planting ratio of tobacco cultivar Y.S.A. and Hicks were investigated on the variation of the leaf characters under field condition. Planting ratio of the above two cultivar were 100 : 0, 75 : 25, 50 : 50, 25 : 75 and 0 : 100 respectively. The results were summarized as follow. 1.Even though the growth characters of Y.S.A. and Hicks were different, the responses to mixture planting ratio were almost the same. The optimum mixture planting ratio of two cultivar for leaf length and leaf width were within a range of 100 % and 25 %, 2.The order of the mixture planting ratio for increases leaf length and leaf width of two cultivar was 100%>25%>75%>50%. 3.The ratio of leaf length to leaf width increased with 75 % mixture planting ratio, but its decreased lenearly with lower leaf position. Leaf length and leaf width of leaf decreased in relation to decreasing mixture planting ratio, but increaesd below a certain of mixture planting ratio. From theses results, it was concluded that mixture planting ratio with two cultivar is not necessary for a good growth of leaf length, leaf width and leaf area of the tobacco plant.

      • 多年生 논雜草 벗풀 塊莖의 萌芽에 關한 硏究

        A study was conducted to clarify the effects of environmental factors on the emergence propagu-les in Sagittaria trifolia L. such as temperature, soil moisture, sowing depth, date of tuber collec-tion, storage and cutting conditions, and tuber dryness. The highest emergence percentage was 93% at 30℃ followed by 86% at 25℃ lower or higher temperature decreased the emergence rate. Sagittaria trifolia L. gave the highest emergence per-centage under submerged condition (3cm) . Increased sowing depth resulted in decreased rate of emergence and larger tuber showed higher emergence rate. The tuber of Sagittaria trifolia L. had dormancy until early November and was lower emergence ratio lower than 15% , however the tu-bers sampled later than December appeared to have passed dormancy breaking. Storage in sub-merged soil was observed to better than that in upland condition. The highest percentage of eme-rgence was obtained from tubers with glowing point. Drying tubers for 8-10 days reduced emer-gence ratio remarkably.

      • 中山間地(標高 250m)에서 참깨 播種適期와 晩播限界期에 關한 硏究

        In order to determinate the optimum plating time and its limitation, an eary harvest and high yeld sesame varety-Poong Nyun Ggae-was cultivated on the semi-mountainous area of 250 meter above sea level. The variety was cultivated with a single and double cropping system. The single cropping plots were covered with transparent polyethylene film on 1st , 11th and 21th in May and the double cropping plots were covered with PE film on 5th, 15th, 25th in June respectively and on 5th July. The results obtained are as follows; Yield of the plot planted on 1st May was 59kg/10a. In compaorisn with this, yields were increased 16% and 25% in plots planted on 11th and 21th May, respectively. The optimum planting time was considered near 20th May for the single cropping system and it should be considered before 15th June for the double cropping system in the semimountainous area.

      • 탈공역단백질 유전자 다형성이 비만여성의 운동 후 Leptin과 Insulin에 미치는 영향

        The objects were twenty of more than 35 years old fat women who had more than 30% body fat, and their UCP-1 (the uncoupling protein) gene and genetic polymorphism of inspected. Depending upon the existence of mutation, nine women did complex exercise 5 times a week and BO minutes a day for 12. weeks, in other words, 60~70% level of the aerobic exercise and 60% level of the weight training, to examine leptin and insulin, Hood lipid and changes of body construction. The findings were as follows: 1. The Changes of Leptin and Insulin After the 12-weeks exercise, the leptin decreased to have no significant difference (p<.05), and the insulin increased to have no significant difference(p<.01) 2. The Changes of Blood Lipid After the 12-weeks exercise, the TC decreased to have no significant difference(p>.05), and the TG increased to have no significant difference (p>.05), and the LDL-C decreased to have no significant difference (p>.05), and the HDL-C increased to have significant difference(p<.05). 3. The Changes of Body Composition After the 12-weeks exercise, the weight decreased to have no significant difference (p<.0l), and both the body fat and the BMI decreased to have significant difference(p<.01).

      • S.I. 기관 밸브시스템에서의 이상연소에 관한 실험적 연구

        The suction pressure of an abnormal condition spark ignition engine which has non adjusting intake valves becomes reduced and residual gas increases at a greater rate than under normal combustions. This reduction in suction pressure is caused by the distribution of in equalable air in a cylinder leading to abnormal combustion. If this condition continues, the engine ceases due to an increase in engine heat loss. In this study, we conducted tests to determine the combustion characteristics of a spark ignition engine under both norman and abnormal conditions. The results of this study will establish basic data analysis for developing an automotive diagnosis system by analyzing some of the factors including pressure in the cylinder, output signal of the MAP Sensor and Exhaust gases.

