Critical thrust force and feed rate determination in drilling of GFRP laminate with backup plate

        Hossein Heidary,Mohammad A. Mehrpouya,Hamed Saghafi,Giangiacomo Minak 국제구조공학회 2020 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.73 No.6

Using backup plate is one of the most commonly used methods to decrease drilling-induced delamination of composite laminates. It has been shown that, the size of the delamination zone is related to the vertical element of cutting force named as thrust force. Also, direct control of thrust force is not a routine task, because, it depends on both drilling parameters and mechanical properties of the composite laminate. In this research, critical feed rate and thrust force are predicted analytically for delamination initiation in drilling of composite laminates with backup plate. Three common theories, linear elastic fracture mechanics, classical laminated plate and mechanics of oblique cutting, are used to model the problem. Based on the proposed analytical model, the effect of drill radius, chisel edge size, and backup plate size on the critical thrust force and feed rate are investigated. Experimental tests were carried out to prove analytical model.

Comparison of mean platelet volume levels in coronary artery ectasia and healthy people: systematic review and meta-analysis

        Reza Heidary Moghadam,Afshar Shahmohammadi,Nader Asgari,Koorosh Azizi,Sahar Mehr Mansour,Mohammad Roozbahani 대한혈액학회 2018 Blood Research Vol.53 No.4

Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is defined as the dilation of a segment of a coronary vessel to at least 1.5 times the diameter of its normal adjacent segment. Mean platelet volume (MPV) plays a role in acute coronary syndromes, with high MPV correlating to poor prog-nosis for acute thrombotic events and CAE. Several studies investigated the relationship between MPV and CAE, resulting in conflicting results. These results led us to systemati-cally review all studies investigating the relationship between MPV and ectatic heart dis-eases by performing a meta-analysis study in order to report a unified result. This meta-analysis study investigated all case-control articles examining the relationship be-tween MPV and CAE. All studies in the following databases published until January 31, 2018, were investigated: Science Direct, Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Following a quality control evaluation, 14 articles, all of which were published following studies performed in Turkey from 2007 to 2016, met the criteria for study inclusion. After pooling the results from all of the articles, a total standardized mean differ-ence (SMD) value of 0.584 (95% CI, 0.219, 0.95) was obtained using the D+L pooled SMD, indicating a significant difference (P=0.002) between the two groups, with higher MPV values in ectatic patients when comparing to healthy individuals. Therefore, in-creased MPV levels were significantly related to CAE, suggesting that platelets, with their inflammatory and thrombotic activities, play a role in this disease. Therefore, anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory therapies may be effective in treating CAE.

Novel ion-exchange nanocomposite membrane containing in-situ formed FeOOH nanoparticles: Synthesis, characterization and transport properties

Farhad Heidary,Ali Reza Khodabakhshi,Ali Nemati Kharat 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.4

A new type of cation-exchange nanocomposite membrane was prepared via in-situ formation of FeOOH nanoparticles in a blend containing sulfonated poly (2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) and sulfonated polyvinylchloride by a simple one-step chemical method. Prepared nanocomposite membranes were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The SEM images showed uniform dispersion of FeOOH nanoparticles throughout the polymeric matrices. The effect of additive loading on physicochemical and electrochemical properties of prepared cation-exchange nanocomposite membranes was studied. Various characterizations showed that the incorporation of different amounts of FeOOH nanoparticles into the basic membrane structure had a significant influence on the membrane performance and could improve the electrochemical properties.

Comparison of an Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Inference System and an Artificial Neural Network in the Cross-talk Correction of Simultaneous 99mTc / 201Tl SPECT Imaging Using a GATE Monte-Carlo Simulation

Saeed Heidary,Saeed Setayeshi,Mohammad Ghannadi-Maragheh 한국물리학회 2014 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.65 No.5

The aim of this study is to compare the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) andthe artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the cross-talk contamination of 99mTc / 201Tlimage acquisition in the 201Tl energy window (77 ± 15% keV). GATE (Geant4 Application inEmission and Tomography) is employed due to its ability to simulate multiple radioactive sourcesconcurrently. Two kinds of phantoms, including two digital and one physical phantom, are used. Inthe real and the simulation studies, data acquisition is carried out using eight energy windows. TheANN and the ANFIS are prepared in MATLAB, and the GATE results are used as a training dataset. Three indications are evaluated and compared. The ANFIS method yields better outcomes fortwo indications (Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient and contrast) and the two phantom resultsin each category. The maximum image biasing, which is the third indication, is found to be 6%more than that for the ANN.

