Background: Most developing countries have been unable to implement well-organized health care systems, especially comprehensive Pap smear screening-based programs. One of the reasons for this is regional differences in medical services, and a low-cost portable cervical screening system is necessary. To improve regional discrepancies in cervical screening systems, we investigated the usefulness and acceptability of cervical selfsampling by liquid-based cytology (LBC) for 290 volunteers in the Lao PDR. Materials and Methods: Following health education with comprehensive documents, cervical self-sampling kits by LBC were distributed in three provincial, district, and village areas to a total of 290 volunteers, who were asked to take cytology samples by themselves. Subsequently, the acceptability of self-sampling was evaluated using a questionnaire. Results: The documents were well understood in all three regions. Regarding the acceptability of self-sampling, the selections for subsequent screening were 62% self-sampling, 36% gynecologist-sampling, 1% either method, and 1% other methods. The acceptability rates were higher in the district and the village than in the province. For the relationship between acceptability and pregnancy, the self-sampling selection rate was higher in the pregnancy-experienced group (75%) than in the pregnancy-inexperienced group (60%). For the relationship between selection of self-sampling and experience of screening, the self-sampling selection rate was higher in the screening-inexperienced group (62%) than in the screening-experienced group (52%). Conclusions: Our data show that this new way forward, involving a combination of self-sampling and LBC, is highly acceptable regardless of age, educational background, and residence in rural areas in a developing country.

<P>A series of waterborne polyurethane (WBPU)/multiwalled carbon nanotube (CNT) and WBPU/nitric acid treated multiwalled carbon nanotube (A-CNT) composites were prepared by in situ polymerization in an aqueous medium. The optimum nitric acid treatment time was about 0.5 h. The effects of the CNT and A-CNT contents on the dynamic mechanical thermal properties, mechanical properties, hardness, electrical conductivity, and antistatic properties of the two kinds of composites were compared. The tensile strength and modulus, the glass-transition temperatures of the soft and hard segments (T<SUB>gs</SUB> and T<SUB>gh</SUB>, respectively), and ΔT<SUB>g</SUB> (T<SUB>gh</SUB> − T<SUB>gs</SUB>) of WBPU for both composites increased with increasing CNT and A-CNT contents. However, these properties of the WBPU/A-CNT composites were higher than those of the WBPU/CNT composites with the same CNT content. The electrical conductivities of the WBPU/CNT1.5 and WBPU/A-CNT1.5 composites containing 1.5 wt % CNTs (8.0 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> and 1.1 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> S/cm) were nearly 8 and 9 orders of magnitude higher than that of WBPU (2.5 × 10<SUP>−12</SUP> S/cm), respectively. The half-life of the electrostatic charge (τ<SUB>1/2</SUB>) values of the WBPU/CNT0.1 and WBPU/A-CNT0.1 composites containing 0.1 wt % CNTs were below 10 s, and the composites had good antistatic properties. From these results, A-CNT was found to be a better reinforcer than CNT. These results suggest that WBPU/A-CNT composites prepared by in situ polymerization have high potential as new materials for waterborne coatings with good physical, antistatic, and conductive properties. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. BIM의 공정과 기성 관리 적용을 위한 CBS 수량 분개 및 코드 정립 방안

One of the crucial components in building information modeling (BIM) is data. To systematically manage these data, various research studies have focused on the creation of object breakdown structures and property sets. Specifically, crucial data for managing programs and payments involves work breakdown structures (WBSs) and cost breakdown structures (CBSs), which are indispensable for mapping BIM objects. Achieving this requires disassembling CBS quantities based on 3D objects and WBS. However, this task is highly tedious owing to the large volume of CBS and divergent coding practices employed by different organizations. Manual processes, such as those based on Excel, become nearly impossible for such extensive tasks. In response to the challenge of computing quantities that are difficult to derive from BIM objects, this study presents methods for disassembling length-based quantities, incorporating significant portions of the bill of quantities (BOQs). The proposed approach recommends suitable CBS by leveraging the accumulated history of WBS-CBS mapping databases. Additionally, it establishes a unified CBS code, facilitating the effective operation of CBS databases. BIM에서 가장 중요한 요소 중의 하나가 디지털 데이터이다. 체계적인 디지털 데이터 관리를 위해 최근까지 연구를 통해 객체분류체계(OBS)와 속성분류체계(Pset)가 제시되어 왔다. 특히 공정 및 기성 관리에 사용되는 디지털 데이터는 WBS와 CBS로 나뉘고 이를 BIM 객체와 매핑하려면 CBS의 수량 분개가 필요한데 CBS는 양이 매우 방대하고 공종이나 규격, 명칭 및 CBS 코드가 발주처마다 상이하여 WBS나 BIM 모델에 맞는 수량 분개 작업을 엑셀 등을 이용해서 수작업으로 한다는 것은 사실상 어렵다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해 BIM 모델에 의해 산출하기 힘든 수량 중에서 대부분을 차지하는 연장에 근거한 수량의 전체분을 분개하는 방안, 축적된 WBS-CBS 이력으로부터 최적 CBS를 도출하는 방안과 합리적인 CBS 데이터베이스 구축을 위해 필수적인 CBS 코드 통합 표준화 방안을 제시하였다.
Recovery From Vegetative State to Minimally Conscious State: A Case Report

ABSTRACT: In this study, we attempted to demonstrate the change of the ascending reticular activating system (ARAS) concurrent with the recovery from a vegetative state (VS) to a minimally conscious state (MCS) in a patient with brain injury. A 54-year-old male patient had suffered from head trauma and underwent cardiopulmonary resuscitation immediately after head trauma. At 10 months after onset, the patient exhibited impaired consciousness, with a Coma Recovery Scale-Revised (CRS-R) score of 7 (auditory function: 1, visual function: 2, motor function: 1, verbal function: 1, communication: 0, and arousal: 2) and underwent the ventriculoperitoneal shunt operation for hydrocephalus. After the operation, he began comprehensive rehabilitative therapy. At post-op 2 and 8 weeks, his CRS-R score had recovered to 15 (3/3/4/1/1/3) and 17 (3/3/4/2/2/3), respectively. In terms of configuration on diffusion tensor tractography (DTT), there was no significant change in the lower portion of the ARAS. Regarding the change of neural connectivity of the thalamic intralaminar nucleus, increased neural connectivities to the hypothalamus, basal forebrain, prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, and parietal cortex were observed in both hemispheres on post-op DTTs compared with pre-op DTT. We report on a patient with brain injury who showed change of the ARAS concurrent with the recovery from a VS and a MCS.
Optimization Model on the World Wide Web Organization with respect to Content Centric Measures

The structure of a Web site can prevent the search robots or crawling agents from confusion in the midst of huge forest of the Web pages. We formalize the view on the World Wide Web and generalize it as a hierarchy of Web objects such as the Web as a set of Web sites, and a Web site as a directed graph with Web nodes and Web edges. Our approach results in the optimal hierarchical structure that can maximize the weight, tf-idf (term frequency and inverse document frequency), that is one of the most widely accepted content centric measures in th information retrieval community, so that the measure can be used to embody the semantics of search query. The experimental results represent that the optimization model is an effective alternative in the dynamically changing Web environment by replacing conventional heuristic approaches.
