In this research, we propose an energy-efficient predictive control system with outside-air-introduced-type air conditioner in large-scale data center. The system consists of two parts; a predictive part and a control part. We propose to use a dynamic model construction technique called just-in-time (JIT) modeling in the predictive part. It can estimate the air temperature and humidity in the DC room and temperature at the inlet of servers at a high accuracy while the update of data center model is constructed naturally. We also propose to use a control algorithm that utilizes air enthalpy at outside and DC room in addition to the air temperature and humidity in the control part. Owing to the enthalpy, we achieve an effective energy-saving with both wet and dry air. We introduced this predictive control system to a large-scale data center and had verified the improvement in the energy-saving performance for few month. The air temperature and humidity after one hour could be successfully estimated with an accuracy of correlation coefficient of 0.97 or more using the proposed JIT modeling. Furthermore, we demonstrated that the power consumption of the DC room was significantly reduced by 28.9% using the proposed control algorithm compared to that of the conventional control algorithm.
Predicting Breast Cancer Survivability: Comparison of Five Data Mining Techniques
Arihito Endo,Shibata Takeo,Hiroshi Tanaka 대한의료정보학회 2007 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.13 No.2
Objective: Today in United States, about one in eight women have been affected with breast cancer over their lifetime. Up to today, some various prediction models using SEER (Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results) datasets have been proposed in past studies. However, appropriate methods for predicting the 5 years survival rate of breast cancer have not established. In this study, we evaluate those models to predict the survival rate of breast cancer patients. Methods: Five data mining algorithms (Artificial Neural Network, Naive Bayes , Decision Trees (ID3) and Decision Trees(J48)) besides a most generally used statistical method (Logistic Regression) were used to evaluate the prediction models using a dataset (37,256 follow-up cases from 1992 to 1997). We also used 10-fold cross-validation methods to assess the unbiased estimate of the five prediction models for comparison of performance of each method. Results: The accuracy was 85.8±0.2%, 84.3±1.4%, 83.9±0.2%, 82.3±0.2%, 75.1±0.2% for the Logistic Regression, Artificial Neural, Naive Bayes, Decision Trees (ID3), Decision Trees(J48), respectively. Although the accuracy of Logistic Regression showed the highest performances, the Decision Trees (J48) was the lowest one. Conclusions: The accuracy of Logistic Regression was the best performances, on the other hand Decision Trees (J48) was the worst. Artificial Neural Network indicated relatively high performance. A cooling control method based on a model predictive control (MPC) for a modular datacenter utilizing the fresh-air is proposed. The proposed method reduces the total energy consumption of information technology (IT) equipment and cooling facilities in the data center, while considering a relationship between energy-savings and the temperature information of IT equipment. This method based on MPC controls the central processing unit (CPU) temperature in servers by facility fans for cooling. To design the proposed method, it is developed a prediction model that represents the CPU temperature by the revolution speed of facility fans, the fresh-air temperature, utilization of servers, and other factors. Furthermore, the proposed control method is applied to the actual modular data center. The energy consumption of the proposed method is compared with that of a traditional method, which has controlled the temperature difference between the inlet and outlet of the server racks based on proportional integral (PI) control. Actual comparison experiments with traditional method are provided to validate effectiveness of the proposed method. The results show that the proposed method realizes energy-savings of more than 20% compared to the traditional control method in the actual modular datacenter.
A Study on Ship’s Autopilot System for a Small Boat

This paper describes dynamics analysis of a small training boat and the application of a gain map PID controller to the autopilot of the vessel. After upgrading the autopilot of the Sazanami, an actual small training boat, in order to identify the boat model, zigzag maneuver trials were performed at various speeds. It was found that the Nomoto gain and time constant changed considerably with the vessel’s speed. Based on this analysis, an improved autopilot system that utilizes a gain map PID controller to compensate for vessel maneuverability changes was designed. From the results of various control simulations, we determined that the proposed system offered significant performance improvements over the vessel’s conventional autopilot.

The gastrointestinal motility effects of endogenous incretin hormones enhanced by dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPP-IV) inhibitors have not yet been sufficiently investigated. The aim of this study was to determine whether single pre-prandial sitagliptin, the DPP-IV inhibitor, administration might have an effect on the rate of liquid gastric emptying using the 13C-acetic acid breath test. Methods Ten healthy male volunteers participated in this randomized, two-way crossover study. The subjects fasted for overnight and were randomly assigned to receive 50 mg sitagliptin 2 hours before ingestion of the liquid test meal (200 kcal per 200 mL, containing 100 mg 13C-acetate) or the test meal alone. Under both conditions, breath samples were collected for 150 minutes following the meal. Liquid gastric emptying was estimated by the values of the following parameters: the time required for 50% emptying of the labeled meal (T1/2), the analog to the scintigraphy lag time for 10% emptying of the labeled meal (Tlag), the gastric emptying coefficient and the regression-estimated constants (β and k), calculated by using the 13CO2 breath excretion curve using the conventional formulae. The parameters between the 2 test conditions were compared statistically. Results No significant differences in the calculated parameters, including T1/2, Tlag, gastric emptying coefficient or β and k, were observed between the 2 test conditions. Conclusions The present study revealed that single-dose sitagliptin intake had no significant influence on the rate of liquid gastric emptying in asymptomatic volunteers.

<P>Functional cooperativity among transcription factors on regulatory genetic elements is pivotal for milestone decision-making in various cellular processes including mammalian development. However, their molecular interaction during the cooperative binding cannot be precisely understood due to lack of efficient tools for the analyses of protein–DNA interaction in the transcription complex. Here, we demonstrate that photoinduced excess electron transfer assay can be used for analysing cooperativity of proteins in transcription complex using cooperative binding of Pax6 to Sox2 on the regulatory DNA element (DC5 enhancer) as an example. In this assay, BrU-labelled DC5 was introduced for the efficient detection of transferred electrons from Sox2 and Pax6 to the DNA, and guanine base in the complementary strand was replaced with hypoxanthine (I) to block intra-strand electron transfer at the Sox2-binding site. By examining DNA cleavage occurred as a result of the electron transfer process, from tryptophan residues of Sox2 and Pax6 to DNA after irradiation at 280 nm, we not only confirmed their binding to DNA but also observed their increased occupancy on DC5 with respect to that of Sox2 and Pax6 alone as a result of their cooperative interaction.</P>

The neutron energy spectra of carbon, iron, and gold targets with 140 MeV protons at 180˚ were measured at the RCNP cyclotron facility using the time-of-flight technique. The results were compared with results calculated using the evaluated nuclear data file (the LA150 library) and the intranuclear cascade models (JAM and JQMD) implemented in the PHITS code. The results using LA150 and JQMD generally agreed with the experimental data except for the carbon target, but the JAM could not reproduce high-energy neutrons above .
