        Severe Adverse Events of Periocular Acupuncture: A Review of Cases

        Acupuncture is recognized as a component of alternative medicine and is increasingly used worldwide. Many studies have shown the various effects of acupuncture around the eyes for ophthalmologic or nonophthalmologic conditions. For ophthalmologic conditions, the effect of acupuncture on dry eye syndrome, glaucoma, myopia, amblyopia, ophthalmoplegia, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, blepharospasm, and blepharoptosis has been reported. Recently, several studies on dry eye syndrome have been reported and are in the spotlight. However, given the variety of study designs and reported outcomes of periocular acupuncture, research is still inconclusive, and further studies are required. In addition, although a systematic and reliable safety assessment is required, to the best of our knowledge, there have been no reports of a literature review of ocular complications resulting from periocular acupuncture. This review collected cases of ocular injury as severe adverse events from previously published case reports of periocular acupuncture. A total of 14 case reports (15 eyes of 14 patients) of adverse events published between 1982 and 2020 were identified. This review article provides a summary of the reported cases and suggestions for the prevention and management of better visual function prognosis.

      • The Most Massive Active Galactic Nuclei at 1 ≲<i>z</i>≲ 2

        <P>We obtained near-infrared spectra of 26 Sloan Digital Sky Survey quasars at 0.7 < z < 2.5 with reported rest-frame ultraviolet M-BH similar to 10(10) M-circle dot to critically examine the systematic effects involved with their mass estimations. We find that active galactic nuclei (AGNs) heavier than 10(10) M-circle dot often display double-peaked H alpha emission, extremely broad Fe II complex emission around Mg II, and highly blueshifted and broadened C IV emission. The weight of this evidence, combined with previous studies, cautions against the use of M-BH values based on any emission line with a width over 8000 km s(-1). Also, the M-BH estimations are not positively biased by the presence of ionized narrow line outflows, anisotropic radiation, or the use of line FWHM instead of sigma for our sample, and unbiased with variability, scatter in broad line equivalent width, or obscuration for general type-1 quasars. Removing the systematically uncertain M-BH values, similar to 10(10) M-circle dot black holes (BHs) in 1 less than or similar to z less than or similar to 2 Ns can still be explained by anisotropic motion of the broad line region from similar to 10(9.5) M-circle dot BHs, although current observations support that they are intrinsically most massive, and overmassive to the host's bulge mass.</P>

        Investment Financing of Organizational Capital

        We identify that the cost of external capital and the frontier technology (FT) shock level are two important factors affecting external capital supply. We explore how they interact to affect the investment financing of organizational capital (OC). We show that the FT shock level has experienced a dramatic change from being counter-cyclical before 1991 to pro-cyclical after 1991. This structural break alters the OC investment sensitivities during the two sub-periods. We find that the OC investment-cash flow sensitivity is low and the OC investment-q sensi- tivity is high only when the cost of external capital is low and the FT shock level is simulta- neously high. These patterns are mainly driven by financially constrained firms. In addition, our empirical findings suggest that OC investments made during recessions when the FT shock level is also low generate higher productivity than in other conditions.

        Effects of Milling and Hydriding-Dehydriding Cycling on the Hydriding-Storage Behaviors of a Magnesium-Nickel-Tantalum Fluoride Alloy

        In this study, Ni and TaF5 were picked as additives to enhance the hydriding and dehydriding rates of Mg. A sample with a composition of 80 wt% Mg+14 wt% Ni+6 wt% TaF5 (named Mg-14Ni-6TaF5) was prepared by reactive mechanical grinding. Its hydriding and dehydriding properties were then examined and the effects of milling and hydriding-dehydriding cycling were investigated. To activate the prepared sample, two hydriding-dehydriding cycles were required at 573 K and 593 K. At the second cycle, the sample absorbed 5.74 wt% H for 60 min under 12 bar H2 at 573 K. At 623 K, the activated Mg-14Ni-6TaF5 absorbed 2.53 wt% H for 2.5 min, 4.20 wt% H for 10 min, and 5.31wt% H for 60 min under 12 bar H2, and desorbed 2.01 wt% H for 2.5 min, 4.76 wt% H for 15 min, and 4.83 wt% H for 60 min under 1.0 bar H2. The initial hydriding rate increased as the temperature increased from 423 K to 573 K (due to the predominance of the acceleration of the thermally activated process) and then decreased from 573 K to 623 K due to the predominance of the decrease in the driving force for the hydriding reactionunder 12 bar H2.