      • 세계산 Rumiceae Dum.족 (마디풀과)의 진화계통학적 연구

        세계산 Rumiceas Dum.족을 구성하는 4속(Rumex속의 4절, Rheum속의 3절, Oxyria속, Emex속) 분류군간의 진화적 유연관계에 대한 가설을 제공하고, 형질진화의 경향을 밝히기 위한 분자분식(cladistic analysis)을 수행하였다. 최소절약의 원리를 이용하여 24개의 두단계 혹은 다단계 형질을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 계통수의 길이는 36, 일관성지수는 0.714, 보존지수는 0.843인 4개의 등가질약 계동수가 산출되었다. Rumex속의 4개 절과 Emex속은 하나의 Clade를 구성하며, 이는 여러 개의 공유파생형질(익상수과, 오용 존서, 만곡의 배, 등)에 의해 지지된다. 결과적으로 Emex속은 Rumex속의 하나의 절(section)로 처리함이 타당하다. 또한 Oxyria속은 3개의 독립파생형질(화사수:2개, 렌즈형의 수과, 4개의 화피핀)에 의해 다른 속과 잘 구별되었다. Cladistic analysis of four genera (4 sections of the genus Rumex, 3 sections of the genus Rheum, Oxyria and Emex) of the tribe Rumiceae Dum. was undertaken to provide hypotheses about evolutionary relationships and to elucidate patterns of character evolution. A set of 24 binary and multistate morphological characters were analyzed using maximum parsimony algorithms. With the given data set. four equally parsimonious trees 36 tree length with a consistency index 0.714 and a retention index of 0.843 were produced. Four sections of Rumex and Emex came together as one clade and was strongly supported by several synapomorphies (e.g.. winged achene. trichome present. curved embryo. etc.). Thus: it is considered that Emex is better treated as one of section in Rumes. Oxyria is also well distinguished by its automorphic characters (by having 2 styles. lenticular achene. 4 perianth segment number).

      • Polyester Satin 經編布의 칫수特性에 관한 硏究

        According toa various relaxed states, the changes in dimensional properties such as course density, wale density, loop length, run-in and shrinkage of the satin warp knitted polyester fabrics were studied. The results are as follows; Behavior in dimensional properties of the satin warp knitted fabric with different loop length showed similar tendency, a fully relaxed state was reached after dry heating at 170℃ and then K₁ value was 909.98. Experimental run-in was similar to the result of Grosberg's study. Area shrinkage ratio under fully relaxed state was reached to 17%. With proceeding of relaxation, the thickness and weight per unit area were increased and the bulkiness was decreased. But the thickness and weight per unit area were decreased and the bulkiness was increased with loop length.

        Flowable 및 microfill 복합레진으로 충전된 제 5급와동에서 load cycling 전,후의 미세변연누출 비교

        Low-viscosity composite resins may produce better sealed margins than stiffer compositions (KempScholte and Davidson, 1988; Crim, 1989). Flowable composites have been recommended for use in Class V cavities but it is also controversial because of its high rates of shrinkage. On the other hand, in the study comparing elastic moduli and leakage, the microfil had the least leakage (Rundle et al. 1997). Furthermore, in the 1996 survey of the Reality Editorial Team, microfills were the clear choice for abfraction lesions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the microleakage of 6 composite resins (2 hybrids, 2 microfills, and 2 flowable composites) with and without load cycling. Notch-shaped Class V cavities were prepared on buccal surface of 180 extracted human upper premolars on cementum margin. The teeth were randomly divided into non-load cycling group (group 1) and load cycling group(group 2) of 90 teeth each. The experimental teeth of each group were randomly divided into 6 subgroups of 15 samples. All preparations were etched, and Single bond was applied. Preparations were restored with the following materials (n=15) : hybrid composite resin [Z250(3M Dental Products Inc. St.Paul, USA), Denfil(Vericom, Ahnyang, Korea)], microfil [Heliomolar RO(Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein), Micronew(Bisco Inc. Schaumburg, IL, USA)], and flowable composite[AeliteFlo(Bisco Inc. Schaumburg, IL, USA), Revolution(Kerr Corp. Orange, CA, USA)]. Teeth of group 2 were subjected to occlusal load (100N for 50,000 cycles) using chewing simulator(MTS 858 Mini Bionix Ⅱ system, MTS Systems Corp., Minn, USA). All samples were coated with nail polish 1mm short of the restoration, placed in 2% methylene blue for 24 hours, and sectioned with a diamond wheel. Enamel and dentin/cementum margins were analyzed for microleakage on a sclale of 0 (no leakage) to 3 (3/3 of wall). Results were statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis One way analysis, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Student-Newmann-Keuls method. (p=0.05) Results: 1. There was significantly less microleage in enamel margins than dentinal margins of all groups. (p<0.05) 2. There was no significant difference between six composite resin in enamel margin of group 1. 3. In dentin margin of group 1, flowable composite had more microleakage than others but not of significant differences. 4. There was no significant difference between six composite resin in enamel margin of group 2. 5. In dentin margin of group 2, the microleakage were R>A=H=M>D>Z. But there was no significant differences. 6. In enamel margins, load cycling did not affect the marginal microleakage in significant degree. 7. In dentin margins, load cycling did affect the marginal microleakage only in Revolution. (p<0.05)