Rheological Behavior of Molten Al-SiC Slurries and Comparison of Their Behavior with Metallic Slurries

        D. Sohrabi Baba Heidary,F. Akhlagh 대한금속·재료학회 2013 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.19 No.4

In this study a new precise rotational viscometer was developed and used to measure the viscosity of molten A356 alloy containing 5, 15, and 25vol.% of 90-106 μm SiC particles at 650 and 690 °C. Three types of typical curves viscosity (η) versus volume fraction of SiC particles, shear time (t), and shear rate ( )were derived advantage from the results of viscosity measurements. It would present the viscosity got lowered by decreasing particle volume fraction and by increasing the amounts of shear time and shear rate. In the next step, the influence of the number of aggregates on apparent viscosity was studied by the special tests, developed in this research. Also the formation of aggregates in Al-SiC composite slurries was explained and compared with metallic slurries. It concluded that the origin of aggregation in Al-SiC slurries was long range electrical forces while in metallic slurries it was micro welds between particles. it would show the rheological behavior of Al-SiC slurries could be justified according to the nature and the numbers of their aggregates. At the end, the implications of findings in order to predict the gradient of particles in functionally graded Al-SiC composites, produced by casting, were discussed.

A multistep methodology based on developed Takayanagi, Paul and Ouali models for tensile modulus of polymer/carbon nanotubes nanocomposites above percolation threshold assuming the contribution of interphase regions

Jamalzadeh, Navid,Heidary, Sahar,Zare, Yasser,Rhee, Kyong Yop Elsevier 2018 POLYMER TESTING -LONDON- Vol.69 No.-

Abstract

In this study, a multi-step technique is suggested to estimate the tensile modulus of polymer/carbon nanotubes (CNT) nanocomposites (PCNT) assuming the percolating effect of interphase regions. At the first step, Paul model calculates the modulus of regions containing dispersed nanoparticles and surrounding interphase. Secondly, the modulus of interphase-networked CNT is predicted by Ouali model. Finally, the developed Takayanagi model estimates the modulus of PCNT using the moduli of supposed regions. Additionally, some parameters such as the fraction of nanoparticles in the network (f) and the percolation threshold of interphase regions are formulated. The predicted modulus shows good agreement with the experimental results of samples. The thinnest and the longest CNT as well as the thickest and the strongest interphase cause the highest modulus. However, the interphase properties more significantly affect the modulus compared to material characteristics.

Highlights

A multi-step technique is suggested for tensile modulus of polymer/CNT nanocomposites.

Paul model predicts the modulus of the regions containing dispersed CNT and interphase.

Ouali model calculates the modulus of the networked CNT and surrounding interphase.

The developed Takayanagi model estimates the modulus of nanocomposite.

The predicted modulus shows fine agreement with the experimental results of some samples.

Fishery-induced Inter-annual Changes in the Mean Trophic Level, the Northern Sea of Oman off the Iranian Coast, 2002-2011

        Sakineh Mashjoor,Fatemeh Heidary Jamebozorgi,Ehsan Kamrani 한국해양과학기술원 2018 Ocean science journal Vol.53 No.4