        30 Gbps High-Speed Characterization and Channel Performance of Coaxial Through Silicon Via

        <P>Coaxial through silicon via (TSV) technique allows reduction of high frequency loss due to conductivity in silicon substrate and flexibility in impedance by controlling the ratio of shield to center radii. For the first time, we measured and analyzed the high-speed channel performance of coaxial TSV. This letter presents the measurement results of the fabricated test vehicle in S-parameter and eye-diagram. The eye-diagram measurement results prove that coaxial TSV is capable of supporting signal transmission up to bit rate of 30 Gbps. The equivalent circuit model is suggested and experimentally verified by S-parameter comparison. Furthermore, the superiority of coaxial TSV over conventional TSV is confirmed by comparison of S-parameter results from equivalent circuit model simulation.</P>

      • 구조해석을 통한 축산 사료용 부산물 발효 저장탱크 스위프오거의 안전성 평가

        가축의 영양소 요구량 유지, 비육, 증체, 생산, 번식, 계절환경에 따라 달라지는 변동요인을 감안하여 하루 동안에 필요로 하는 영양소 요구량을 충족하도록 여러 종류의 사료를 혼합한 TMR(Total Mixed Ration)사료의 중요성이 커지고 있다. 이에 가축의 생산성 향상(등급 향상)과 축산농가의 영농비용 절감, 생력화를 위해 범용적으로 사용가능한 TMR플랜트의 개발이 반드시 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 사료비절감을 위한 식품부산물 발효탱크의 개발을 통해 발효탱크 밑 부분을 구성하고 있는 스위프오거와 이를 고정하면서 Z축으로 회전하는 고정부를 대상으로 하여 시각화 할 수 있는 FEM 시뮬레이션 기법을 이용하여 작업 중 적용되는 하중에 대해 충분한 구조 안전성을 가지고 있는지 해석하였다. 스위프오거의 재질은 SM45C, 작용하는 하중은 감속기의 출력량, RPM을 이용하여 토크 값을 구하고 조사료와 부산물사료가 포함된 TMR사료의 무게와 스위프오거의 단면적을 이용하여 압력 값을 도출하였다. 하지만 부산물사료가 발효되면서 저장탱크를 통해 배출되기 때문에 전체 사료 무게가 줄어 스위프오거에 작용하는 압력 또한 작아지는 것을 확인하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 저장탱크에서 TMR사료가 배출되기 직전의 가장 높은 압력 상태를 가정하였다. 이 가정을 통해 토크 값은 1.4 N · m, 압력 값은 43 Mpa으로 나타났고 이를 바탕으로 구조해석을 진행하였다. 그 결과 스위프오거는 고정단 부근에서 최대 폰 미세스 응력 310 Mpa이 발생하여 구조적으로 가장 취약한 것으로 나타났다. 하지만 이는 SM45C의 항복강도인 343 Mpa 보다 낮아 안전한 것으로 분석된다. 또한 사료가 배출되면서 스위프오거에 작용하는 압력이 작아져 폰 미세스 응력도 작아지는 것으로 나타났다.

        Condom and oral contraceptive use and risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia in Australian women

        Objective: To assess the association between condom use and oral contraceptive consumption and the risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Perth clinics. A total of 348 women responded to the structured questionnaire. Information sought included demographic and lifestyle characteristics such as the use of condom for contraception, consumption of oral contraceptive, and duration of oral contraceptive usage. Crude and adjusted odds ratio (OR) and associated 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated using unconditional logistic regression models and reported as estimates of the relative risk. Results: The prevalence of CIN was found to be 15.8%. The duration of oral contraceptive consumption among women with abnormal Papanicolaou (Pap) smear result indicating CIN was significantly shorter than those without abnormal Pap smear result (mean±SD, 5.6±5.2 years vs. 8.2±7.6 years; p=0.002). Comparing to ≤3 years usage, prolonged consumption of oral contraceptive for ≥10 years reduced the risk of CIN (p=0.012). However, use of condom for contraception might not be associated with a reduced risk of CIN after accounting for the effects of confounding factors (adjusted OR, 0.52; 95% CI, 0.05 to 5.11; p=0.577). Conclusion: Use of oral contraceptives, but not condoms, for contraception appeared to be inversely associated with CIN. Prolonged use of oral contraceptive demonstrated its benefits of reducing the risk of CIN.

