This research was carried out to find out the possibility of using Faraday's law in analyzing the electrocoagulation system. Bench-scale reactor equipped with aluminum electrode plates was operated using synthetic wastewater which received sodium chloride for conductivity adjustment. Phosphate was added to the wastewater to induce the precipitation with Al. The amount of aluminum dissolved from the electrodes could be predicted by Faraday's law with a difference less than 5%. This difference was greater at a higher electric current, probably due to the increased solution temperature. However, effect of pH on the dissolution of the aluminum was negligible. The result of this study suggested that the operating condition of electrocoagulation system could be developed using the Faraday's law when the pollutant concentration is given.
억제대 적용지침 개발을 통한 불필요한 억제대 적용율 감소활동

문제: 억제대 적용에 대한구체적 적용지침 없이 의례적으로 억제대를사용함으로 인해 환자들의 신체적 또는 정신적 안전을 위협할 수 있다. 목적: 완전 진정상태 이거나 근력이 약하여 발관능력이 없는 환자에 대한 예방적 적용, 바빠서 환자를볼수 없 는경우, 간호사본인의 판단이 없이 타인의 요구에 따르는등의 불필요한 억제대 적용이 증가하는 원인을 파악하여 중환자실의 특수성에 맞는 억제대 적용및 제거 지침을 마련하고자 한다. 의료기관: 인천광역시에 소재한 의과대학 소속병원의 집중치료실 개선효과: 억제대 적용에 대한중환자실 간호사에게 미치는 영향을 보면 태도 정도 p=0.09(p<0.1), 올바른 수행 능력은 p= 0.005 (p <0.0히로통계적으로유의한것으로 나타났다. 지식 정도 p=0.172(p<0.05) 통계적으로 유의 하지는 않지만 모든항목이 개선 활동전 에 비해 2,3차 개선 활동후에 향상한 것으로 나타났다. 개선활동전에 8.1%였던 간호 기록, 0.7%였던 간호중재, 0%였던 의사처방율이 3차 개선 활동 후 3가지 모두 100% 달성되었다. 이는 억제대 적용율 갑소 및 부적절한 억제대 적용율은 유의하게 감소하였다. 교훈: 중환자실 간호사의 억제대 적용에 대한태도, 지식, 올바른 간호 수행 능력은 지속적으로 재평가 되어지고, 교육내용은좀더 나은 간호제공을 위하여 개발 되어져야 할 것이다. 억제대 적용 기준과 제거 기준을 Check List 하여 객관성의 유지를 위한 개선 활동은계속적으로 Feedback 되어야 할 것이다.
Ex vivo Platelet Anti-aggregating Activities of 3,4-Dihydroxybenzoic Acid and It's Ethyl Ester

3, 4-Dihydroxybenzoic acid and it`s artefact ethyl ester obtained from Acanthopanax senticosus Max. were tested ex vivo and found to show mild inhibitory activities against rat platelet aggregation.
Flavonoid Components in Plants of the Genus Scutellaria

Scutellariae plants contain a large number of flavonoids and in addition, many of them are with unusual A- and/or B-ring substitutions. The total number of flavonoids reported up to the middle of 1991 are 137 including 89 of flavones, flavonols and their glycosides including 3 C-glycosides(1∼89), 39 of flavanones, dihydroflavonols and their glycosides(90∼128), 8 of chalcones(129∼136) and one biflavonoid, 8, 8-bibaicalein(137). More than half of the flavonoids are with either unusual 5-methoxy(2`methoxy in case of chalcones) in A-ring and/or 2`-oxygenation (2-oxygenation in case of chalcones) in B-ring substitutions. Four flavones, four flavanones and two chalcones are with methylation at 5-OH(2`-OH in case of chalcones) and six of them also have 2`-oxygenations(2- in case of chalcones). Sixtyeight out of total 137 flavonoids have oxygenated substitution at 2`-(2- in case of chalcones) position of B-ring and in addition, 27 of them have another oxygen function at 6`-(6- in case of chalcones) and 18 of them have additional oxygen substitutions either at 3`-, 5`-, 3`, 6`- or 3`, 4`, 5`-(3, 4, 5- in case of chalcones) positions. The distribution and isolation of flavonoid components of Scutellariae plants are tabulated with references.

Flavonoids with Bradykinin Antagonistic Effects from Scutellariae Radix

Seven flavonoid components were isolated from fr. C of Scutellariae radix which showed antagonistic effects against bradykinin(BK). The results indicated that two oxygen functions (either -OH or -OCH₃) at 2`- and 6`-positions and/or an oxygen function at 6-position of flavone seemed to be favored for the BK inhibitory activities. Skullcapflavone-II(IV) which contains 6-OCH₃, 2`-OH and 6`-OCH₃ in the structure was the most active among the tiavones tested.
Platelet Anti-Aggregating Plant Materials

The smear method developed by Velaskar and Chitre was modified to allow the screening of plant extracts and/or fractions for platelet anti-aggregating activity. The modified smear method was also found suitable for massive screening of pure compounds. Sample fractions prepared from various plant extracts were examined for their effects against ADP, arachidonic acid (AA) or collagen induced platelet aggregations. Several solvent fractions of plant extracts including water fraction prepared from the methanol extract of Acanthopanax sp. was inhibitory against rat platelet aggregations. The activity guided treatments and fractionations of the water fraction from A. senticosus Max yielded two anti-platelet aggregatory substances, 3, 4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (I) and its artefact ethyl 3, 4-dihydroxybenzoate(II). The inhibitory activities of I and II against rat platelet aggregation were compared with that of aspirin, a known inhibitor of platelet aggregation. Discussions also included the results of the investigations on the structural activity relationships among the various dihydroxybenzoic acid derivatives against platelet aggregations induced by either one of ADP, AA or collagen.