Ecosystem-based management is one of the most important approaches that may lead to reducing the impacts of fishing on ecosystems. In this context, we have assessed the impact of Iranian coastal fishing (using landing data of 49 exploited species) on the ecosystem of the North Sea of Oman (Sistan and Baluchestan Province), during the last decade (2002-2011), with emphasis on testing the occurrence of the “fishing down? phenomenon. The Mean Trophic Level (MTL) and Fishing-in-Balance (FiB) index are two indicators that we used for analysis. The data indicated that the increased total landings in this region might be related to the exploitation of marine fishery resources especially with regard to large pelagic fish. Over the past decade, moderate decreasing trends in MTL and an increasing trend in the FiB-index were observed. In this regard, an upward trend in the spatial expansion factor and also a downward trend in the piscivory index and in Primary Production Required (PPR) in the time period could all indicate a spatial expansion toward deep waters, the catching of the large pelagic piscivorous species, such as tuna, and a sign of fishing pressures on the ecosystem. The results suggest a range of fishery exploitation patterns throughout the food web but it seems that these patterns are not a consequence of ?fishing down?. We suggest that the monitoring research be continued in this region and these indicators should be used to make fisheries management decisions and to prevent the continuance of this trend in future.

Numerical investigation of cyclic performance of frames equipped with tube-in-tube buckling restrained braces

Shahrokh Maalek,Hamid Heidary-Torkamani,Moharram Dolatshahi Pirooz,Seyed Taghi Omid Naeeini 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.30 No.3

In this research, the behavior of tube-in-tube BRBs (TiTBRBs) has been investigated. In a typical TiTBRB, the yielding core tube is located inside the outer restraining one to dissipate energy through extensive plastic deformation, while the outer restraining tube remains essentially elastic. With the aid of FE analyses, the monotonic and cyclic behavior of the proposed TiTBRBs have been studied as individual brace elements. Subsequently, a detailed finite element model of a representative single span-single story frame equipped with such a TiTBRB has been constructed and both monotonic and cyclic behavior of the proposed TiTBRBs have been explored under the application of the AISC loading protocol at the braced frame level. With the aid of backbone curves derived from the FE analyses, a simplified frame model has been developed and verified through comparison with the results of the detailed FE model. It has been shown that, the simplified model is capable of predicting closely the cyclic behavior of the TiTBRB frame and hence can be used for design purposes. Considering type of connection detail used in a frame, the TiTBRB member which behave satisfactorily at the brace element level under cyclic loading conditions, may suffer global buckling due to the flexural demand exerted from the frame to the brace member at its ends. The proposed TiTBRB suit tubular members of offshore structures and the application of such TiTBRB in a typical offshore platform has been introduced and studied in a single frame level using detailed FE model.

Antiglycation and antioxidant activity of four Iranian medical plant extracts

Safari, Mohammad Reza,Azizi, Omid,Heidary, Somayeh Sadat,Kheiripour, Nejat,Ravan, Alireza Pouyandeh KOREAN PHARMACOPUNCTURE INSTITUTE 2018 Journal of pharmacopuncture Vol.21 No.2

Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the most common metabolic disorder that defined by chronic hyperglycemia for the deficiency in insulin secretion or resistance. Hyperglycemia could induce non-enzymatic glycation of proteins. It has been suggested that some traditional plants can improve blood glucose and inhibit glycation process. This work evaluates and compares the anti-glycation activities of four Iranian plant extracts in vitro. Methods: The methanolic extract of "Fumaria officinalis, Stachys lavandulifolia, Salvia hydrangea and Rosa Damascene" was prepared in three different concentrations. Phenolic, flavonoids content and antioxidant activity were evaluated. The multistage glycation markers- fructosamines (early stage), protein carbonyls (intermediate stage) and ${\beta}$ aggregation of albumin were investigated in the bovine serum albumin (BSA)/ glucose systemt. Results: All plants showed the high potency of scavenging free radicals and glycation inhibition in the following order: Fumaria officinalis> Rosa Damascene> Stachys lavandulifolia > Salvia hydrangea. There was a significant correlation between antioxidant and anti-glycation activity. Also, the antioxidant and anti-glycation capacity of extracts correlated with total phenolic and flavonoids content. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated that the studied plants are good sources of anti-glycation and antioxidant compounds and, these properties can primarily attributable to phenolics, particularly flavonoids.