        쥐의 척수손상 후 사이토카인 발현 연구를 통한 세포 사멸을 조절하는 길항제의 연구

        목적: 쥐의 척수 손상 후 발현되는 사이토카인을 분석하여 세포 사멸을 조절하는 길항제에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 평균 16주 된 Sprague-Dawley rat, 암컷 60마리를 사용하였으며, 9번 흉추에서 추궁절제 후 신경 손상을 유도한 후 생리식염수를 투여한 대조군 및 aminoguanidine을 투여한 Ⅰ군, GM-CSF를 투여한 Ⅱ군, riluzole을 투여한 Ⅲ군, erythropoietin을 투여한 Ⅳ군, 그리고 methylprednisolone을 투여한 Ⅴ군으로 분류하였다. 운동 측정은 Tarlov 점수를 이용하였고, 술 후 1일, 3일, 5일, 그리고 7일에 각각 쥐를 희생시켜 척수 공동의 크기, e-NOS에 대한 면역조직화학염색 및 XIAP에 대한 RT-PCR을 실시하였다. 결과: 운동 회복 및 척수 공동 증가 억제는 Ⅴ, Ⅰ, Ⅲ군에서 다른 군에 비해 유의한 결과를 보였다(p<0.05). e-NOS 활성도의 발현은 Ⅰ과 Ⅴ, Ⅲ군에서 저명하였으나, 나머지 군에서는 e-NOS 활성도의 발현은 거의 없었다. RT-PCR상 XIAP의 발현은 시간의 경과에 따라 Ⅴ, Ⅰ, Ⅲ군에서 다른 군에 비해 강한 발현을 보였다. 결론: 척수 손상 후 초기에 세포 사멸을 조절하는 인자로 steroid, NOS 억제제, Na 통로 억제제 등이 중요할 것으로 사료되며, 추후 연구는 이들 약물들이 synergic effect를 일으킬 수 있는 약물의 개발에 중점을 두고자 한다. Purpose: To analyze the cytokines that appear after a spinal cord injury in rats and to determine the agonists that regulate apoptosis. Materials and Methods: Sixty female Sprague-Dawley rats were anesthetized, and a laminectomy was performed at the 9th thoracic vertebra. The spinal cord injury was induced by dropping a 10 gm weight at a height of 20 ㎜. The subjects were divided into 5 groups. Group Ⅰ was administered aminoguanidine, group Ⅱ was administered GM-CSF, group Ⅲ was administered riluzole, group Ⅳ was administered erythropoietin, and group Ⅴ was administered methylprednisolone. A control group was administered normal saline. The results were assessed using the Tarlov motor grading method. In 1, 3, 5 and 7 days after the spinal cord injury, the rats were sacrificed and evaluated using the syringomyelic cavity size. Immunohistochemical staining for e-NOS and RT-PCR for XIAP were also performed. Results: Groups Ⅰ, Ⅲ, and Ⅴ showed significantly different results in terms of the motor recovery and inhibition of increase in the syringomyelic cavity compared with the other groups (p 〈 0.05). The e-NOS activity was observed in groups Ⅰ, Ⅲ, and Ⅴ. The other groups showed almost no e-NOS activity. On the RT-PCR, groups Ⅰ, Ⅲ, and Ⅴ showed significantly different results in terms of XIAP expression with time compared with the other groups. Conclusion: Steroids, NOS inhibitors and sodium channel inhibitors appear to be important factors for regulating apoptosis in the early stage of a spinal cord injury. Further study will be needed to develop new pharmaceuticals with synergic effects on spinal cord injuries.
